In the words they're singing they sound like Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman. The Rhthym Butchers and later The Turtles had the same way of writing funny lyrics. I really like this band...the other half of TMBG, the leadguitarplayer is damn sexy too...
I like the music on this. The bridge is epic, The drum makes it sound like they are cocking a weapon, then the two guitars come in and everything explodes :D
Linnell looks self-conscious. Why? Why should he be? He's dressed in the coolest shirt ever, he looks about the same as he did in 1986 (sort of), he has a wonderful singing voice, and he's doing what he loves. Not to mention the coolness of his hair.
Okay, different note. "Two guitars at the same time!" makes me audible every time. Why is this song sung in a key higher than on the original recording? is my question. I like this video, nonetheless.
@ExplosiveBoring : It's up now. Type NhjSzjoU7OQ in the YouTube search panel at the top of the page. It is the only result that will show up. (Or, search for "giants birdhouse video", i.e. the usual way.)
I know! But it's so depressing, because this song was out before I was born and therefore loses out on airplay to the likes of The Jonas Brothers. Ugh!
it's about the warmth and comfort offered by a little blue canary nightlight and how the singer would like to reciprocate that feeling for the nightlight by letting it know that it has a home in his soul.

@Artemis458 Fool...they're a cult band before their time...Malcolm in the middle...ha...my only concern is why did they agree to go on this uk 13 year old girl music shite program.
@Reidelicious oh great, so how about they never make any kind of appearance on TV or radio and only like 100 people in the world ever get to know of them...?
@Artemis458 ...Who appears on TV these days? Bieber, Britney and the likes...hmmm. Manufactured crap. They play live for their fans...what real bands should do.
@Artemis458 Can't agree more, fucking idiots just want bands to not be known so they can complain about what a shame it was they never got mainstream success or so they can claim they like cult music and not mainstream stuff. Fuck off.
@Ambegris Actually this is quite interesting. The BBC had the rights to show 'Malcom In The Middle' in the UK and were quite keen to promote TMBG's theme song. They had TMBG in to pre-record a TOTP appearance in advance saying they would only air it if the song charted. They recorded 'Birdhouse' at the same session for TOTP2. Of course "Boss of Me" DID reach 21 in the UK charts in July 2001 and it did air. The TOTP2 appearance showed quite some months later.
TotP2 is a repeats show, which aired on BBC2 up until about 5 years ago (I think?) which replayed the best performances from the vaults of Top of the Pops. =)
I guess since Malcolm In The Middle was a massive hit and they did the awesome theme tune their popularity skyrocketed. It happened to the Rembrandts after they did the theme tune to Friends
two guitars. At the same time. One cheesy guitar duet.

From comments I have been reading on Youtube it would seem that America and Britain are infested with muck like the Jonas Borthers.

Ambegris 2 years ago 8
I reckon they got a bit of attention around this time due to doing the theme tune to Malcolm in the Middle.

Given that the song came out in 1990, what was the reason for having TMBG in TotP?
(not that I mind, I'm a big fan of them)
Did they enter the charts again (there's a 2 in the banner)?
