  • yeah be careful not to cut the vein in the nail...just cut the white TIPS off.....my dad once tried doing this when i was young....and he cut the vein in the nail...an our dog bled alot :( i was sooooo mad and upset.

  • My whippet was sound asleep under the covers. His head popped up when he heard the Dremel. He looked at me suspiciously. Too funny. Good video, great dogs!

  • @reddheddz

Isn't it funny that they know certain sounds. One of my dogs knows when I'm getting her food out as apposed to the cats food because it sounds different hitting the bowls! Go figure. Glad you enjoyed the video!

    Keep Wagging!

  • @Monique0469 My dogs will let me do their nails, but given the chance they'll try to get out of having it done. They started running out into the yard right before I was ready to start.. I finally realized they knew it was 'nail time' because I put my eyeglasses on. That's about the only time I wear them. Now I hide the glasses in my pocket until the last minute. I do realize that I could desensitize them to the glasses by putting them on often and not doing their nails.

  • Thanks so much Monique this helped my wife out tremendously!! And also our dog Tink

  • Good job on the nails!

  • what do you do if you accidentally cut off the blood vessels and it starts to bleed? thanks in advance.

  • Cornstarch and pressure or I would keep Kwik Stop Styptic Powder on hand. It is a powder specifically made for just this. It comes in different sizes. I know PetSmart carries it. We use it at the hospital all of the time and it works great. Very handy if you go too far : )

  • whhile my pup was younger (1-4 y.o.a.) i had to trim her nails from side to side. now we trim her nails from top to bottom. so im wonderin', it the manner in which one trims dependent upon breed? age? ?

  • if i went top to bottom when she was younger, her nail would split lengthwise. now if i trim side to side i crack her nail lengthwise. isn't that crazy.

  • It has to do with a lot of things. What type of clippers..are they sharp? Dull ones can split the nails. The size of nails also depends on it. In my experience top to bottom gives you a cleaner cut.

    Thanks for the comments! Monique

  • Thanks! Fine dog, gorgeous owner, all good in Geordieland!!

    Cheers,

Niall (a bit of alright lad himself B-))

  • your thumb pressed in on the shank that keeps the bit from turnin when changin the attachment...scared the pooch. and yeah.....i've had to shove my arm down my rotts throat two times in the past four years...but since we are cool with each other she let me and i pulled the deer jaw from her throat once......freaky. nice to see you takin care of your animals.

  • the other time i pulled out something like half a chewed up sock....that i had to put my hand down her throat.

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!

  • One nail at a time. Go VERY slowly and you CAN do it!

  • Nice educational video you got there, you have a great model dog too, he just sits there lol, my dogs get crazy , if i even attempt to clip their nails.

  • He didn't like his feet touched in the beginning either. Just start slowly touching and stroking those feet. No clippers for a while! Go SLOWLY!
