gotta say, this is my least favourite sha na na tribute... the only one who does a genuinely good job on this is chico... jocko is horrible in rave on :( saddens me to say that as i love sha na na, but its my honest assessment
Great tribute, but Buddy Holly songs should not be sung with a large group such as Sha Na Na, and also Buddy Holly had one of the most unique sounds ever, it really just doesnt sound right when anyone else sings it.
I loved this show, and Chico was always my favorite. I grew up watching this show when it was on originally, and only wish they made shows like this nowadays. David Ryan you will always be remembered, loved, and sadly missed, but there is a rock n roll Heaven and we know they have a hell of a band.
Fantastic!!!! I just saw them in Glendale. I had a blast at the show... it hasn't changed a bit. The music is timeless! Donny sang 'Run Around Sue,' and the woman were screaming!
I was probably 8 or so when my Dad brought me to see Sha Na Na in concert... it was awesome! I'm 36 now and make sure that my boys know all the oldies. I would love to bring them to see Sha Na Na and carry on the appreciation of all different types of music. Great music!
IF you love SNN as I do you can go to their official website and under LINKS at the bottom is a link to Sha Na Na Fan Pages by Cheryl and then on her site there is a link saying "HELP GET THE SHA NA NA VARIETY SHOW ON DVD!"
I know that Chico is up there rockin and a rollin with my mom and my aunts and my grandma and my dear friends who have departed. You are DEARLY missed darling Chico. ♥
With the exception of an original member named Vinnie Taylor and Chico, the rest of them are still alive. Vinnie died from a drug overdose and Chico died from a coma brought on by choking on a piece of meat. So it's basically just been tragic accidents.

Thank you so much for posting these videos. I too was a kid when this show was on and I watched it religiously. I had a total schoolgirl crush on Chico. He was so damn cute and had such a beautiful big smile that melted me. I was sorry to hear that he passed away. It seems like the people who make you smile and laugh are always the first to go. Rest in peace Chico. You brought joy to a lot of people. I hope all the episodes of that show are put on a DVD because I will definitely buy it.
I was about 10 years old in 1977. Its was the height of the disco era and it was also a great year for music. The teenagers werent into the old time rock and roll craze back then, but the children were, and they were Sha Na Nas biggest fans.
so glad to see sha na na on youtube. i wish the show was on dvd. i was a kid when i first got familiar with the group. i remember someone telling me that they weren't real singers. i said to myself, "What are they robots?" well i was i kid. now i know what he was saying, "the songs they sing are not theirs"
I love that on some songs one person is the lead and then in another someone else is. Someone else posted on another that when the piano player sings, someone else takes over the piano, love it! I appreciate a group that is a true group. They worked well together and they had fun. Great job with the Buddy Holly. I am also a Buddy Holly fan and appreciate what a great job they did! Thanks for posting.
Mistycat, I read your reply and had to watch the video over because I didn't see him. Oh my! I how did I miss THAT! He really did a great job -- looking like an ugly woman.
Looks like a gay Sesame Street. In a good way, of course.

Aren't Jocko & Donny basically the founding fathers of Sha Na Na, the ones who started with the concept and put the whole group together?

How many people from Sha Na Na are still alive?

With the exception of an original member named Vinnie Taylor and Chico, the rest of them are still alive. Vinnie died from a drug overdose and Chico died from a coma brought on by choking on a piece of meat. So it's basically just been tragic accidents.

Which one was Vinnie Taylor again? I forgot
funkyle91 2 years ago
Vinnie was in the earlier lineup of the band. He died from a drug overdose in 1973 I believe it was. Way before the TV show.

All but 2 I think, 3 of the originals are still playing. Check there web-site.
