  • Wonerfull! Am I crying? Yes, I am.

  • ^.^ All I have 2 say is this: :O

  • Why doesn't this have more views?!

  • She was only 15 years old in that performance. She was born in 1980.

  • 小気味よい演奏でした。

    The smile is very charming.

    東方的珍寶。謝謝。

  • aunque el vestido era horrible muy buena interpretacion

  • @paohahn Hehe. Es las verdad...

  • Stunning!

  • Puta que o pariu, esse movimento , foi pra fuder.

  • i love her and her interpretation so much!! makes me smile every time i see this :)

  • She's fantastic, has a great vibrato technique is pretty.

  • I love Sarah Chang

  • the 3rd movement always puts a smile on my face when I hear it :D

  • like if all the coughing pisses you off!

  • Phenomenal!

  • SO MANY PEOPLE COUGHING AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS!!!

  • @CostonFrijoles So they won't cough during the best part of this heavenly masterpiece ;)

  • @CostonFrijoles that's why we have to make theese little breaks between movements... for coughing people :D

  • its wierd but i think her dress mathes the music(esp. the 3rd movement), not that this is anything, just an intersting little observation i picked up while i was watching the video lol

  • What does it refer to when it says "in e minor" etc? Sorry for such a dumb question, but I really wish. I know what chords and stuff is, but I see no relationship. Sorry...

  • @biobobz it means that the piece is mainly written in the key signature of e minor(relative from g major) its judt a way to identify the piece and don't worry, it wasn't as dum b question at all!

  • @rickdjew oh please like your any better than her she was awesome! are you deliberately watching this piece for mistakes?!

  • I wonder how violinists do it with the instrument so close to the ear for many hours daily for years!

  • I'm surprised the violin didn't go on fire.. Absolutely articulate and you can definitely feel her emotions; and through her, definitely feel Mendelssohn's emotions..

  • @koreanjeenyus I believed she had already turned u on...

  • this is pretty good, but guys i like kyung wha chung more :D

    watch?v=ibaIQB2MRr8

    seems more vivid and passionate

  • messed up at 1:36

  • @rickdjew LOL nobody's perfect:)

  • @rickdjew So what?

Can u do better than her?

  • shes so talented...and she gets the emotion and mechanics perfect! love it!

  • Interesting. I never knew she was this good. I love Kurt Masur always. I still prefer others doing this - Kyung Wha Chung. It is unfair to compare her to this level though. She is still fantastic.

  • cukor222 csodálatos lány csodálatos zene

  • csodálatos lány csodálatos zene

  • man she must be saying "what was i thinking when i decide to wear that dress?!" haha never the less I LOVE HER, super talented woman, wish she was my wife :D

  • Sarah es un amor !!!!!! genial concierto

  • bad dress - bad interpretation...

  • @alixvhessen how would have done it differently?

  • @AltaicPride01 The tempo is not steady - the tone is often very hard - it is played very technically and without the great warmth and sentiment sensible in this extraordinary composition.

  • @alixvhessen bad dress (relative) awesome interpretation!

  • An angel in every way !!

  • This piece inspire me just the happiness. Very humouristics with hug to the magic flute of Mozart at 5:05. Those remaining unmoved by the music does not deserve to be called a human. A masterpiece!

  • Wonderful performance! Sarah Chang might have been the best violin virtuoso since Heifetz.

  • from 1:00 to 2:00 the orchestra is rushing her.. you can tell since she is lagging slightly behind.. not her fault though, its the conductor's fault. though very good

  • This was an outstanding performance! I get really aggravted when people comment on her slight mistakes, it's not like they could do better :)

  • I love that squeak between the two trills at 5:09!

  • Masterclass by words!

  • WOWZERS

  • omg so good

  • Not even Felix Mendelssohn could've imagined this performace. It was flawless.

Arnold Steinhart and Itzak Perlman won't even touch this piece anymore. Sarah Chang owns it.

  • I love this movement. She is a young and outstanding Soloist.

  • I love this movement. So playful, and you can obviously see Miss Chang is enjoying every minute of it.

