  • Looks like a gay Sesame Street. In a good way, of course.

  • Wonderful, fun and touching tribute.

  • gotta say, this is my least favourite sha na na tribute... the only one who does a genuinely good job on this is chico... jocko is horrible in rave on :( saddens me to say that as i love sha na na, but its my honest assessment

  • Was this filmed on Sesame Street?? Pretty bad...

  • Donny stinks here....Chico does somewhat better.

  • Donny stinks here....

  • oh man buddy rest in peace thats nothing what you have deserve

  • I hope my neighbors like buddy holly

  • they sound like shit but i like buddy and any music like that

  • Aren't Jocko & Donny basically the founding fathers of Sha Na Na, the ones who started with the concept and put the whole group together?

  • Jocko plays a mean unplugged guitar there,

  • Man, I love these guys. Thought I was going to marry Bowzer when I was 4 years old!

  • This is terrible. I'm sure Holly is turning in his grave!

  • Great tribute, but Buddy Holly songs should not be sung with a large group such as Sha Na Na, and also Buddy Holly had one of the most unique sounds ever, it really just doesnt sound right when anyone else sings it.

  • I loved this show, and Chico was always my favorite. I grew up watching this show when it was on originally, and only wish they made shows like this nowadays. David Ryan you will always be remembered, loved, and sadly missed, but there is a rock n roll Heaven and we know they have a hell of a band.

  • that was not good

  • This deffinatly the most acurate portrayals of Buddy Holly I ever sees. It just like him.

Paolo, Los Fahina - Gratest band in Mexico

  • Great group. Great show. All greased up and ready to sing their brians out. Rock and Roll!!!!!!!

  • Too bad about Chico and Dan.

  • I hope that Chico and Buddy have had a chance to jam together on the other side.

  • I meant Sha Na Na is awsome it the same thing as saying they are the shit

  • Sha Na Na is the shit!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great job Donny, Chico & Jocko on singing lead! Sha Na Na Rocks!!

  • Another passing..."Dirty Dan" McBride passed away, 23 July 2009. R.I.P Dan..Chico's not alone now...

  • Santini is one of the giants of sports medicine!

  • Fantastic!!!! I just saw them in Glendale. I had a blast at the show... it hasn't changed a bit. The music is timeless! Donny sang 'Run Around Sue,' and the woman were screaming!

  • Wow! I used to watch this on tape when I was a little kid (in the early 80s). When was this produced? In the 70s? I love it! Thanks for posting.

  • I was probably 8 or so when my Dad brought me to see Sha Na Na in concert... it was awesome! I'm 36 now and make sure that my boys know all the oldies. I would love to bring them to see Sha Na Na and carry on the appreciation of all different types of music. Great music!

  • i use to watch this when i was kid.. it was a good show back then

  • nice music,no modern black anti white rap crap,or leftwing liberal garbage.

  • this is my first time seening thees guys there kinda cool, i seen bowser on an infomercial (hes huge now.)

  • John Couger on acoustic guitar ;)

  • Dirty Dan McBride .... he is so funny in the "Saturday night at the movies" video

  • Don't I know It. I watch that part of that sketch over and over

  • We lost "Dirty Dan" on July 23rd

  • @msdemme2 He would later go on to play Kenny F'ing Powers on "Eastbound and Down"

  • Truly a HUGE LOSS . He was so great and he is so missed now. ROCK ON CHICO. ♥

  • Happy 61st Chico. R.I.P.

  • Funny how they all play different Telecasters when Buddy played Stratocasters. Love this!!!!

  • IF you love SNN as I do you can go to their official website and under LINKS at the bottom is a link to Sha Na Na Fan Pages by Cheryl and then on her site there is a link saying "HELP GET THE SHA NA NA VARIETY SHOW ON DVD!"

  • God, how I was in love with Chico back then.

  • I know that Chico is up there rockin and a rollin with my mom and my aunts and my grandma and my dear friends who have departed. You are DEARLY missed darling Chico. ♥

  • How many people from Sha Na Na are still alive?

