  • Man, did she know how and when to flatten a note...

  • @ChristophePhilippe Mildred Bailey was discovered by Bing Crosby and also a protege by Bing Crosby ... that says enough to me! Grtz, Aad

  • @aadjuijn I think it was the other way around. Mildred Bailey is the sister of one of the Rhythm Boys, a group of three young men in the early 1930's with Bing Crosby on the lead. They all came from the state of Washington and Mildred got them some connections when they came down to Los Angeles to seek their fortune.

  • @jerseyoutcast You`re right!. In 1929, Al Rinker was able to return all the favors by helping out his sister when she threw a house party. He invited his boss, and when Whiteman heard Bailey sing a song he hired her on the spot. And with that hiring, Whiteman became the first national-level orchestra leader to feature a female vocalist -- a historic moment that soon caused “other dance bands in the copycat fashion of show business” to add “female singers too.” Grtz, Aad
