  • Geez, 25px gaussian blur?

That seems almost insulting to the model

  • to doo all that you had to crop the photo? is their a way to not crop it but get the same results??

  • Too much blur! That's not professional!

  • thank you that really help...

  • Is there any way i can get a copy of that image so i can try to do the same things you did to it. I tryed to take a pic of my wife and do it but it is not the same lighting. thanks

  • Thanx alot man :)

  • i followed all your procedure but at the end I can't paint with either black or white. Why does it happens?

  • @gurunketa - without seeing your computer, my first thought is that you do not have the Layer Mask selected correctly in the Layers panel. I would also check the settings on the brush tool to make sure the blend mode is not set to something other than "Normal".

  • @ajwood2001 I also followed your instructions exactly and nothing happens when I try to paint over the blur layer with black mask with the white color brush. My brush is set to normal. I have CS5.

  • hi sir...about the layer mask, in your video i saw black color. but in my cs4 is white what is something about this?

  • @darbats - a white mask will reveal the contents of the layer, while a black mask will conceal (hide) the contents of the layer. If you click the Layer Mask icon, it's white by default. If you hold the OPT/ALT key while clicking the button it will be black. You can change the color of the mask at any time by using the Fill command.

  • thank you very much sir for your help. i got it!

  • hi how to make the brush bigger? please...

  • @darbats - you can change the brush size by using the options above the tool bar just below the menu. You can also use your keyboard. The square bracket keys [ and ] will change brush size. The right bracket makes the brush bigger, the left bracket makes the brush smaller.

  • Awesome, this helped me out a lot. Thank you so much!

  • i`ve been trying to do this for a long time

    thank you very much :)

  • Thank you so much!!! i have learned a lot!!!

  • Nice tute. However, you could make it more professional by removing the tv audio in the bg. Ugh.

  • really helpful - best on youtube! THANKS

  • Greeting and Salutations! I am your humble student, ....LOL. Love your videos!

  • Great clip but the soften skin technique is not giving you the best result.

  • Thanks Aj! really really appreciate your help.

  • you made it look so easy!

  • Thanks everyone for the comments & suggestions. I will be soon adding a 2nd release day, that's right we'll soon have TWO videos dropping each week. It's all due to your support, so keep spreading the word about this channel.

  • I actually can do all of this in Lightroom 3 without having to waste time in Photoshop. Typically I only go into photoshop to clone out a stray hair or something similar. Save yourself sometime folks and stay in Lightroom 3. Do you realize how long it would take to edit 50 photos using this method? Working photographers want something that works well without much fuss.

AJ, Show a video where you can do all this in Lightroom 3. I think that would be great.

  • @rwerland - I certainly can create a video focused more on Lightroom. This video along with others are based on questions I receive from subscribers. Thanks for the comments, and suggestions.

  • just another great tutorial done by you - thx for making it helps so much with editing portraits

  • what a fantastic, useful tutorial! God bless you :)

  • Hi AJ this is super! just what i was looking for. Can you also do a segment on full-body and quarter body (portrait) shots? Like, what we can edit to further enhance the image.

  • AJ, Thank you for the Portrait Retouch Part 2 video. Appreciate your effort very much.

  • I got a quetion for you if you could help me out. Iam no pro but I do like to play with photoshop I have design standard 4 is it worth it to upgrade maybe to photoshop cs5 cause it is 200$ to upgrade. I can't afford to fork out 200$ every years for upgrade. Love your video.

  • @Originalpoko12 - thanks for the comment. In answer to your question, if I were in your position, I would only upgrade if there were a compelling feature I needed to use. For myself, I find each new version of Photoshop speeds up my overall workflow. If you do not have a need for Content Aware Fill, Repousse or other new features than I would wait. Most consumers I know upgrade every other version.

  • Great video! This will help with my portrait shots. :)

  • @Poi159 - thanks for the comment. I'm glad you found the tutorial useful.
