my favourite try of all time - I was on my feet in front of the tv cheering this one in aged 13 ...love the sight of FOUR Scots floored as Bennett reaches the try line
@gmaccruyff55 Aye, let's forget about that, I'm a Gers fan and luckily the people I meet there remember, though some cunts (few, honestly) seem to pass anything the Sassenachs do, that's nae bad in general, but when it comes tae Maggie... well... I mean, luckily Glesga's still a working class city and all of us do remember...
i think we may have to look at reducing the number of players on the rugby field. due to physical improvements in pro players, there is only a fraction of the space available that there used to be.
amateur 15s rugby has more in common with modern 7s than modern 15s. 15s would probably have to move down to 13-a-side, or even 11, to recreate the kind of game amateur 15s was.
@Hannahcannae im not sure that is practical. there isnt really that much space left on the side of the field in most grounds, especially for teams that play in soccer stadiums.
but yes, if there is room in the stadium it would be less controversial to make the pitch bigger.
Superb back play of the very very highest order, sidesteps and a hand-off for starters by Davies, great backing up by Fenwick and his inside pass to Bennett was superb knowing full well he was going to take a hit as soon as he released it. There were no forward passes in the passage of play (clearly line ball by Bircher to Fenwick), given the backward facing hand position when ball released even if on the field by the lines it looked a tad forward the momentum rule would come into play anyway.
Its a very unfashionable thing to say but Phil Bennett was the best ever Welsh fly half, even better than john. He might be one of the best ever, anywhere. He tore the `74 Springboks apart.
@chanctonbury63 Phil Bennett was superb, yes. The top 3 outside halves in my time are Barry John, Mark Ella and Dan Carter. Cliff Morgan was an earlier Welsh great who should be remembered.
just play that again around 0:03 when Steve Fenwick takes the overarm pass and ships to Bennett in one move - right as he gets hit. Unbelievable. Great move and great finish, but that split second made the try and is pure magic.
one pass looked slightly forward i mean if uwatch the line of running hes almost ahead of the ball carrier..stil that was an absolutly unreal move..they were some players!! Wales at their best
1st international match I was at. Scotland 9-3 up at one point-Ian McGeecahn scored drop goal early on. Wales magic tho. Some Welsh tool shouted at me to put my flag down tho - Mind you, Scotland were winning at that point
My Dad told me Wales used to be awesome and now i see why, i wish you guys could get this good again, good to see you get the grand slam, it's a start
We'll I've been relentlessly pausing and rewinding, and its very difficult to call, at the momment of release it seems straight enough, but by the time its in his hands there does seem to be a case...
