Kongo's ground game is in question though. Against Velasques, he was repeatedly taken down. Mir actually might be stronger than Kongo since he's got the weight advantage at roughly 250 and Kongo is about 235. I think Mir will have a much easier time with Kongo than he did with Brock. I can see Mir submitting Kongo.

Actually the tallest is Stefan "Skyscraper" Struve. The man is 6'11". And depending on the outcome of TUF Heavyweights, Wes Sims may have another chance and he is 6'10".
Kongo's got great potential. If he works on his wrestling and ground game, he can make another run for a title shot. At 6'5" and and 82" reach, he's the tallest heavyweight. All he needs to do is work on takedown offense, ground grappling and he can become a muh better fighter. He's already got good enough standup. Somehow wrestlers are his weakness. Hitting mitts is not really a measure of how well someone can fight. It just creates muscle memory against a basically stationary target. Watch the TUF guys, they do the same thing and they look like striking pros but when it's are real fight and the guy is moving, kicking, punching, things are different. That's not to say Kongo isn't a good striker but hitting mitts doesn't prove anything.

kongo was wronged in ufc 99 in my opinion. cain was rocked by EVERYTHING kongo threw at him, then just took it to the ground. i blame kongos camp for not preparing him for the takedowns and ground properly. get a new camp and fight again cheik ur fuckin ace.

Kongo is a prime example where Greco only gets you so far, and that you need the freestyle to back you up. Guys like couture are successful because they have knowledge in greco and freestyle. Not just greco like Kongo

Even though he lost one must give the man props. Showed lots of heart and great standup His gameplan was stupid though. Should have approached the fight as a "striker vs grappler" not "mma artist vs grappler" He has improved his wrestlign alot for sure but it's not good enough to try and grapple with Cain like he did a few times. Getting distance should have been his only concern Only good fight on the card. MAin event was just a brawl and the other fights got destroyed by the crowd booing

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I was expecting more out of the event overall but Kongo can take a beating. He had such a bad strategy. Then again, he only had 3 weeks to prepare for Cain. 3 weeks isn't really enough time to gain superior wrestling skills but at least Kongo knows he has a lot of work to do on his wrestling.

If Kongo is able to avoid Cain's takedown's then he will win for sure and if he does go down, then Cain has a definate advantage. But considering the fact that Cain has never lost a match he might just come out aggressive and try to stand and bang with Kongo. That might be a little foolish though.

Hitting mitts is not really a measure of how well someone can fight. It just creates muscle memory against a basically stationary target. Watch the TUF guys, they do the same thing and they look like striking pros but when it's are real fight and the guy is moving, kicking, punching, things are different. That's not to say Kongo isn't a good striker but hitting mitts doesn't prove anything.
