  • @Hiidefiniton GOOD LOOKIN..

  • @HI DEFINITION I HAVE THE HFS20 WHAT SETTINGS DID U USE FOR THE LOWLIGHT TO CLEAR UP THE NOISE?

  • cine mode, 24p, 1/48th - 1/30 shutter, 24MBPS (MXP), and managing the exposure to hide the noise. Good luck!

  • was this with viberence setting one?

  • was this with viberence setting one?

  • How do yo turn on the light of this camera

  • is this type of vixia better than the vixia hf m30?

  • Nice work thanks for sharing ...

  • it look very grainy in fullscreen, it looks terrible, looks nice in small video window, but whateva.

  • keep in mind youtube has some pretty heavy compression on all videos to reduce the size, which creates grainy video, even if it is 1080p

  • @HiiDefinition hey I agree about the compression on youtube, try vimeo so that we can judge the camera performance better.

  • check the link on my channel!

  • @MichaelJacksonSpin yes, i know, i owned a hv20 ,500d, sold it both, i now have a panasonic sd60, not happy with it, great in daylight, but i was suprised with low light filming, it is a total failure.

any good tips for a camera that can film outstanding any type of light, without costing a fortune?

  • Canon T2i or one of the camcorders in the title.

  • hey, i have hfs 20 and i shot a video of my daughters fashion show, it looks great until i try and scale the video in post production in order to zoom in on a particular image and view it on a larger screen. do u have any tips or methods on how i can shoot or is there a particular distance so that im able to isolate a particular image in post production. i recorded it from the back of the auditorium b.u.t i know good quality can be achieve because thats where cameras usually are.

  • Hello, I was just wondering what settings you used to shoot at night? Ive been struggling trying to find the best settings on the hfs10 for shooting in low light. no matter what I seem to do I end up getting really grainy footage. any input or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in Advance!

  • description

  • Can I have the same result with hv20?

  • fuck me thats a nice video quality, thats it i am so buying this

  • **Hey please help me out..I am a member of a local band and i wanted to shoot pro HD videos..I brought a canon vixia h10.. I DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT...Like can you tell me what settings to put it on to have a 1080p full HD video...settings like auto fucus, white balance and all that stuff...PLEASE HELP

  • i have the hfs10 and I'm curious, I shot in both 30p and both 60p just in my living room with low light playing with my camera, and it was pretty grainy. Did you tweak the noise in final cut express?

  • I have the Canon HF M30, how much better is the HF S200?, i was think about getting the S200, is it a big jump in video quality with the S200 over the M30?

  • plaese chan u tell me which better tm700 or the hf s100 ? been confuse before buying

  • Well they're both very similar, but the TM700 is a bit cheaper and has a larger sensor when combining the three internal sensors, so if it's in your budget, I recommend getting the TM 700.

  • did you use any color corections, and did you use after effect or anything like that

  • All in the description.

  • hey nice vid

just wanted to ask abt this camera

    is it thr real shoot

or u did some editing ? like by program or anything

    thanx

  • All in the description.

  • Beautiful..! Watching this made me want to get this camcorder! The quality is too professional.

  • How many frames was this shot at?

  • 24fps

  • anywhere to download uncompressed version?

  • No, sorry.

  • Is the manual adjustment knob for focus etc. very useful?

  • It can be, but I usually use the mini directional button on the LCD screen, since the camera is less likely to shake.

  • Was there much more setup on the camera to achieve this quality? Which mode seemed to work the best?

  • what kind of wide lens brand model did you use??? I'm looking for one right now and a easy to set tripod, thanks for the video, it's spectacular, keep up the good job.

  • Thanks, anyway, I use the canon brand.

  • Looks very professional. Did you need to tweak the lighting in post or was it all the camera? Thanks.

  • All of this was done on the camera.

  • How do u create the blur at the beginning of some of your clips? Im using final cut pro. Sorry if its a simple question

  • I used the vignette plugin that was included with FCP, I used the blur setting and faded it gradually, matching the speed of zooming out.

  • When this is in Cinema Mode does it automatically shoot in 21:9 or did you edit it like that

  • Well first off the wide screen bars are in 2.35:1 aspect ratio (I do not believe I've seen 21:9 ever written down), and when I edited the video, I placed the bars. The original video did not have the letterbox.

  • @HiiDefinition oops I read 21:9 in a Wikipedia article lol.