  • o.O

  • 2min. of this video is applause lol

  • dont u just love how she expresses her self?!

  • Wow. thanks for posting the video. Appreciate it. Just too good. Rgds

  • Not her best performance but itll do.

  • arrecotinarrecotan...wtf does her looks have to do with this performance? get a life.

  • @arrecotinarrecotan wow. wtf is wrong with you

  • @arrecotinarrecotan WOW!!!!!!!!!! you are obviously a freaking racist!! and jealous!

    you are a low life!

  • I dont think it matters how fast they play it. I think to be an Soloist of any sort. you have to put emotion or you heart an soul into the performing arts that you have. Sarah Chang does put her heart and soul into it And as a violist myself I feel it.

  • Well, for me it's important to listen to 3 or 4 things here:

    - Her ability to perform an accurate position playing (which she does fabulously) - Her play and tone on the G-String (which is fantastic) - To high-light the main tone of the concerto, here at 5:46min, the tone where the whole concert is going to (and she made it!)

  • - Her strong rapport to Kurt Masur. Perhaps she could have made some transitions a little bit more accentuated but this is a matter of my taste. For me she played one of the most exciting interpretations I heard of this concerto.

    Bravissima :-)

  • sublim :) gorgeus

  • 1:18 shivers mate.

  • emm.. this is quite a splendid performance! I love the dynamic contextual paradoxics

  • Really wished around @ 5:12 she would swoop down the dynamics so she could build the whole intensity back up, but overall I really like her energy here.

  • hi, someone who knows about this; does sarah make mistakes at 1:35 and 4:16 - 4:18 , i took my first violin when i was 17, now a year and 4 months later im learning how to play this piece and i dont wanna make those mistakes if those are mistakes of course

  • @RockoOscar Look at your notes, consult your teacher and practise. Then you wont make misstakes.

  • @RockoOscar omg! 1 year and 4 months and you are already learing this? That's really fast! How did you do it? How much do you practice a day? sorry so many questions haha

  • @shapeurmind lol, fast?, you think? Hahaha...., before i got into college I used to practice about 4 to 5 hours a day, now, sometimes i dont even do my college homework so that i can have more time to practice, but it worths it, i love my violin!!!!, dont worry, ask me anything you want haha

  • @RockoOscar Well, yeah. Even practicing for 5 hours a day, only having 1 year and 4 months since you first started I THINK it's pretty damn amazing =) HAHA I do the same thing, Last week I had an exam but the day before I was practicing violin... lol It's addicting.

  • @shapeurmind thanks, and I know what you mean, it is just beautiful, now i cannot even picture myself without my violin. My teacher is like, if youve started as a kid or at least when you were 12, believe you me, you couldve been a genius or at least really really great, now i cant stop cursing myself hahaha. How old were you when you first started?

  • @RockoOscar Oh that sucks... That's is a GREAT compliment nontheless =) I was almost 19...now I'm 21. But only about a month ago I started to practice consistently (which to me is 1 hour a day...IF one hour) so I'm now using you as an inspiration HAHAHA. But I don't think I'll ever be able to squeeze 3 hours into my schedule. =(

  • @shapeurmind Hahahaha, sorry but I noticed a comment later than yours. I agree with you, one hour is the most I can fit in a day. Also @RockoOscar, I can't believe you're already learning this after a year! I've been playing for 10 years and I'm still playing this, but it's only for IASAS auditions. XD

  • @RockoOscar sorry guys, i read what u were disscusing and now i 'm courious: how old are u and were are u from?

  • @waki Yeah you are right, im not saying shes bad at all, at that speed its extremely difficult to land those shifts in such rapid succession, when you listen to hilary hahn she does it perfectly...and faster lol

chang is good, no doubt about it. shes just not perfect, yet.

  • sophie, listen to 1:35 and tell me if that's "perfectly in tune"

it obviously isnt, anybody with the slightest musician's ear can see that, I'm sure your old professors would be disappointed to see you miss such an obvious mistake.

