  • days when Mike looked like turkey terrorist :P

  • ha. from 4:25 to 4:30 petrucci is like "fuck portnoy, we gotta get this sick ass bastard in our band."

  • Hmm I prefer this version than the 2008 version, there is much more ernergy here, it's so powerful !

(and i prefer this guitar (look and sound))

  • @MrArkadin i agree. ibanez guys are very idiot because john wanted a signatura with piezo and they didn't want to make it. sorry for bad english

  • i shit my pants every time i hear this

  • EXELENTE... ESTOS LOCOS SON LO MEJOR

  • absolute, musical genius. Will these guys creativity ever end?!?

  • @jcw3032 yup

  • This sounds so much like Rainbow to me.

  • @Hikash rainbow on speed

  • Mike 'The Monster' Portnoy!!!

  • HOLY CRAP !!!, how do they do this?, they are Sick !

  • so so so so amazing

best group of musicians to be in one band

  • levin is insane... that chapman stick thing he uses is so wierd, it must be wicked hrd to play like he does..

  • I think it's kinda like Stanley Jordan or Zack Kim play their guitars, or double guitars :P

  • its not that hard, but it is a challenge

  • Petrucci is just SOOO clean!

  • been a long time Dream Theater fan and never new Portnoy and Petrucci were in LTE...lol These guys just plain ROCK!!!

  • I wish I was there...

  • Playing that much is just rude....

  • why

  • That's Tony Levin, Rudess wasn't bald at the time

  • LOL dude... excuse me but that was an epic fail

  • LoL

  • they are amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm an LTE noob. Who's the bassist? That definitely isn't Myung lol

  • Tony Levin, most notably from King Crimson.

  • why people voting minus just cause u drunk :P

  • jealousy

  • the riff of the intro is really hard, simple but at petrucci's speed it turns out imposible for me yet haha,

  • such talent, such raw fuckin talent no one can touch these fuckin guys even to this day they just keep movin on and getting better and crazier. preach

  • why did Jordan cut his hair?... He had had it that long since his first album, Arrival, in 1988, he had it curlier though... nevertheless i must admit that the bald thing and the white goatbeard give him this sci-fi look which so well complements with his unearthly music. he is THE MAN

  • Truly the 'Keyboard Wizard' :)

  • uforgettable scenes of John with Ibanez.

  • he switched right around 99, right?

    like, SFAM days?

  • yeah, he switched to Ernie Ball at the end of 1999, John sold some of his Ibanez guitars before he enter to EBMM. and I love SFAM tone, I think it was his best tone using Ibanez JPM Guitars. I really missed that times.

  • Im pretty much convinced they are aliens to be able to play that amazing. They are all gods

  • A band formed of such raw talent is inevitably amazing.

  • they are gods. but gods don't need recognition from the majority, just as few that would understand this awesome music is enough, they are what they are now.

  • God!! This is so fucking awesome!!!

  • In fron of you the gods of progessive metal

  • wow god on the guitar created earth right around 5 mins flat in this song the pinch at 5:26 is crunchy

  • Levin is rippin' it up!

  • when was LTE created???

  • bout 11 years ago, listen to these Dream Theater side projects - Explorers Club, The Jelly Jam, Liquid Tension Experiment, MullMuzzler, Nightmare Cinema, OSI, Platypus, Transatlantic or True Symphonic Rockestra.

  • thank you!!!!

those bands are so awesome im surprised i never even knew they existed

  • so this is the band of jesus christ and his apostols...

  • HAHA.

  • whos the dick that keeps getting in the way of the camera?

  • That would be me. I'm actually the same guy that gets in the way of your bootleg movies, too.

  • LOL so sincere

  • they're stunningly talented

  • awesome! mike the machine!

  • omg, i see someone that have octopus hands playin guitar!

  • who the hell was the engineer? the engineer really pisses me off!! :<

  • tirando o baxista o resto é bom =)!!!!!!!!!

  • Ah man I get the chills of this song :D

I'm surprised the LTE vids got such low views / ratings too.

  • im surprised this only has 70.000 views

  • LTE isn't that well known.

  • it isnt a bass, is a chapman stick

  • the sound of that bass is absolutely insane!