    Well thanks for the info.

  • how big was this file? and is this or the s200 better?

  • This file was about 300MB, and the HF S200 is identical to the HF S100 in video quality.

  • @HiiDefinition alright thanks

  • whats a better camera overall this or the Canon Vixia HF200

  • HF S200 is identical to the HF S100 in video quality.

  • wow your shots are absolutely amazing with this camera!! I have the HF-S100 with a Raynox 6600-HD lens and for some reason I've always had horrible results with my settings. Im new. So I've messed with aperture and speed settings and almost always end up with an either choppy or really grainy result. What settings are you using to get such incredible results?

  • Cine mode, 24p, MXP and Custom Settings

  • Very very cool vid

  • I should get this low light quality with the HF R-10, shouldn't I? Just got it today, so I haven't tried yet. I was told the difference between all of the vixia's is mostly the storage size. True?

  • I don't quite understand what you are trying to say.

  • @HiiDefinition I was just asking if you knew if I should get the same picture quality in low light with an HF R10 as you get with the HF S10.

  • The R10 has a much smaller lens and sensor size compared to the HF S10, which will result in very poor low light image quality.

  • just cinema mode?

  • Cinema Mode and 24p.

  • is there a 24p mode on the hfs100?

  • im thinking about buying the canon hv40. Do you think that one would look as nice as this sinceit has "native 24p??

  • The native 24p and the de-interlaced version of 24p look almost identical, but the native format has a bit better quality. The HV-40 is great camcorder, of course, if you enjoy buying and using up tapes.

  • should i get this or the t1i

  • You don't leave me a lot of info of what your preference is, however if you are looking for image quality over features, then I recommend getting the Canon T2I

  • @HiiDefinition yeah but the t2i is outta my price range do you think this or the t1i is better

  • Comment removed

  • under low light conditions, do you have to edit them to get a better look? or is that just the hd itself?

  • Nope, for this video I didn't color grade or edit the video so it looked better, it all depends on the camera, whether it be HD or SD. The bigger the lens and image sensor size, the greater the capabilities in low light situations.

  • @HiiDefinition Would you recommend getting the best hd camera's to acheive this? or any type of hd cam ranging from 400-700$?

  • Well, not every HD camcorder is able to perform at these standards. Just because a camcorder records in HD, doesn't mean that you will get crystal clear picture, as everybody else imagines with this relatively new format. Most consumer HD camcorders are very small, and lack capabilities in low light due to a small image sensor and lens. So if you're looking for "theatrical" quality has you have mentioned, you should look into the vixia series and others in the range of $700-$1000.

  • @HiiDefinition ahhh ic, that sounds good. is there any other type of cameras you would recommend or just vixias? i've only been looking into the vixias

  • Well the only other camcorders I recommend checking out is the Panasonic high end camcorders, I hear they have some good capabilities.

  • @pandanese90 ahhh. would you recommend those over the vixia's i saw some reviews but this guy seemed bias towards the vixias but seems to have more options on the high end panasonics

  • Just want to say thank you...Your work and info have been very helpful...

  • No problem, if you have any other questions, you know where to ask!

  • This is really nice.

  • How can you adjust the exposure to see in low light when i do it it is on maximum but you still can see much

  • Awesoem footage, also whats the name of this track/song?

  • I took a bunch of loops and I put it together to make this track, anyway, if you want it that bad, I can send it to you.

  • @HiiDefinition Oh well of course i would appreciate that, thank you.

  • You're obviously pissed off at the fact that I didn't accept your video responses. I didn't feel that a focusing test was going to be tied with a video like this!

  • @HiiDefinition No, the video you have uploaded does not have 1080 pixels in vertical. I am sorry to send a comment telling this. Why should I piss off? I said a very nice video you have!

  • I assure you this video is in Full 1080p. Don't believe me? I can send you raw footage through e-mail that is in full 1920 X 1080p HD. Those black strips you mentioned, are not due to upscaling, but rather the camcorder having a hard time picking up the low light. This video was entirely captured and exported in high bit rate, 1920 X 1080, HD using the Canon Vixia HF S100.

  • @HiiDefinition the video you have uploaded does not have 1080 pixels in vertical. I am sorry to send a comment telling this. And the black strips are because 720px goes 180 pixels vertically to complete it to 1080, i am not saying it is upscaled.

