petty good. she should have been a little more crazier, considering that the actual mama rose turned extremely mentally insane. and also the singing was a little off. but for a highschol production, it ws pretty good.
Decent performance. But she was so confined because of the choreography. 2:39 is a perfect example of this. The vocals were good but she just didn't have the natural physicality required to play Rose. But I doubt it's her fault. Some directors make the mistake of choreographing every second of every song without letting the actors play.
Yeah I think it was the director's fault, because I thought the same thing. For example, at the beginning, "Here's Rose!" ...*awkward pause*. You can tell in her lead in monologue that she could've done better. But still, really great! Congrats!
Now true we're not getting the full depth of Rose here, but its still enjoyable. The vocals are pretty good too. What I really love is the set. In all th clips of on here its very simple, stright-forward, boiled down to the essentials. The signs at the end of this song, or what little we saw of them were great. Usually HS productions cut them because they can't figure out how to pull them off. I would have loved to see this show in person.
It's true that this show should probably be avoided by most high school troupes as its usually above the heads of most high school actors, but, as I've found, if you have a great actress who can pull off Rose its worth a shot. Gypsy is a tough show to do, but from the few clips I've seen of some of the numbers from this production, I think they did a great job. You have to remember these are high school kids, and you can't really compare them to professionals.
I think the girl does a fantastic job for a high schooler. The orchestra REALLY ruins it though, the trumpeteers should go to court for destroying such a great score.
But yeah, for a high school student she really did well.
ok, how odd. I thought it was a bit off. Why was I under the impression that this was supposed to be Patti? It seemed really different from what I saw on Broadway. :-)
was this comment supposed to be "sarcasm"? this performance, given before lupone ever brought the role to nyc, was given by a 17 YEAR OLD! she worked on this role with the dedication and devotion that any performer 3 times her age would have admired...give me a break.
No not at all! It was funny because I was miffed a bit because I thought it was Patti! but felt something was not right. When I realized it was a high schooler, I was actually amazed and laughed at my self. So, break given. Really nice job.
Hey i was only talking about Rose (prolly THE most challengin female musical role ever) I dont think that the likes of Higgens and Evita (and the others you mentioned) are out of reach for a high school i was only talking about rose.
I think this girl is very talented but i really dont think a teenager can play rose succesfully. But for a High schooler youre acting was prolly the best available (not that ur not good)and it was a valliant attempt. Your vocals are great too.
is that also true for: henry higgins? tevye? eva peron? sally bowels? should we just limit high school productions to grease and charlie brown? or should we challenge our students to go beyond what people think and really don't think to develop their talents and learn something about life in the process as well?
Well, it was two years ago. I had just turned 17, then. Heh. Thanks for the compliment on my acting, though. I've always had a hard time matching my movement to my line delivery. I hope that's improved in my one year of conservatory training so far...
rose is fantastic...i mix between ethel and beradette. the instuments how ever were all over the place and messy through out the song...but good job girl who played rose!
Wonderful job! Its nice to see that a high school student can do that. Many would have been horrible and would have given reason for people to say high schoolers shouldn't takle that role. In my opinion, you proved them wrong.
yikes....

wow, certainly impressive. a few lupone qualities, a few bernadette peices, mixed up with the girls own style. trult impressive

i have to say, i love the actress, but one or more of the trumpeteers needs to be shot

Considering her age, this is fantastic. And not to be mean, but I've heard 4th grade band concerts sound more pleasing than those trumpets.

all these people talking about "talented teenagers."

Fantastic, I understand what
Selendomono is saying, usually he would
be right but after seeing you
perform I think so long as the talent is
there (which in this case it truly is)
I disagree, and think a teen can
perform any role, especially if they
are as talented as you are