  • this is what music really is.

often, when something is this difficult to play, the musicality is completely out the window.

    but this sounds great.

  • NO WORDS..... I am fucking in love.. VALERIO

  • Shit MAN this Guys are Amazing!!

  • ESTAV RE BUENO LOCO

  • Music isn't a contest or a competition damnit. None of the musicians who are constantly compared in chat rooms and whatnot don't give a flying fuck who is better. That's not what's important. That's not what music is about.

  • I love how whoever films this realises that at around 2.30 hes been awfully Petrucci biased in his recording. Not that its a bad thing.

  • damn you.,Herman Li and the other DragonForce guitarist is NOT EVEN CLOSE to Mr. JOHN PETRUCCI!!!

  • god john petrucci is awesome ... he's so much better a better guitar player then the dragonforce guy because petrucci can play live too

  • yea and john plays WAY more technical. herman is more about speed

  • dude the opening riff is 4 notes per beat at 210 on the metronome (on multiple strings as well). my metronome only goes upto 208. herman can suk ma bals

  • im not saying john is slower. john is way faster but he isnt all about shredding, he actually uses technique. herman just shreds all the time, kinda gets boring. john rocks! \m/

  • not to mention that herman actually fails. listen to the studio ver. of through the fira and flames.

after 3:20 somthing he messes up the wahwah BIG TIME, making the next few bars completely out of sync.

he does deserve som praise for improvising pretty much everything though, that's something i'd want more from in petrucci.

  • Cool. I remember recording this video at the 1999 NAMM show along with the Roxy show and handing a copy to Portnoy the next day at his Tama signing. The Roxy show was a trip because my tape was confiscated and I had to buy it back for $50. So glad I did because even though it isn't A+ quality, it captured a very rare momen in time.

    I felt awkward recording this:

    watch?v=Ae3f7NeTu-E

but Petrucci is such an amazing talent that I just couldn't help myself. Good Times

  • I have this video, it was filmed 1999-01-31 at 1:40 in the morning. NAMM convention los angeles.

tony levin's website has a tour diary entry about it.

  • if someone stood up while i was recording the petrucci solo like that, i woulda thrown my damn shoe and and "HEY FAT SHIT STOP BLOCKIN THE GREATNESS!!!"

  • How old is Levin? like 50?

    Badass.

  • Actually, he's 62!! Still a badass.

  • How did he come to join this band? I belive he was done with king crimson at this time, but was this while he was doing his own solo work?

  • How did he come to join this band? I belive he was done with king crimson at this time, but was this while he was doing his own solo work?

  • Just GREAT...

  • Tony is playing a Chapman Stick-

  • anyone know what kind of bass levine is playing... ive never seen one of those before... im a guitarist....

  • THis is awesome... one band with the craziest mucisians.

  • I just wish the quality of the video was a bit better. Either, bad ass! Deftones, eat your hearts out...

  • tony levin is so awesome

  • LTE is soooo amazing.

everyone ripps on labrie, but i really think he has the right voice for DT.

i really love tony levin, but i hate how i can rarely hear him in LTE. in this song, he has a distinct setion in the latter half of the song, but in most of the LTE songs, i really just can't hardly hear him

  • THis song is so fun to play on drums. I love these guys

  • The Radio was dead when it was created, there's nothing good on it

  • This is amazing.

Now I need to go play drum (Always need after listening LTE)

  • u guys rip on labrie for some reason. he comes up with amazing melodies that contribute a lot to what petrucci plays in slower parts of songs. he has a lot more contribution in DT than u noobs think he has and they would nottt be better with another singer. maybe jon anderson, but that it;)

  • Well yeah, but sometimes I just want to listen to some metallic instrumental master flow not disturbed by his singing. It's a rather subjective thing, as a lot things in music.

  • right on, well said. he has the right timbre and tone for dream theater, seems todays fans want a screamo opeth style onslaught delivered to their eardrums. give me a break. Mike Portnoy likes James, and I like him 2.

Even Dominici said in an interview the other day that James voice is better suited to DT music. he is right.

that said. go out and buy Greatest Hit, and O3: Part 3 by Charlie Dominici. Oh and support your local record stores by buying merchandise there instead giant chains

  • Compared to LTE, especially melodies and technical mastery, Korn is, to say the least, inferior.