  • You still don't believe me? Send me your email address, I'll send you raw footage from this video. That goes for everyone else who questions the composition of this video.

  • @HiiDefinition I dont care about the RAW footage being 1080p, this video IS NOT. 1080 pixels means the whole video must fill all pixels in 1080 window, which yours obviously does not. If the raw was 1080p you down scaled it then with an editor or your camcorder is a liar. Please check first what a1080 video is about first, then accuse me.

  • Alright, alright, I figured out what this whole argument is about. Your talking about the letterbox, or the bars along the top and bottom? Right? Well, I specifically stated in the comments below that I added these 2.35:1 aspect ratio bars to give the video a "cinematic" feel. In other words, the video was not downscaled, but instead was cropped in a way so that the aspect ratio was 2.35:1, just like in real movies. This is just a misunderstanding.

  • @HiiDefinition I totally understand what u are saying...i did the same for my video in Sony Vegas....its still 1080p...just adding black bars or "letterboxing" to the top and bootom

  • Also, yes, I know what a real full 1080 HD video looks like. Finally, when you said "lines", It sounded like you were saying there were lines in the actual visuals. The bars along the top and bottom are called the "letterboxes", which is supposed to simulate the aspect ratio of professional films.

  • dope az fuggg...good job!

  • im definitely buying this camera now. i was concerned about the low light shots but this is amazing for a camcorder. :)

  • Clean! But go check --La roux QuickSand Remake

  • Spam much?

  • Clean. Go check --La Roux QuickSand Remake--

  • Did you color correct this video?

    Also, what are your settings?

  • I did not color correct a single clip of this video, and I used cine mode, 24p, MXP (24 Mbps) and custom settings; Sharpness --I, Color --I, Brightness -I- and, and contrast -I-. (Cursor or Dial = I ; I-- = lowest setting, -I- = middle, --I = highest setting )

  • Can you also give me your Import settings if you don't mind?

Below you mentioned "Final Cut Express>Easy Set Up> and select AVCHD 1080i 30fps." But I have FCP 7 and don't see AVCHD in the list.

  • Than you must use a different format, for example you have the advantage of importing using Uncompressed 8 bit or 10 bit HD, which allows you to edit in native AVCHD without a single bit of quality loss.

  • You can also use the Apple ProRes import setting, that can support almost all codecs.

  • Comment removed

  • Nice video, I was wondering what Export settings you use.

Do you export it as a H.264 ? Keyframe / Fps 30? Audio codec?

Feel free to let me know and for import I read you need to change the settings as well in Final Cut. I use FCP7 but am still learning :), for now if i need something quickly I also use iMovie for normal movies.

    Any tips are welcome.

  • For exporting I go to: quick time conversion>mpeg4>>MP4 (Regular, not ISMA)>> H.264>>1920x1080 HD>> 24,000 kbits/sec (Match this to your Mbps of your camera, for example 24Mbps = 24,000 k-bits/sec)>>29.97fps or 23.97fps>> Quality = Multi Pass (Best Quality)>>>Audio>> 320kbps>>Best >>48.00>>>Allow Streaming - and finally export. Also the key frame I use is 24 and I use the standard audio codec.

  • I own the Canon Vixia HF S11 and I'm wondering how you've achieved such amazing low light capturing???

Is there a certain setting that I'm not aware of?

Or is there some post-production involved as well?

I'd really appreciate your help thanks!

  • I used cine mode through out the entire video using 24p at 24Mbps or MXP. The 24p allows the greatest light capture because the camcorder has less processing needs: If you switch from 24p, to 60i, you will note that the picture will darken significantly and the quality will decrease. I also use 24 Mbps on a high speed memory card, a class 6. When using such a high bit rate, you want to get a memory card that has a class higher than four.

  • I also use cine mode and I lower the exposure when noise is noticeable in the picture. Lowering the exposure creates a darker picture, however the quality and noise reduction increases quite a bit.

  • Is it better than Sony EX1r? or EX550?

  • Canon should pay you for making me order this camera today! XD

Nice video by the way. Nicely shot and edited.

  • I know, I feel like I should sponsor canon with all the people I convinced to buy this camera. Thanks anyway.

  • WOW.This is too much HD!!!!

  • This video is AWESOME

  • is real video in a better quallity than the video here @youtube...? if yes could you pls give me a hint where to find an lowlight video with that camcorder? or upload it somewhere?!

