Keanu Reeves might have worked if Spike didn't have moments where he blurts out in anger. Other than those moments he's generally calm cool, sort of like Keanu's monotonousness that he brings to a decent load of characters he does. Shame too, because other than Spike's emotional outbursts, I do think Reeves would suit him perfectly.

Watch the movie Brick, the movie's director used Cowboy Bebop as a influence for the movie's visuals. Levitt plays the main character who looks just like Spike, and to some extent also acts like him.
