I have css from steam, i heard that it works pretty well on a netbook, and i tried, but after loading the screen, it turns black and crashes, and registered a few crashes in directory. I deleted it, better on a desktop. I never played quake 1 more than once, so i might try finish it on it.

PS: Even doom 3 runs the same way my old desktop used to, so it runs nice.

Hey not sure if you can help, my gf has an Acer Aspire One, with the 16g SSD, 1.6 ghz processor, one gig of ram, and the intel 945/950 express chipset. We downloaded Dragonica and it played fine, then after 2 hrs she exited and when she tried to open it back up, we got an error of Dx9 renderer initialization failure.

Any advice man? thanks.

hmm, have u tried battlefield heroes? its a free2play, 3rd-person shooter, from dice. and halo1 should be fully playable, try out the demo if u want to. it has one campaign map, and one multiplayer map. if u feel like it, would u try them and tell me how it goes?

this is actually the first part of a 3 part series. Halo has been done already, as well as a myraid of other stuff.

I dont think Heroes would be playable on this laptop. most playable games are from the 2001 and earlier eras

the acers dont hav a disk drive so theres two things most ppl do, one is to rip the img file from the game cd on a desktop and install a program like power iso to mount the img to your hd and then its like the cd is in the comp. other way is to download a torrent, but thats usually illegal and some contain viruses

man i just bought a brand new acer netbook. it has an 11.6" screen, 2gb of ram, and a 250gb hard drive. it won't even play this video on full screen, or any other video i've tried for that matter. do you know of any way to upgrade my graphics? and btw other than that setback i love everything on this computer.

the 11.6" Aspire One uses the neutered and underpowered Atom Z520 @1.33GHz. it's even slower than the Atom N270 and the Celeron-M 353.

Dumb decision on Acer's part, IMO. The previous Aspire One models used the N270 and N280.

You can't. It's an embedded processor, soldered directly to the mainboard, and the chipset is configured specifically for that processor.

Why don't you just return it and buy a previous-model Aspire One (the 10.1" model, D150/D250)?

i am thinking about returning it, but i just love how it comes with the 250gb hard drive and 2 gigs of ram. really though i'm happy because it plays all my music just fine on itunes, and it's ok for some videos. i already have a bunch of songs on it so that's what's holding me back.

i do think if you go to the right computer shop they will replace your processor in just about any computer, for a hefty price. of course by then you will have spent as much as you would have for a new computer 5X as good, just a little bigger.

1. I have the 9 inch aspire. It's the ZG5 model. It has 1 gb of ram and 120gb harddrive.

2. I'm running windows 7 now and am using the default drivers.

3. The display driver I'm using is the intel 945 express chipset prerelease WDDM 1.0. The driver version is 8.15.10.1749. It was the default driver that came installed when I installed windows 7.

are you running from the aspire one's default windows install, there is a lot of "free trial software" a.k.a crapware that would have come installed with the laptop, uninstalling all of the crapware will increase the machine's speed immensely. You may also want to check for malware (viruses and spyware), they can be responsible for bad performance too

check that your drivers are up to date too

nope, all the games here are being run on 512 mb's.

Although 2 gigs of Ram will peed up loading times and will allow more Vram to be allocated for the GMA45 accelerator, the performance in these games has few noticeable differences.

I am running 1.5 gigs now, but that was for the main purpose of improving windows performance.

That engine has been updated an modified so many times though, some reinterations might not run as well.

not as fast as my desktop does, but the speed is just fine. it runs at the speed of a common school computer.

the chip is equivalent to a Pentium 4 series chip but with a much cooler running speed.

browsing is fast, the wireless card is terrific!

what I would do is either

A: download a torrent of warcraft 3 that includes a no-cd crack

B: install the game to a normal computer, then copy all the game information including the user data (documents and Setting/Username/Blizzard/Warc­raft 3), after everythign has been transferred to their respective spots, grab a no-cd key from gamecopyworld and hope everythnig works.

I used method B to isntall Halo, Jedi knight DF2 and also CS:S partially (just copied the .gcf files)

I got some emulators on my netbook, but im thinking the only way to get games like this is the USB DVD drive. I would have liked to just download an old game like nba live 05. A netbook is a great thing to have but the fun doesnt start till you get a dvd drive. Nice video.

i would like to point out that many games can be installed and copied.

some games dont run well or at all after this process, but for some games like halo, it works well.

I also have a CD/DVD drive/burner that i can plug into my IDE HDD adapter if i need to (like for installing windows xp pro)