  • Yes because Youtube, like many similar websites, compress the video a lot to make space on YouTube, so the quality does deteriorate. Besides the file is about 250MB, I don't know exactly where I could post it without compressing it.

  • When i search for a Canon HS F100, Canon Vixia always come up...

It it isn't the same camera, right?

  • Seriously? Anyway yes it's the same thing, read my title, it says canon VIXIA HF S100 / S10.

  • @HiiDefinition I mean "Canon Legria HS F100" :b

  • Yes, Legria is from europe, and vixia is from north america, however they're completely identical.

  • @HiiDefinition Ooooh, thanks! ;D

  • I should have read more about how to do that before using the camera in a situation like that. Thank you for your quick response. One more question. When I zoom in on something, it seem that the focus takes a long time to catch up or the object never comes into focus. Is there something I can do to stop this from happening? I all ready change the zoom setting to slow the zoom down. That seemed to help. Any thing else I can do? Thank you for your expertise advise on this amazing camera.

  • Check your focusing settings, it shout be set to auto instant focus instead of normal auto focus. Also when shooting, make sure nothing is blocking the focus sensor on the camera. Disrupting this will slow down focus. The sensor is the transparent box near the bottom of the front of the camera.

  • Hi, I just got the Vixia HFS11 about a week ago. I took it to a wedding reception with very low light (nightclub environment). I know I shot in 24p. I did not make any other changes on the camera. When I viewed the clips I was disappointed with the quality and how poorly it did under low light situations. My question is, how can I improve my film in shooting in low light? Is there some type of setting Ineed to adjust on the camera to get a better quality result? Thank you

  • Look, you have to look at the screen while you are shooting in a low light situation, and if you see noise on the screen, than you WILL see noise on the computer, and HDTV. To fix this problem you must see if there is any noise in the shot, and if there is, you must lower the exposure until the blacks turn into deep true blacks. Lower this as much until it looks perfect.

  • Remember, buying the best equipment you can find doesn't mean you will create amazing shots instantly, you have to know HOW to use it correctly to get the most out of it.

  • Hello, that's a great video you've got there. Congratulations!

I would like to ask you for some help. You see, I just got the Canon Vixia S10. I have been trying to shoot some videos, but can't seem to get the full HD out of them. You stated you edited your video using Final Cut express, but I read that Final Cut Express does not edit in 24p, my videos come out kind of interlaced and with poor quality, even though I shot at 1080, MXP and 24p. Could you please give me a hand?

  • i'm going to assume that you have updated and you have 4.0.1, and what it sounds like you are doing wrong is that your import settings is not set to AVCHD 1080. To fix this, make a new project and go to Final Cut Express>Easy Set Up> and select AVCHD 1080i 30fps... which ever you feel that fits. Now you should be able to import amazing picture quality!

  • Great Video! Did you use different lens or anything? And did you make any changes in a software? Thanks

  • I used a UV filter, and I only added blur effects when I was zooming out on the buildings, that was it. I did not change the color of ALL the video clips in any way.

  • hey i just got my cam but i can't seem to turn on AGC... it's grayed...

  • I don't know, sorry.

  • Hey this great thank you forsharing with the world please keep making these short films so we can learn from pro's like you.

    MrJVUSA

  • Thanks

  • ok so i got the hf s10 (waiting for it to arrive) but i keep reading that it sucks in low light. However this vid is fucking amazing and it's shot with a cheaper s100 model. Is there any difference? Does the s10 really suck at low light?

  • Remember, the only difference between the HF S10 and S100 is the memory capacity, THAT'S IT. Next, buying the best equipment around doesn't mean it'll produce amazing results, YOU have to know HOW to use the equipment correctly. It doesn't matter how high quality of a camera you buy, if you don't know how to use it correctly, than you are not producing the best results. Also you should use Cine Mode INSTEAD of Night Mode. If you see noise in the picture, reduce the exposure until it's perfect.

  • As you can see here, the video quality in Low Light conditions is exceptionally brilliant, and ALL the clips used were shot using the Canon Vixia HF S100. This camcorder performs much better in low light conditions compared to other models, like Sony. Check it out.

  • I like it.....very cool....

  • Great footage. Seems like a terrific camera.

  • Nice work. Great camera. Liked the added blur effect. Noticed no motion blur @24p, some times I have to up the shutter speed so I don't get that motion blur. Keep up the good work.

