  • what song are they going into when the video cuts out?

  • @oldsoul247

Set 1: Improv > Lonely Avenue > The Lover > Brigas Nunca Mais > New Planet > The Letter; Set 2: Improv > Worms > Bass Solo > Queen Bee

  • perfect ....

  • I'm pretty sure you're referring to Billy Martin's Pandeiro (Brazilian tamborine with a skin on). Highly recommended instrument for groove playing

  • Ne csinálja...

    307

  • Eargasm.

  • Ladies and Gentlemen...

Here...you´ll see...a bunch of amazing musicians playing and enyoing music like children! What a joy to my ears

  • Cool---I've always loved this song---first I ever heard by them back in 1995---finally got the CD the other day just before I left a record store---the funny thing is, I wasn't even looking for it, and spotted it by accident while bending down to get a stool! Their sound,to me, has always been reminescent of the famous 1960's organ jazz player Jimmy Smith, whom I grew up listening to courtesy of my aunt. Saw them live at the Ford Jazz Festival in Detroit 2 years ago---they didn't play this tune.

  • they so obviously enjoy what they do,,,,hard for me, not to LOVE it toooooo

  • i have utter respect for medeski's achievement of playing exactly what he wants but always wonder if he's addicted to distortion the way i am, say, to bread

  • john's dirty rough aggressive hammond timbre perfectly fits with his unique style and whole band groove.

    beautyfull!!!!!!

  • 2:22 - 2:26 hahaha I love you Billy Martin.

  • I saw them back in 2002, and the were intastella!!! they did a version of FIRE by Jimi Hendrix , that i only recognised 10 mins into the tune....and im a big Hendrix fan!!! love MM + W

  • they're playing their socks...!!

    fucking awsome!!!!!

  • Hey, is this from a dvd and, if so, whwere can i find it? The video/audio recording is excellent and mmw is best live. thx

  • Jazz is not dead it just smells a little bit funny funny. f.zappa

  • Billy seems sloppy here, go back and listen to the record - his playing is about 10x better.. this needs a more machine precision, imo.. the beat is relentless on the album..

  • the gear doesnt matter so much on the drums but for the key board player it does

  • greatest trio of all time

  • 6:00 to 6:22...that dreamy part on the hammond is so Sweet...stroking the beast gently...awesome

  • 6:00 to 6:12...that dreamy part on the hammond is so Sweet...stroking the beast gently...awesome

  • que sonzêra, locoooo!!

    ...

great sound, these guys make seems easy to play it

  • I love seeing billy's cymbal at 2:40 It is very delightful.

  • @loshmebree and @catphish454

definite negative, ghostrider. this is the lover.

  • is it normal to pop a boner after hearing this beauty? is there a doctor in the crowd?

  • GREAT video, but isn't this "Is there anybody here that loves my Jesus"? Listen to the bassline, you could recognize it easely (or is it just me? XD)

  • @LoshMeeBre yup...good call sir..

  • @LoshMeeBre no, that's the lover

  • I would give up anything I had to play the drums like Billy Martin!

  • i just cummed in my pants after watching this

  • Really the best ambassadors for America. Really. How can people hate us when we've got music like this? Also ambassadors for New York, dammit.

  • Billy with the flawless machine like groove AND the squeeze birds at the end FTW!

  • If there is a nationally known band with a better rhythm section, I really want to know about it...until that day happens, I declare Wood and Martin the best bass/drummer combo going in 2010.

  • I will watch your show on thursday. Good luck !!!!! Chicao xx

  • tahnk you MMW!!!!!!

    Fernando Cifrodelli

  • Billy has a huge grin the whole time...classic. And Chris always looks like he's having tantric sex with his bass.

  • haha true

  • that is hot.

  • they kill it....i agree martin is sick as fack

  • hese boys are fuckin insane best ever

  • i love the cracked cymbal.

  • I saw them a few nights ago. I literally could not believe my ears. It was so amazingly good. I think Billy Martin is probably the most talented drummer I've ever seen live. He played a four piece kit, and ONE cymbal, which was so refreshing. He also broke out a tamborine, and absolutely killed on it. I've never heard anyone play a tamborine like that!

  • i know what you're talking about on the tambourine. i saw them live in september and my jaw dropped when he went to the tambourine when they played "amber gris".

  • @greenfruitface lol he does rage the tambourine

  • @greenfruitface Check out the youtube video of them called "secret session." Billy plays a tambourine and fucking wrecks with it. He's amazing

  • possibly one of the funkiest songs ever to be performed.

  • Oh, Man.

  • Anybody know any other jambands with this style? I really like this music...

  • MMW have their own sound, but these bands are kinda funky jazz too: Robert Walter's Super Heavy Organ, John Scofield, Charlie Hunter, ULU, The Bad Plus, Garaj Mahal (and The Fareed Haque Group. Theres a lot more hit me up and I'll drop some more names, I just hate typing

  • my band future dog is heavily inspired by these guys, similar grooves and instrumentation, but a bit more electronics. check out the vids on my channel!