  • Korn, while creative, are noobs.

They also helped ruin radio! :(

  • Just to get things straight with everyone who thinks Rudess is playing God damn bass.. The bassist's name is Tony Levin

  • it superb

  • Great music! These are very talented musicians. If you want to see an amusing cover of this piece look up LEGO TENSION EXPERIMENT. I think fans of Petrucci and Portnoy will appreciate it.

  • I think its cool how, after doing this(and dont critisize me if my timing is off), and the blend with tony forking crimson, you notice alot of King Crimson elements in DT's Falling into infinity. but then again, that might have been somthing that Derek Sherani brought to the band.

  • Sherinian?

  • What kind of pickups does petrucci use?

  • Watch the Psycho Exercises, they enable him to go into Killzone mode, and when he shreds, the two middle pickups activate and he can kill people.

  • On that Ibanez he had two DiMarzio PAF humbuckers in the neck and bridge positions, i believe.

  • i really didnt like labrie... im glad they ditched him... but why ditch myung.. probably myung ditched them... but why??

  • You realize that this is an old side project, no one was ditched.

  • o rly? didnt know that, i thought LTE came after DT. at least i heard of it after :P my bad

  • Se nota que en liquid tension experiment estan los mejores de los mejores ,solo ellos podrian componer algo asi

  • Salvaje. Literalmente salvaje.

  • everyone stop fucking ripping on labrie. sure, some of his live performances aren't perfect...but if Dream Theater dropped him i wouldn't keep buying their albums. James has a fantastic voice and brilliant studi performance.

  • I would prefer if he had Bruce Dickinson's vocal range instead of his high range. Too much of it makes my ears hurt.

  • true...Bruce is a fine singer...but Labrie does have talent

  • i think the lack of a vocalist is a good thing. labrie, anyone?

  • That's Tony Levin...he's been playing progressive-style music since the DT guys were in diapers.

  • wTF !! rudess on bass!!!

  • lol! Of course not! It's Tony Levin, by the way this show was way before Rudess ''got rid'' of his hair!!

  • holy shit is rudess on bass or kevin?

  • Wow portnoy's snare is so loud

  • I love this song, but the sound quality of this videos is not good =S. Long Live to Dream Theater & Liquid Tension

  • rudess wasnt even in dream theater back then, he joined DT after that

  • naw its definatly rudess i just looked it up in a discography

  • Its not rudess why would they make a whole new band to fucking replace the bassist

  • it is rudess (with long hair i might add; so kick ass)

LTE was an instrumental side project

    NOT to replace DT

note the lack of a vocalist which somewhat proves my point

  • It is Rudess, and for your information, Rudess was is LTE before he joined DT.

  • rudess joined DT after the the first LTE

i think he was a DT band member by the time of LTE 2

  • mmm they recorded LTE and LTE2 in the same week ... they took rudess a couple of months after this experience

  • LTE Paradigm shift solo, FNM Epic solo and GnR November Rain are the (in my opinion) most emotional solos i ever heard :O wooooow...

  • the fastest solo i have ever heard

  • kick ass!

  • boddhs that's exactly what i told them in the acid rain video. and john myung is so much better than this old guy.

  • *haha, yeah, tony levin, the bassist from king crimson is garbage.*

ok, sarcasm mode is off now.

  • One of the greatest rock instrumentals of all time. Period.

  • its basically dream theater without the vocalist and a different bassist

  • whow...this is a awesome band...better than that limp, pussified prog rock w/ singing ive been hearing lately. the guitar player is phenomenal...

    Kill Ugly Radio.

  • petrucci's solo in paradigm shift is one of the best i've ever heard.

  • chapman sticks=awesome

  • who's the bass player ? kind of pet gab crew

  • Tony levin ( yes pet gab pink F John L PF Simon ) jun 6 1946 ( music keep youth alive , i'll be like him later ball head playing music in France )

  • JORDAN = GOD

  • Hell yeah man. I think he's the most talented out of all of them. Just check out his solo stuff. Search for the video of him performing "Ra". He's incredible man.