  • @tonaltenacity Very true. I'm actually working on this for an audition, I just think she went too fast for her to handle it. That is easily one of the hardest sections in the piece if taken at a speed like that.

  • She didn't take it faster than she can handle. In a performance, adrenaline is flowing and it's really difficult NOT to speed up a bit. In live perfomances played by human beings, mistakes are made regardless of preparation. Play a concert for yourself, and you'll know what I mean.

  • Woah, put those guns away cowboy. I'm quite familiar with how it feels to do performances, both solo and with orchestra. After al, I've been playing for over 10 years, and I'm still going strong! I'm just saying I'm surprised that, for someone who did Carmen Fantasy at 10, she actually got too much adrenaline in the first place. I love listening to her, and I think she did a great job in "covering it up," since she still reached the top note. Sorry if I got you fired up like that.

  • @tonaltenacity i am not a violinist & i don't know this piece note for note but i think it is more accurate to say her figers slipping & making a mistake. she is human, she was only in her teens when she performed this

  • yeah i understand the humanness.

my point was actually that hilary hahn plays it perfectly, even faster.

  • @tonaltenacity she may be more technical but i did not like the way she represented the piece. no shape nor tonality. my personal favorite is kyung wha chung, the best ever. listen to her perform this piece on youtube

  • @vesparazzigt LOL you dont really sound like a violist

  • @vesparazzigt i dont think that's the difference... rather i think it's their different interpretations; perhaps hahn likes playing this piece very cleanly, maybe not so much for chang

  • because she is the notes...

  • oh yes I've heard him his tone is flawless. I checked this girl outt because of everyone saying she was better than hilary hahn. Have to disagree. Hilary Hahn plays faster, cleaner, and more in tune than this girl. She's good, just not on the level of perfection perlman and hahn are.

  • Ive listened to every version of this that I could find on here, Chang, Heifetz, Hahn, Pearlman, etc.

Sarah Changs timing and delivery is impeccable. Much better than Hahn even if she does have a better tone. Heifetz plays it too fast for my taste.

Pearlman is fantastic, but if you listen to his and this one, you will see he times it very similarly, perhaps Sarah listened to his while preparing.

  • I agree but in this video Chang is very young. Noadays she's better, but I also think that Perlman and hahn are still better than her.

  • Comment removed

  • Hmm, but the piano is always slightly out of tune because of equal temperament and strings & choruses often raise or lower certain pitches away from the tuning of the piano.

  • @tonaltenacity Which performance of Hahn's mendelssohn have you witnessed? Are you talking about Hahn's recording of the Mendelssohn violin concerto? Because, i just want to point out, then we would have to compare Hahn's recording and Sarah's recording. Recordings are put together from different takes and are "spliced" together to make them sound perfect...you can't compare a recording and a live performance (unless the recording is a live performance which is another category)

  • @pppsssssssss touche.

  • 1:34-1:37 is horribly out of tune.

  • @tonaltenacity hear Itzhak perlman play it. ITS WONDROUSLY in PERFECT INTONATION. he has fingers like sausages and plays in tune and has AWESOME VIBRATO. plus he got a soil strad. sounds sexy

  • @MrAnimeFreak777 Itzhak Perlman is not that good and having fingers like sausages ISN'T SEXY!!

  • @commentsviewing r u stupid? she is amazing violinist but itzhak is the best violinist in the decade

  • @something2thinkabou1 I sort of agree

  • @commentsviewing Itzhak Perlman is one of the best violinists that is currently alive.. to say that he destroys her in playing is almost an understatement. She is very good but Perlman is a god.

P.S. When do you have to have "sexy fingers" to play violin?

  • @Mecinimi they are both wonderful in their own styles and interpretation. it is very hard to compare... mendelssohn would've loved what they've done to his piece

  • Comment removed

  • u will be able to say that when u can identify every note played. obviously, you cannot.

  • thanks for posting, I needed it for my music essay, haha

  • Now I wish i never joined band >=O

    CURSE YOU!!!!!!!!!!

    -guywhosucksatpiano.

