Apologies for the terminology...coming from the pro audio domain, and reading multiple citations on sidebands for the FP etalon, you're right. They are passbands rather than sidebands. Thanks for the correction
@howesnickhowes: The Fabry-Perot etalon does *not* produce sidebands in the same way RF sidebands exist. The etalon produces a large series of very narrow passbands each separated by a certain wavelength interval (the "free spectral range")., so the etalon is sort of a "comb" filter. Blocking and trimming filters are then used to select the desired passband, such as the H-alpha or Calcium lines.