  • With the exception of an original member named Vinnie Taylor and Chico, the rest of them are still alive. Vinnie died from a drug overdose and Chico died from a coma brought on by choking on a piece of meat. So it's basically just been tragic accidents.

  • Which one was Vinnie Taylor again? I forgot

  • Vinnie was in the earlier lineup of the band. He died from a drug overdose in 1973 I believe it was. Way before the TV show.

  • All but 2 I think, 3 of the originals are still playing. Check there web-site.

  • Who was that guy singing That will be the day?

  • His name was Chico Ryan.

  • Thankyou I was just woundering

  • Chico Ryan, rest in peace and rock in peace.

  • I like to think that he's playing rhythm guitar for Bill Haley in that rock and roll heaven in the sky.

  • "I'm clever, I gave away my age...'Yikes', it would've been an honor to see this show in person, I grew up in the Midwest though, & didn't have enough money to see this in person...*Sigh*...!!"

  • Jacko is in the red shirt.

  • I Had A Neighbor Born On: 02/03/1974, "Oddly-Enough", That's Anniv. Of When Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, & "The Big Bopper" Died... Sad, Yet True... Then Again, My Birthday's: 02/27/1974, Yup I'm A Pisces!!

  • I'll always love Chico. Man, what a fantastic smile. Definitely can't get enough of this video.

  • I'm in love with Chico!!!!!

  • Thank you so much for posting these videos. I too was a kid when this show was on and I watched it religiously. I had a total schoolgirl crush on Chico. He was so damn cute and had such a beautiful big smile that melted me. I was sorry to hear that he passed away. It seems like the people who make you smile and laugh are always the first to go. Rest in peace Chico. You brought joy to a lot of people. I hope all the episodes of that show are put on a DVD because I will definitely buy it.

  • what ever happened to this guys?

  • I think Chico (David Ryan) is the one singing "That'll be the Day" and "Peggy Sue." Check out his guitar strap.

  • which ones chico

  • 3:34 he's signing in the red shirt w/ guitar.

  • 0:52-sorry. . .couldn't read w/o my glasses! lol

  • these guys had great singing voices and did every song they sang justice!

  • I was about 10 years old in 1977. Its was the height of the disco era and it was also a great year for music. The teenagers werent into the old time rock and roll craze back then, but the children were, and they were Sha Na Nas biggest fans.

  • Any idea when Sha Na na will be released on DVD?

  • Aww, R.I.P. Chico! I was about four years old around 1978 and caught the yo-yo he threw into the audience. Fun times! :)

  • 10th Anniversary -

Rest in peace David "Chico" Ryan

(lead singer on THAT'LL BE THE DAY and PEGGY SUE)

    April 9, 1948 - July 26, 1998

  • what did he die of??

  • Details were kept private, but I believe he choked on food in May, 1998 and went into a coma until he died on July 26th.

  • so glad to see sha na na on youtube. i wish the show was on dvd. i was a kid when i first got familiar with the group. i remember someone telling me that they weren't real singers. i said to myself, "What are they robots?" well i was i kid. now i know what he was saying, "the songs they sing are not theirs"

  • I love that on some songs one person is the lead and then in another someone else is. Someone else posted on another that when the piano player sings, someone else takes over the piano, love it! I appreciate a group that is a true group. They worked well together and they had fun. Great job with the Buddy Holly. I am also a Buddy Holly fan and appreciate what a great job they did! Thanks for posting.

  • Cool!

  • Chico does a great Buddy impersonation; should have had a pair of glasses on. They really look like they are enjoying this one.

  • Got any more?

  • Soupy Sales makes one heck of an ugly woman!

  • Good one, Shelly; I agree. All I can think of is "I Enjoy Being a Girl". Some of them are prettier than others though!

  • Mistycat, I read your reply and had to watch the video over because I didn't see him. Oh my! I how did I miss THAT! He really did a great job -- looking like an ugly woman.

  • It's great to be able to see these again.

  • Chico is hot and I love these clips WOW thank you for putting all these on here.

  • Chico singing---awesome! RIP Mr Bass player
