I lived in Boston in the '70's. At the time that historic city was torn by racial strife as people were struggling with school bussing as a solution for achieving de-facto integration. During that time Born To Run was released. Art doesn't seem to get much credit from newsmakers, reporters and politicians, but it seems to me that Clarence and his saxophone woke up a lot of hearts, and did as much, as anyone to promote true harmony. Brilliant. Thank you, Clarence. What is remembered lives.
when clarence got to heaven at the pearly gates st peter said "i've just got to let the boss know your here so you can come on in" and clarence replied my god don't tell me bruce is dead!"
@dukestreetking75 i agree with @mspsycho29, this is just Bruce showing his respect to the big man. you can see Clarence is nearly crying with emotion, & that made me nearly cry too, (although being a bloke, i wouldn't actually admit that to anyone in real life).
@dukestreetking75 Re: MsPsycho29: I had to laugh when I read the word "insincere"... There's nothing insincere about Bruce, and anyone who knows anything, would know that. Sorry MsPsycho, but your name fits your comment!
@sudosurfer - I agree with you one hundred percent. Your comment is what the majority know to be true. As you saw, I don't delete comments and your response to her was the reason why.
Thanks for taking the time to publicly "correct" her.
@MsPsycho29 springsteen's whole thing is his "sincerity" which would ring true if he didn't repeat it word for word every night changing only the name of the city, might go down great with american fans but you'd think he'd makes his adlibs a wee bit spontanious sometimes ? BUT, when it comes to bandmembers & the big man in particular ? then it was sincere, you can't work with someone for 35 years & not love them like a brother, i'll miss Clarence at IOW 2012 won't be the same. RIP
The Born to Run album cover said it all about the relationship between these two.................Bruce holding his guitar and leaning on the Big Man while he's blowing his sax. These two guys were true blood brothers who fed off of each other..................R.I.P., Big Man, stay strong, Boss.
@violaquarius E street is not a place, not in the tangible sense. Its a place in which all Springsteen fans can reside, young and old, here or on the other side. So really, the big man didn't leave E street, he just moved to the top of the block, where he can look down on all of us, smile, and play that sweet music. R.I.P The big man Clarence Clemons.
2 years ago my parents and I saw Springsteen in Jersey and they were having a book signing with Clarence for his new book. It was free. We didn't go. My mom had "work" or something to do. She was crying when she found out he died and kept going on about how she'll always regret it.
Hopefully big man can finally rest in peace and not deal with the chronic pain anymore... But rock music has definitely lost one of its top 2 sax players... Him and Alto Reed and right up there at the top....
Very very sad. We first saw them in 1975. My mate Steve Yates had heard of this band and we went to London to see them at the then Hammersmith Odeon on Monday 24th November 75. The band were fantastic with the Big Man's sax towering above it all. As we left, I quickly got a poster. I still have it. Tickets were £2.20, £1.65 and £1.10. A fantastic night. Clarence's sound will be around forever, to be transferred onto any future recording format. His sax will never fade away
Simply a great man, huge talent, a great loss! The flags in New Jersey will be raised at half-staff tomorrow, June 23rd in memory and honor of Clarence.
RIP clarence, you were the greatest. I was given the greatest honor of seeing Bruce and the Band live in 2008, and always wished i could see it again. it will never be the same. There are tears on e street...
A long, long time ago... I can still remember How that music used to make me smile. And I knew if I had my chance That I could make those people dance And, maybe, they’d be happy for a while. But february made me shiver With every paper I’d deliver. Bad news on the doorstep; I couldn’t take one more step. I can’t remember if I cried When I read about his widowed bride, But something touched me deep inside The day the music died. for the" Big Man" Clarence Clemons
so sad...just heard the news..the E-street band will never be the same again..can't believe he's gone...he was a part of Springsteen and therefore a part of me..rest in peace Clarence...such a big loss for everyone involved...still can't believe it..
@BananaSeppia - Here is what Bruce is saying as he introduces Clarence:
And last but not least, I want to say London is finally ready for - the Minister of Soul, Secretary of the Brotherhood, probably the next King of England ... Man this was a great musician and a great man. May your memory live on through the music that you left in our hearts over all the years. Praying for ur family..
RIP Big Man. Music lovers will miss your presence. You were a truly gifted artist. Keep playing your sweet sax in Heaven! We will miss you. You're A Friend Of Mine!!

Rest in Peace Clarence Clemons 'The Big Man'... E Street will not be the same without you. 'You're a Friend of Mine' with Jackson Browne is still one of my faves. Peace brother.
Today is truly a sad day and a part of my musical heart is gone now so to the man who was always last but never least....the minister of soul...the secretary of the brotherhood...the one, the only...THE BIG MAN Clarence Clemons...rest in peace...I'm 100% sure that he'll be shaking the heavens and jamming with the other Big Man in the sky :) ♥
The world has lost another truly gifted artist. I feel fortunate that I was able to see Springsteen & Clemons in concert together 3 times. RIP Clarence Clemons thanks for everything!
Saw this tour in Miami and I will never forget this. The Big Man will never be forgotten. He was other reason besides Bruce that I wanted to see the show. Wish it hadn't taken 9/11 to reunite the band, but I'm glad I got to see them again, even if it was just once more.
Loved the style, the humour and the goosebumps when Clarence blew his horn and we're lucky to have so many wonderful performances of his to celebrate while we mourn his passing. Gimme a C
I saw them in Atlanta during that tour I do believe. I remember Bruce's intro for Clarence ended with something like "You wish you can be like him but you cannot . . ."
RIP Big Man. Thank you for being part of the soundtrack of my life. You will be missed. I'm so grateful I was lucky enough to see Bruce and the ESB live many, many times and experience the awesomeness that was Clarence and Bruce.
The music world lost a great man and sax player. The music world won't be the same without the big man. Forever and always in our hearts. You are the music that lights up the heavens.
@lastdaysguitar It's sad, I didn't know he was that sick, I honestly thought he would be back on stage soon. I've seen Bruce and the E Street Band, people were screaming for the Big Man- he gave that music it's soul :(
@Poochalot Soul indeed - Clarance was a man of faith and he often talked in interviews about how he prays to Jesus Christ every night before he went onstage asking that his music would help somebody, and it sure did.
never herd im swear lol

The world has lost another truly gifted artist. I feel fortunate that I was able to see Springsteen & Clemons in concert together 3 times. RIP Clarence Clemons thanks for everything!

He's up there with Danny Federici... and you know they're playing in the choir. Rest in Peace, Big Man.

I remember Bruce's intro for Clarence ended with something like "You wish you can be like him but you cannot . . ."
And I thought, yeah that's about right.
RIP Big Man. Here's to you.

RIP Big Man. Thank you for being part of the soundtrack of my life. You will be missed. I'm so grateful I was lucky enough to see Bruce and the ESB live many, many times and experience the awesomeness that was Clarence and Bruce.

@lastdaysguitar It's sad, I didn't know he was that sick, I honestly thought he would be back on stage soon. I've seen Bruce and the E Street Band, people were screaming for the Big Man- he gave that music it's soul :(
Poochalot 7 months ago
@Poochalot Soul indeed - Clarance was a man of faith and he often talked in interviews about how he prays to Jesus Christ every night before he went onstage asking that his music would help somebody, and it sure did.