  • Thanks

  • Is there a depth of field feature on this camera that can make it look like a hollywood film? Also, does it shoot in 1080p or 1080i?

  • No, there is no depth of field feature, anyway, it does shoot in 1080p.

  • @HiiDefinition Cool, thanks. That is a sweet camcorder!

  • when filming at night, especially skyscrapers, can you take a camera and just point and shoot or do you need any special equipment for film at night?

  • Other than using a tripod, and adjusting the exposure using cine mode, yeah you can just point and shoot to film at night.

  • Are you using some kind of 35mm depth of field adapter? Or is that just the camera by itself right out of the box with no filters or lenses or whatever? Great camera by the way.

  • I just used a UV filter and the original camcorder lens, that was it.

  • Cool, thanks! What does the UV filter do?

  • I picked a "brower" UV filter, nothing special. I bought it to protect the lens.

  • how does it record? do you need an sd card for it?

  • Yes

  • @HiiDefinition thanks. I just order mines thru amazon. Is there any good steadicam out there? for cheap

  • Well if you are looking for a very cheap, like 15$ - 40$, steadicam check out the "poor man's steadycam". It is very cheap and effective. You can build it by yourself or buy one.

  • Hey I was just wondering what your setting was. 24p or 30p? I am trying to perfect the low light such as this. I have a UV lens (polarized would be too dark obviously).

  • I use 24p, since it gives a movie like tone and allows the best quality. To see what i mean, go to shutter speed priority, and switch between 60, 30, and 24 frames per second. You should see the quality improve and the image significantly brighter and clearer as you move to a lower frame rate. This is because the processor of the camcorder has to work less as hard for the amount of frames per second. Check it out!

  • Wow thx for info... but what means Low Light? can you explain me that??...

I could get Low Light using Cinema Mode + Shutter 1/60 (recording to 60i or 30p?) or 1/24 (recording to 24p)

Sorry im little newbie, can you recommend me a setting to record Band Concerts??, Low Light could be ok??

    Thx a lot...

  • Low Light conditions is for example being in a dark room or being outside at night. However being outside on a sunny day or in a well lit room is not considered a low light situation.

  • You can use cine mode in the day and at night. To get the ultimate film look, you should use cine mode along with 24p, which is what most films are shot in. If you want to record Band Concerts, you could just simply use Cine Mode. Depending on the situation, you might see noise on your screen, so the way to get rid of it is to lower the exposure until the shot is perfect.

  • @HiiDefinition Hi dude... wow thx a lot, i found Expuse and its really cool, i will learn more about Exposure and AGC :D

    Thx a lot

  • No problem

  • @HiiDefinition Hi again bro, last question... I promise! :$

I was searching info about HF S11 and i found this:

Shooting programs (((Spotlight , vertical mode , fireworks , low light , Nocturnal scene , sport mode , sunset , beach , snow ))) and Special Effects (((Neutral , Low contrast , Brilliant , Skin detail)))

You know where are that options?? because i just find Special Effects, White Balance and Digital Effects...

    Sorry and thx again

  • Feel free to ask anytime, anyway, I had the same exact problem! I found it out one day by messing with the modes, I clicked on Cine Mode, than P , Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, and finally when I clicked on the last mode (For me it showed Portrait for the last one), it brought me to a whole other section of modes. Hope this works!

  • GREAT STUFF!

  • Thanks!

  • You are a most tasty New York DP. The shots are like candy. I hope I can afford you one day!

  • I thought I was at the movies haha good editing btw

  • thanks

  • does the HFs10 record in 1080p i thought it was 1080i

  • Well, it records in 1080p, but if you check the specs, it says: 24p, 30p (recorded in 60i). However I did notice a dramatic change in frame rate and quality when switching between the frame rates. I hooked up the camcorder to my HDTV and it said 1920x1080p. So I think it does record in 1080p.

  • Nice video and nice work in FCE

I shot this with my s11

50i, 24mps, night mode scene Canon HF S11

  • was this edited on mac or pc ?

    mini dv? processor ?

im crying out loud with my core 2 duo

    :(

  • This was edited on a Mac, using a software called Final Cut Express 4.0.1. Hope this helps!

  • @HiiDefinition what model of mac is this? imac? i wanna know about the processor, could you tell me?
