  • Great video

  • I'm 58 and just starting to understand astronomy, thanks for keeping the tech talk as close to a laymans level as you did. I will continue to learn. As long as there continues to be teachers like you who understand that some of us need some time to catch up. thanks nick. David

  • Apologies for the terminology...coming from the pro audio domain, and reading multiple citations on sidebands for the FP etalon, you're right. They are passbands rather than sidebands. Thanks for the correction

  • Great series I watched the 6 and will now see from 1. You bring lot of light to the subject. Lots of praise to you my friend. Thanks

  • We've tried to keep the videos really away from the heavy tech end...more as a useful guide for all...hope you like them!

  • @howesnickhowes: The Fabry-Perot etalon does *not* produce sidebands in the same way RF sidebands exist. The etalon produces a large series of very narrow passbands each separated by a certain wavelength interval (the "free spectral range")., so the etalon is sort of a "comb" filter. Blocking and trimming filters are then used to select the desired passband, such as the H-alpha or Calcium lines.
