whats the gas milage in the plymouth reliant, im looking for one of those cars, dodge k car, plymouth reliant, plymouth sundance ect, i have a lumina but would the gas milage be better or worse??
@araflygare All the cars have interior colors that match their exterior paint. The Reliant is the only red one--of the other two Buick cars, one has a grey interior (LeSabre) and the other a "pink" one (Electra).
@erniegasgnon Clearly cars arn't your area of expertise. I have one now with over 409,000 on it and the engine doesn't even knock. Transmission has never has an issue and there has never been a sensor replaced. Original fuel pump, only new timing belt ans starter, one relay and brakes done in service.
I would day that is pretty much not going to come from any other car !
@SKOZ28 Not impressive depends upon where you are located. It's been colder here, maybe down to -10F or so.
And it's funny how a guy's opinion will change if he has to stand out there in it all day. 5F is more than cold enough to harm or kill if you're not careful.
@uxwbill what year was this one? an i heard people converting fuel injected to carburated (like thats practical) but what about converting a carburated to fuel injection?
@Matthew55904 1984. Converting an FI engine to carburetion is possible but difficult, as fuel injection usually implies an engine computer's presence and its functionality must be replaced. (Yes, I know there are mechanical FI systems. And doing this may be a violation of emissions laws in the US.)
Going from a carb to FI setup may be easier and conversion kits may be available. Of course, sometimes an engine swap from a complete donor vehicle (engine, ECM, wiring) is the easiest way to go.
I hate Mopars with a passion, I had a Daytona that was hands down the most unreliable piece of doo doo I have ever owned. However, K-cars seemed to run damn near forever although they would rust out, they were the proverbial diamond in the rough.
@blue06lt I'm not the biggest Chrysler fan there ever was. I didn't think much of the K-cars at first, how good could something be if it was always the butt of jokes on the New Red Green Show?
And then I got this one. :-) I really liked it...Chrysler did know how to build a car once upon a time. I'd hope they or someone can do it again as I think the car buying market is once again looking for a good, inexpensive, nicely equipped and easy to work on automobile.
@Matthew55904 It went to K-car heaven a while back. In a way I wish I still had it--this thing was a great car in a lot of ways--but the amount of rust was growing every day and it had some problems that didn't look easy to solve.
@uxwbill that was one of the main problems with 80s chrysler, plymouth and Jeep they would rust and rot out hoefver it is the Windows salt on the streets that do it if its washed on the 1st warm day of the year once snow is melted it wont rust out
As for the sitting on a 70's couch comment. This car's interior reminded me of my grandmas furniture in the late 80's early 90's that she still had from the 70 lol. She eventually replaced everything due to flood, but those were the most comfortable couches ever.
I'm not overly familiar with one that new. It's my understanding they use a module where the "towers" that connect to the spark plugs can each be removed separately from the lower half of the module.
The lower half of the module should be bolted to a plate, and it will come up (although one of the bolts is a LOT of fun to get at) when you remove those bolts and unplug the wiring.
You may want to find a mechanic that you trust if you're not comfortable working on this.
I noticed when I first watched it--and I was like "hey, I know that steering wheel". Pretty cool, really. I probably don't want to think about what all the K-car it came from went through on his farm.
lots of k cars have probably passed you on the road you just don't pay attention and think there junk which they arnt at all besides do you think the car that saved chrysler from bankruptcy as in the k car do you think it would of still saved them if it was junk NO i don't think so........so unless you have something useful to say other then just saying k cars are junk which is a lie then don't comment go comment elsewhere
they wernt junk they were great the motor to stay away from would be the 2.6l Mitsubishi engine they had those as an option apart from the chrysler 2.2l motor from 1981-1985 the chrysler 2.2l was so much better the old 2.6l was horrible especially the carburetors anyways i still see 19841989 dodge ariesPlymouth reliant k-cars everyday here i don't often see the 81 83 there getting more rare....also we don't use salt on our roads here so thats probably the reason why theres no k-cars there
Yeah, i live in Maine. Salt is a must during the winter...but when I was younger I'd see a few Aries', saw ONE Reliant. The only one I've seen in the last few years is a mid80s Chrysler LeBaron that someone dumped at my work's parking lot, didnt even have wheels on it lmao. But I still see Hondas, Toyotas, and Nissans from the early to mid 80s and such that run perfect lol.
We will see! I just bought a 81 K car the other day for 300 bucks. I was looking for another MPG car along with the 99 civic , while I repair my 97 Golf and 85 f150 . So it's not my only car , 1 of 4, but i dont think it would be a bad only commuter car or first car for ur kid. It runs pretty good, better than i ever expected, takes a second to start though. It's shifts smooth and has some power, turns ok too, and one of the best weed smoking cars ive ever been in. Like sitting on a 70's couch.
Clearly you don't know cars, the reliants and such are some of the best older cars out there. Chrysler always have had and always will some of the most reliable, classy cars.
@nhagelin1026 you shoul come to lo angeles you'll be amazed how many k cars do we still have on the road , by the way i can see more k xars than 1995 neons
all the reliants in the world (excluding the red rocket) are absolute pieces of shit. I dont know where you got the red rocket from, but it is sure one hell of a K car to be even running in 5 farenhiet.
I think the old fuel injected Buicks are pretty good at starting in the cold. My mom's '89 Skyhawk has never had any trouble starting on a cold day. She'll crank for a little bit but usually fires right up no problem. Its a front-wheel drive with the 2.0 four cylinder, she's a pretty good beast in the snow too.
By the way, I live in Western Pennsylvania... we've got some pretty cold and nasty winters here too.
I'm a very big believer in having *good* batteries in things, so I'm not messing around with them when it's seriously cold and the wind is so strong it's blowing cars around the driveway!
They all started! I knew the Reliant wouldn't start too easy. I like K-Cars, but I don't like those Mitsubishi engines used in some of them in the 80's, especially the carb'ed ones. But you can Rely on your Reliant, I guess!
Dang! I'm amazed that the Reliant started, carb'd and all. Nice! It only got down to 5F yesterday where you are? In the 'burbs, where I am, it was about -6F with a below -30F wind chill. Bloody F-Ing cold! :P
Cool (cold - LOL) video...Glad you started the carb'ed Reliant too...I haven't started my 75 Caddy (sitting outside) recently and it's bitter cold here too. I'm sure I'm gonna have to take the Key Keeper's advice and pump it, pump it, pump it. LOL
Fahrenheit was the unit of temperature measurement I was brought up with, even though I heard periodic threats of how everyone and their dog in the US was going to go to the Celsius scale really soon now.
I think one of the reasons people stick with one over another has to due with the difference in scale. 20 degrees to me is cold!

@MXguy95 We got anywhere from 17 (in city driving, lots of idling) to a little over 30...and maybe 35 once or twice with all highway driving.

not really all that impressive 5F is not cold at all. I had an old Geo with 310,000km on it and it would start at -45...not plugged in.

usually K cars had fuel injection
NadrianATRS 1 year ago
@NadrianATRS Not until the later years. Early models were all carbureted. I'm not sure when the switch was made, but I'll bet it was in 85 or later.

@uxwbill we dont have any emmisions laws in MInnesota only heavy polluting states like CA require a yearly emissions test
