why not compare canon using canon 50mm? anyway, I agree with you tha camera is just tool.. it's just how you take the picture that actually counts. a little technical advantages won't be visible that much that could make a whole lot differences.
this test is bogus LOL you don't use a nikon on a canon to show people the difference in filming quality... if you want to make a legit comparison, do it right
@FRANKORILLA It's a lens... just because Nikon makes it doesn't mean the quality is going to be worse when you put it on a Canon. Comparing a Canon with a Canon lens and a Nikon w/ Nikon lens would be even less "scientific."
Both are great cameras. I think the video is better on the Canon. So if video is important get the canon. If you are just taking pictures either one is fine.
@joselykspy You have full manual video control with the T3i which is much more important than the auto focus in video mode of the D5100. So if you're into video get the Canon. If not you won't go wrong with either.
I had the Nikon D-90 for over a yr or so I just love this cam easy to handle not to much bulk like the canon's and it out does my friends over priced Cam's I never use the vid mode My picture's R Beautiful and out standing WHo ever gets this cam will not be disappointed with D-90 also it has better ISO then Canon

Guys i am considering the Canon actually, i almost bought it. But according to the comments, Nikon image quality is better although it has a lower mp count. I want to take mainly photos and also something that has manual mode.
Don't worry about the equipment. Any brand camera today in this category is better then anything a few years back. Just start taking pictures and develop an eye for good photos. It is the person behind the equipment that takes good pictures. Not the other way around. Just get a good lens and try your best.
@syberfilm I've heard it put this way also, "Most of these cameras have so much capability that YOU will be the one holding back the camera from taking great pictures." ;)
@MarcusCookiez go with the canon 7d its amazing if u love to take picture go with 5d full frame but if u like to film and take fast picture for something like sport go with 7d amazing picture and video mode ) manuel ofcouse
@MarcusCookiez Go with the NIkon D7000. IMOP, its way better than the Canon 60d in almost every aspect except for the mega pixel count. Nikon take better photo in low light than Canon. The D7000 have an autofocus in video mode and has more autofocus points than Canon.
Which every camera you choose you can still take great photos and can't go wrong. People make great photos not camera!!!
Better yet, buy a video camera. All dslr's take bad video, whether it says Full HD or not. :P Nikon's take much better photo's and have better menu features and so on, and canon just doesn't compare to Nikon's quality. As for video the canon is better, but if you are seriously going to spend 900 dollars on a DSLR, you're not getting it for it's video, you're getting it for photos. You want good video, buy a video camera.
The Canon Rebel T2i is defintally better for video. The Nikon D90 has a limited video recording length of 2 Gigs. So if you choose the settings to the lowest quality video, you can shoot for up to 20 minutes. With the highest quality setting, you can shoot for only 5 minutes. Unlike the Canon Rebel T2i's unlimited video length, depending on the size of your SD card.
Both cameras seem to work really well. The only problem I have with the Nikon is the fact that it has no mic input which is REALLY important for filmmaking.
Dude, i say, the light has influence on both tests; On Nikon it seems the sun hasn't reached where they are, and on Canon the sun spots are there changing color, and also the response of sensor for brightness.
Have you guys used the same preset for both cameras? like apperture, speed and ISO? I would really like to know!
@luckyazian13 I have a T2i and D90, the T2i I reckon preforms better overrall, I mean the video quality is outstanding compared to the D90 and it is cheaper than the 60D but pretty much has the same specs. The D90 produces good pictures but the T2i can compete against it. T2i just makes more sense to me pricewise, camerawise, specwise, you get the point.
since canon has 1080p res this is not really a fair test:P because of course clarity and stuff may be the same here but its just like d90 is in max gear and 550d is in 3rd gear ;) in this case. Conclusion: put 550d in full gear and... run!!!
im about to buy a new camera, and i need someone to guide me, i want this new camera to shoot good cuality skate videos in full HD and also to take good pictures, a friend told me about the Canon Eos Rebel T2i and other friend recomended me the Nikon D7000, can someone here help me to take that decision. @DouglasRoller dude i have a nikon d90 and my name is doug too so listen to me. get the d7000. it has manual controls and the footage is much more filmlike than any of the canon cameras. as far as stills go it blows the t2i away. btw, the nikon d90,d5000 and d300s do have manual exposure control in video mode, you can't manually enter the iso and shutter speed, but you can adjust the brightness of your image, most people just don't know how.
Nikon d90 i think is better with 18-105 VR lens, it has outstanding pic quality, plus it has a sturdy ergonomically designed body. Canon have great vid but the downside really is its smaller 'plastic' body and making it look so amature in size. Canon should have made it sturdier for ergonomic considerations. Megapixels doesn't really matter unless u wanna make billboards for living.
@trixieification if thats the case then I wish Nikon and Canon company should Combine their product it would be CanNik.. pretty stupid though but that would be awsome! :)

I need a DSLR that comes with a lens and under about $1,200. The size doesn't quite matter that much, what I need in order is:
1) Great picture quality, like D90
2) Great video quality, like T2i
3) Great auto focus, fast auto focus?
4) Fast speed, for pictures and following subject in video
Cameras I currently have in mind are Canon EOS Rebel T2i, Canon EOS 60D, Nikon D90, and Sony Alpha DSLR-A580

well it all depends what you want
I'd say the best thing about the t2i is Video quality and MP size.
Nikon d90, has where better picture quality and stronger build.
If you want more videos and less pictures, than a t2i is for you, (might as well buy a HD camera)
but if you want more photos but less vids than a D90 is for you.