  • good luck on your essay! seems like you'll have fun writing it haha

  • Great Violinist !!! ^^

  • i cant stop listening to this

i am not a violinist but yet i hear how talented she is... every detail.. i have never heard anything more beautifully played

  • Amazing!!!!

  • Good...Great Violinist

  • Wow talk about thunderous applause at 6:10. Incredible performance - thanks for posting.

  • Perfection!

  • never heard it played better!

  • she played it with such ease!! I am so jealous of her. I need to work really damn hard to play an advanced piece...

  • So has she and that is why she plays like that now.

  • What a prodigy. I wish I had those skills. I had to work my butt off in college just to keep concertmaster status. It's just so natural to her.

  • I have not heard a better performance of this piece. Now back to the music stand I go.

  • never heard so much coughing

  • @electronicjo1 seriously, sounded like someone coughed out a lung in the beginning!

  • No está mal

  • Just saw her play this about a week ago she is amazing im working on this now.

  • how old is she in this video?

  • u freakin haters wats ur problems u can do that well?? no? then just shut up

  • anyways, she pwned this all the way

    gj sarah chang

  • you turned into an 'a.s.s' at 1:36

  • Comment removed

  • i know it did kind of sound weird, but it's okay

  • 5:43 That's a look that says, "Yep, I'm a badass!"

  • shutup u hater

  • I think she plays too strong, Mendelssohn should be shining but elegant. Maybe I'm wrong.

  • there is no right or wrong in good music.

  • i think even conductor himself is enjoying it..

  • I just love watching sarah play everything.

  • And she leaves me speachless once again! :-D

  • perfect!

  • not my favortie performance but good none the less. Lord knos i cant play it like this

  • I think the version of Sarah Chang is pretty good but I think her staccato is to edgy. But then again I probably couldn't do it better ;). All in all her playing is very intense, I like that.

  • spicatto, not stacatto, welcome2mindfuck stacatto is 1 bow of martele notes. spicatto is simply making the bow bounce on the string. they are NOT the same

  • Sorry to disagree, but the technique used in this movement is called upbow staccato in german. Spiccato is different.;)

I think the violin proffesors in Berlins universities should know.

  • yep yep.. i agree with u.. that technique is NOT spicatto..

  • If any concerto is to get the title of "most perfect concerto", it would be Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. Of course its always open to interpretation.

  • If you have this weak a stomach, stay out of music schools, private lessons, all music recitals. Heck don't even listen to yourself play. Please, I've listened to tons of recitals from 6 year olds to adults. If I had your stomach, my guts would be all over the auditorium, many times.

This kid is superb. Green dress... well, I have a shower curtain that looks like it.

  • i also don't love the way she plays as a whole, listening to her Vitali's Chaconne, i don't really agree with her playing.

Although she is better than alot of people you find on Youtube.

If you don't necessarily need a visual, you should listen to Heifetz's version.

  • Was it really necessary to be so rude? You are pitiful..

  • One of my idols growing up. Pure genius!!

  • Oh, man! if you think this is good, you should see her play Tchaikovsky's violin concerto! She was fourteen when she did that one!!!!! (FYI, check the related videos box--- you see the pink dress?)

  • Actually, I was mistaken, she was eleven!!! Someone cought me on that!

  • I heard she was 9 or 10!!

And she was about 15 in this video I think...?

  • she can play Carmen Fantasy (by Sarasate) when shes nine, u can also check it on youtube.

  • yah I think we know that. she can play as good as this when she was like Five or four

  • absolutely one of the best pieces I've heard

  • GAH!

i love the last run at the very end :D

  • her expression+movement+style is kinda like kyung wha chungs (: i like this movement

  • WOW WOW WOW Sarah Chang.

  • wow sarah is very good! it so hard to say which one is the best cause there is specifically no way of telling. Each person interprets differently! I enjoy this interpertation and i bet that many of u you do enjoy this one! i have to say its quite different compared to heifetz

  • Mutter is good, Sarah is better, Chung is the best.

  • u saying Kyung wha chung or else?

  • Yes

  • Kyung wha chung is not her mother,

  • what do you mean actually?
