Not to mention Lasgun fire can make them cry. If you pit 4 squads of Tactical Marines (With Heavy Bolters) against 4 squads of Guardsmen with a commissar attached the Tactical Squad will lose. Cause man, Lasguns are insanely powerful in the game. With the help of the Commissars' summary execution skill that is. Even without it, it seems to be more powerful than a Bolter. It can pop open tanks. Or whatever you point the gun at.

Oh yeah. The Imperium keeps most of its citizens in the dark on most everything. On Fenris, the Space Wolves are considered to be Gods. Baal holds games to recruit into the Blood Angels, but all they know is that they're elevated to supreme fighting levels. But if that don't live on a Space Marine home world, or on a world where battles were fought (Armageddon), then they know nothing about the Astartes or their existence.

If you read "Into the Maelstrom", there's a short-story about an Ultramarines Terminator who lost his memory from head trauma. The people call him "Star-Man" because he came from the stars, but they don't know what a Space Marine is at all. Then the lone terminator takes down a carnifex (lol)

Thus Space Marines are only used for the most dire of circumstanses. Its possible for most worlds to never even have heard of them other as taught in myths and such.
