I'm baffled there are so many people here defending that lawyer. Homeboy should probably get Assange's terrorist penis out of his mouth and look at the situation objectively. Instead he is so blinded by his own liberal bias that his words have become ineffective and empty.
Wikileaks has asked the US government to look over the things they would release if they would harm anyone ect. US government refused. (US government is at fault).
Not to mention NOT one death has resulted from these so called cables being released. Nothing more than fear trying to cover up the fact that the US government is the biggest threat to world stabilization.
...and this is the proof that CNN got an agenda and aint any better than Fox News and the yelling monkeys running their shows. That lawyer was the only one making any sense in this interview.
Very surprised his mic wasn't cut. Greenwald simply dominated. Jessica Yellin can't conduct an interview for shit. At least John King is an emotionless robot who can pretend to be impartial.
"Any qualm about the fact that he's essentially profiting from classified information?"
Hey, idiots at CNN: YOU'RE profiting from classified information, far more than Julian Assange is! I'm sure this simple fact has eluded just about everybody. "
What a pathetic display by Yellin and CNN - reminiscent of Wolf Blitzer's outrage at Wikileaks for revealing secrets that the government hides from him and his colleagues. Like democracy, journalism is on its deathbed in the US. Mainstream corporate news media, aka "The Liberal Media" in some circles, are increasingly revealing themselves as tools of a plutocratic establishment. Just like our politicians, many of these "journalists" no longer even bother with the pretense of serving the public.
Jessica Yellin's idea of being a journalist: keep pressing Glenn Greenwald because he dares to defend Julian Assange, who is a real journalist... and lob softballs to someone who used to work for George Bush.
If this is what journalism has come to in this country, I am deeply ashamed and embarrassed for it. And CNN is actually called the "Communist News Network"? PLEASE... if anything, that's an insult to actual Communists.
@zombiesecurity Really? This is what our school system is giving us now? Do me a favor fellow american and keep your ignorant mouth shut. Your making all us smart Americans look bad. I mean seriously think just a few seconds before your hit the post button. Or I got an idea...know wtf your actually talking about so you don't look like a total douche.
@zombiesecurity What country are you living in, you clown? The 2010 elections already passed and Sarah Palin was never running for anything this year. And, even if she has a chance in 2012, she hasn't even declared it. If you're stupid enough to actually Sarah Palin as the President of the United States, our education system in this country is in deep shit (as if our country wasn't already as it is). I would love to ask one Palin supporter what it is that she would do to improve our country.
As I understand it, most media outlets are really careful when talking about people who have been accussed of a crime. They always say "alleged" murderer or "allegations of rape" or something like that, and for good reason! To do otherwise would be blatant slander and could get their asses into a heap of legal trouble! It doesn't seem like this Townsend woman ever got the memo about that. Pretty fucking basic shit right there.
@icarus313 Just a guess but in order to pursue such legal remedies would it not require his presence in the US, and isn't that something he's trying to avoid out of fear of facing trumped up criminal charges or even worse?
That's probably the reason why they've been so careless about using the words "Julian Assange" and "criminal" in the same sentence up to this point. It's unlikely that they'll be held accountable for it unless he or someone who represents him resides in the U.S. and can make use of that legal statute.
@icarus313 Yes I agree. Even though all this may have been predictable it’s still a shock to see the American press line up so uniformly and so unmistakably against the American public. It brings to mind horror stories the American press used to broadcast about Soviet totalitarianism, and has me wondering if at some point in the near future govt will decide public expectations are sufficiently lowered to take a run at suspending or repealing the 1st Amendment altogether.
"...others, of course, disagree vigorously." Who would those others be? So far only corporate media mouthpieces like these two are suggesting the secrets of a corrupt govt-corporate alliance need to be protected lest the people that still haven't figured it out are at last shaken from their sleep and add their vast numbers to an attempt to re-establish a democratic govt worthy of a noble people. Hell that hasn't happened here since 1776; no one does that anymore!
Not that long ago, perhaps in the 80s, maybe even the 90s, such a mockery of journalistic integrity and objectivity coming from a major news organisation like CNN might very well have been news in itself. Now it’s typical.
Jessica should be ashamed of herself ..Julian is doing is what she as a Journalist ,has to do,,,,is that narrow her mind? she didn't do her homework ,,,there is a place for her in telemundo,,, go Glenn ,we need people like you.
Glenn showed the world how the media is trying to manipulate the public. They avoid root questions, & want U 2 assume the guilt & intent of someone just because they imply it. For Glenn this means he will never b on CNN again. The mainstream news orgs days R numbered. Every day they pull crap like this is a day that someone wakes up 2 their agenda. Thats why wikileaks was created and is being used as a vehicle to attack free speech and shut down the internet, eliminate the competition.
Wow, Greenwald demolished both of these people: the operative from the Bush/Cheney administration, and the CNN lackey who cannot conceive of any purpose for journalism other than helping the government.

Ron Paul 2012!
He stands against draconian bills like SOPA, NDAA and the Patriot Act.
Less government spending, less taxation to American Citizens, and a budget plan that works.
This man has been fighting for your personal freedom and the separation of congress from big business for years.
He has fought against the war on drugs, foreign wars, the federal reserve, nation building, and corporate bail outs.
Vote for liberty this year. Vote for real change.
Thumb up and spread the message!