  • dropper

  • MMW are unique, but try: Garage a Trois Emphasizer + Outre Mer Soulive Turn it out Robert Walter Super Heavy Organ Stanton Moore III + Emphasis! (On Parenthesis) Zony Mash Brand Spankin New + Live in Seattle Galactic Coolin Off + Crazy Mongoose Skeriks Syncopated Taint Septet Husky Will Bernard Blue Plate Special + Party Hats Orgone Killion Floor The Bad Plus The Bad Plus T.J. • well warning: its dangerously funky at 6:48

  • another warning: its dangerously funky at 0:00 to 8:33

    ;)

  • My favorite part has always been the breakdown @ 3:30. Guess I'm a sucker for the minor 6th.

  • that is some tight sh-t son!

  • Where this leaves off , "New Planet" takes off:

    See the vid:

Medeski Martin & Wood New Planet

    Same show....?

  • Warning: It gets dangerously funky at 0:26

  • Thanks for the hint, uh, warning :)

  • este tema me pone como loco!!!

  • 4:50-4:53. i love that drum fill. it lines up with the off beat that the organ does.

  • I rewound it just to listen to that part. Sweetness. It's almost like they know what they're doing huh?

  • lol too much ride cymbal my ass, I'd like to see you guys roll with Billy

  • My this is one of my favorite tunes they do as far as the bass goes, bummer you can't hear it

  • i dunno i can hear it.

  • my drum inspiration

  • vamos carajooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • fuck!

  • Bass needs to be much louder!

  • yes indeed - a bass player myself, I wanna hear that offbeat thump.

  • im posting my new pics

  • I just noticed the ride cymbal is split wide open.

  • I'm no drummer but maybe thats part of that chanky drum sound he likes so much

  • less sustain on the cymbal

  • cavemans got his native groove on jajaja nah jk hes awsome very creative unique style.

  • the finest jams around = MMW & MSMW

  • Billy Martin - 6:48 :-) just amazing

  • Ri-goddamn-diculous.

  • That groove in the beginning was so tight.

  • Oh my god yes, right when billy kicks into that groove, phenomenal. And the grinding organ from medeski is so sick.

  • gotta love martin's intro...too bad wood is so silent :/

  • I dare someone to find something that grooves harder than this.

  • Who knew that the one of the Geico Cavemen could play drums?

  • thats so terrible...billy is the man. i can see how one might think that, but i don't like it

  • Oh, I completely agree... Billy is the freakin' amazing! But in this video (and a few others where he has his facial hair like this) he looks like one of the cavemen to me.

  • That's so funny!! I was holding my side when i read your comment. You're gonna get a lot of flack for that.

  • more bass

  • see kids, it's not about the gear, it's what you can do with it.

  • well said

  • @Oladipo5 Yeah but the whole band has sick gear anyway...

  • @Oladipo5 I'd hate to see your idea of "gear"

  • @Oladipo5 LOL, your words are so comforting....

  • @Oladipo5 agree all the way! I may have to quote that :)

  • @Oladipo5 they roll around with top notch gear.

  • my friends that is the tightest beat ive ever heard

  • billy's facial expressions are almost as badass as his grooves

  • no doubt

  • can't feel the bass aye? you're supposed to feel it!

just playin man, i don't think there would be anything wrong with turning him up a bit.

  • awesome. and i agree, bring up that bass!

  • this would be perfect if the bass was a little louder. his lines are great

  • Ciao dall'Italia! Ho trovato questo video molto interessante! Io faccio il compositore ed autore musicale e questa musica mi ha fascinato! Complimenti!

  • This is sweet but it sucks that the bass is so hard to hear.

  • three people one soul.

  • ...those guys are the best!!!

  • of all the jam bands, these are the only ones that keep me coming back. It's fun to watch Chris try to keep pulling John and Billy down to earth.

  • I love these great sounds man! I saw these guys live once, tis was beautiful!

  • fuuuuuunkyy!!!!

  • I think it's very fitting that he's using a cracked cymbal.

  • is this song from "Friday Afternoon in the Universe"?

  • yeah. first track

  • amazing band. just amazing

no one grooves like billy martin

  • I agree Medeski's a absolute prodigy when it comes to those keys.

  • i think john medeski is a genius.

his IQ must be over 200

  • What's great about these videos is that you get to see up close the way these fab musicians play... exceptional ! I just wish they'd come to Paris more often...

  • my favorite mmw song..

  • Friday Afteroon in the Universe

  • Phonaminal intro, great song, Martin needs a medal for his perfection!

  • Love the MMW, MArtin is one of my favorite drummers of all time.