  • This is Liquid Tension Experiment, a side project headed up by Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy. Also John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess from Dream Theater are in the band.

  • whoooo...I missed this band..this is my first time hearing this...who is in the band?

    Phenomenal chops!

  • I think John Petrucci should have a church built in his honor.

  • All this argument is ridiculous. There's no such thing as a wrong opinion, guys.

  • j.p has amazing fingers.

  • Great song, great musicians, great version !

  • dont forget petrucci amazing guitar playing in this song. Jordan Rudess is also spectacular. LTE is one of the few packages that can make this combination work.

  • Mediocre? Fine have your opinion but BACK IT UP.

  • but it is a live performance..people make mistakes..yes people, wait, mike portnoy doesn't make mistakes..Another thing, why do people say mike portnoy is god at drums? He is obviously better that god at drums...Anyone who can be as good as him at them and sing at the same time = fucking amazing

  • Portnoy admits hie messes up all the time. Watch the Score DVD. he says "oh sure I mess up all the time, when you have experence, you just learn to mask it better"

  • i think the audio on this recording doesn't pick up Portnoy as well as the other band members. he's good if you listen to the studio version.

  • amazing

  • They are cooler than Chuck Norris with a super-mullet.

  • petrucci is chuck norris on a guitar

  • Mike portnoy eats butt, but this song rules.

  • Eats butt...as in sucks at drums? I think not. He's by far one of the best...thanks for playing though.

  • Actually, he really isn't. really. He's really mediocre as far as pro players go. Try John blackwell, Jojo Mayer, Jimmy Chamberlin. Portnoy is just kinda.... Meh.

  • Way to jump on the Portnoy bashing bandwagon with your pseudo "knowledge" of the world of professional drumming.

  • Pseudo? pretty big word for an idiot. You're just a sad dream theater fan who doesn't wanna see me bash his drumming idol. I'm right. you're wrong. game over.

  • Wow, I wasn't aware that 6 letters made a big word. How about I just speak completely normal and tell you the truth without being an a complete idiot. You don't know me, you know nothing of my level of intelligence, and you attacked me like a child. If you don't LIKE Portnoy that is fine and I couldn't care less, but you act as though you are some expert and that Portnoy is just average. If that is the case you are trying to make then YOU are wrong.

  • Woah, buddy, don't get angry at me, I'm just giving you the facts. People use dreamtheater as their flagship band, they act all pompous like they know what they're talking about just cuz they know the names Portnoy and Petruci. fact of the matter is, I can easily think of at least 100 drummers I'd put before him. And thats just because thats probably waht I could remember off the top of my head.

  • Fanboyism aside, don't you boys have something better to do? Maybe trying to beat Portnoy at drumming? Good luck.

  • well neither are them are in any good bands, they are just the show off drummers who do clinics, kinda of like what satriani and vai are. There damn brilliant just not in good bands, portnoy may not have the speed and coordination as those guys, but hes fucken good, hes techincal, pretty quick, extremly coordinated, and can contribute and make 20 minute songs. you dont need to be jo jo mayer good to be pro

  • Oh this I know, believe me. I just get tired of people saying he's the best. It's uninformed, just kinda lame.

  • "There has been a finding of increased amounts of narcissism in children under the age of 20."

Congratulations on proving them right with your "I'm right your wrong" statement. *sigh*

  • Hahaha. that right, act all smart. you play right into my point. DT fans use them as their "look how much I know about music" band. They act all arrogant when what they are listening to is quite simply hair metal at 200BPM. I don't care if you think i'm narcissistic. The fact is this is a band of chop nazis that only take music backwards. Quite frankly, You smack of being a little full of yourself as well.

  • You obviously havent listened to any DT. They only have couple of pointless chopfest songs.. but they have dozens of songs that are beautiful, they have great lyrics and their slower songs really kick ass. but anyway.. it´s your problem if you don´t like them.

  • Kai Hahto.

    /discussion

  • He may be the best at his genre, but probably the best drummer in the world is some jazz drummer no one has ever heard of.

  • Dude. I decree this song the best, and most holy song in the god damned world.

    So wicked.

  • How many strings on that bass! It`s so great

  • it's not a bass. it's a chapman's stick.
