As an american I realize this car was not made with driving in the united states in mind. I would like to say that I am very impressed with the technology that the Indian business uses to make things affordable for their citizens who may not have as much as others. They really work to manufacure products that can actually sell to the people they are targeting where as the US companys make things to overpriced.
I think that this is way more car than anyone expected for the "lowest priced car in the world" title. It has fuel injection, a roomy interior, four wheel independent suspension, and sufficient speed. In a developing country this car will be all the rage. Tata COULD have made it even cheaper, but were probably wise not to do so.
Some people's responses are Idiotic. Nano is not safe???. What kind of idiots are they.
WTF are they thinking they will get for 1 lakh car?
Do they want ABS, Air bags, A/C, Alloy wheels, etc. Grow up idiots this is not for you, Its an innovation made by TATA to fulfill the dreams of Indians who have never owned a car before.
Do you really need a car with air bags, etc when you most of time don't go beyond 70 KPH in any Major Indian city.
Compare Nano with a two wheeler, but not with a Car
@sidarth i liked your syaing but i am not with you (Compare Nano with a two wheeler, but not with a Car) why ?
it have everything to compare with another car , and i am student i live from aother country and iwhant to bay acheep car it is soo cool why not i liked nano car soo much.....
I guess the nano is good on gas..it looks like a thrifty car...but it isn't that wide...it looks like it would turn over easy if you had to swerve to avoid anything..
Has anyone did a study on the "carbon footprint" of a throw away car yet? Seems like in the long run it will have a more of a negative impact than a larger (safer) car that might last more than a year. Divide the cost of a Nano by 12 and that is what your payment will be. There are a lot of better cars that will be cheaper in the long run .... but hey, what do I know??
Is it just me, or do all these Nano videos on YouTube seem to be only from people that have a vested interest in its success and not from neutral 2nd parties? They also seem to lack any specifics about the car, or actual let you look at how it's constructed. Best technical description I've heard is the "not dhu shabby" remark. In comparison to what? Only 50mpg? I'd rather drive an old diesel Jetta, get 45mpg and not end up mangled for life.
The more I see this thing, the more tempting it becomes. I'm a westerner living in Taiwan, and a car like that would fit in well here - there really aren't any roads where cars can "stretch their legs". And at twice that price (what exported models will cost) in the current economy, it might be worthwhile as a "throwaway" car - buying it as a temporary use car, then selling it. At least the motor and transmission would be easily repaired.
There will be diesel, probably hybrid and electric. But there will actually be a compressed air version. As Tata has buy a license from MDI to make compressed air cars. You can find lots of videos in Youtube and you may be surprised by the look-alike of Nano and prototype of MDI's compressed air car.
They say they are going to sell them in the US. Of course they will need to add safety glass and air bags and air conditioning and P.S. and P.B. and power windows and door locks and a catalyctic converter and smog controls and AM/FM stereo with CD player and satellite radio with MP3 hookups and several other things that shall remain nameless here. It will probably need at least a V-6 engine to carry all that. So, the window sticker will probably be around $25,000.
They will sell to people who don't want extra electronics and to those who want to repair their own car like the original VW Bug. Unsafe Vespa's flew off the showroom floor during energy crisis after doing nothing for 20 yrs.
did they compare a nano to the bugatti veyron? good thing they said 'design philosophy' and not same 'design'. even lexus review videos dont compare lexus cars to bugatti veyrons. someone is a little too excited about the nano...
I know it's wrong to make fun of people's accents but I'm laughing so hard I'm getting tears in my eyes, golden moments: 0:53 "bauer steering" 1:04 "you would feel................... nothing!" 1:50 nothing wrong accent wise just the saying sounds silly 2:452:48 As is customary in India? 3:323:424:16 ...and how far it will crumple depends on how many passengers are on board at the time 4:57 "No more drugs for that man" 5:37 No real sense in designing the Nano? 6:096:50
Quiet a comprehensive and fun review on the Tata Nano, The most entertaining and Informative with a touch of sarcastic humor, On the whole a very good review....Kudos

We should support this more than praising a bugatti veyron.

Hmmm... Tato Nano + Turbo/Blower = the cheapest sport car in the world! xD
I wonder if I put a blower on it with 0.8bar... Could I get 50~60hp from the engine?
Imagine this: the Nano with 50hp would be really good in aceleration terms!
I would like to buy one, just to put a a blower on it. I guess it's possible.

who cares about it max speed is 105.6k/h(66MPH) ?
it is a sedan and it has almost the same space from the smart for two.
just do the same change the engine for a motocycle and get (296k/h)185 MPH.

There will be an electric Nano soon. A diesel and a hybrid will show up soon enough as well. They're already reported to be working on it.
The conventional model had to come out first in order to meet the "world's cheapest car" hype. They'll expand the range later on.
