Love this song's hypno groove. Love it when the snare comes back in. Love the noodly in a good way lead guitar. I've recently discovered Luna and my three favorite songs are this one (whoa, she just sang a wicked cool 7th harmony @ 5:32 !), Pup Tent, and Still at Home. Some of the video looks like it was shot on celluloid. I wonder what the story behind this production is?
for those who doesn't know the title refers to Suicide's concert in Brussels in the 70's that lasted only 23 minutes and turned into the riot and gave a name to their 1978 album "23 minutes over Brussels". Suicide is a NYC electonic protopunk duo. A legend basically...
saw luna for the first time at ferris booth hall (columbia's student union) c. 1995. blew me away. followed the band to many gigs after that, including a summer night in prospect park when they pulled out a cover of 'sweet child of mine' that was for the ages. i miss 'new york's house band', but all things must change.
ps: check out 'tell me that you miss me' a documentary film (from which this clip is taken?) about luna's last tour.
what is like this? they were unique. people always compare them to VU but it's more like what velvet underground could have evolved into if they didn't self-destruct (that is not a knock on VU, i love them also).
You might look for Indian Summer by Luna if you like this song. Sorry you never got to see them, the shows were even better than they look here.
no, these guys are greatly influenced by lou reed & the velvet underground who are awesome! these guys have many awesome tunes and they put on an awesome show. i have seen them and dean & brittas new band as well, good times! everybody try to do positive, be happy and spread it around, we can make this world a better place, music is an awesome influence for positive change...
to ed-u-me-cate all y'all...tom verlaine (television founder & guitarist, also plays on the studio version of this song...a wonderful album entitled "penthouse"...fabulous song and album...there's also a great version of "bonnie & clyde" w/dean & stereolab front-woman/genius laetitia sadier...dean wareham is truly a legend of the indie-circuits...his galaxie 500/luna/britta career goes unheralded...but so does much of the great unheard music of our lives...i implore u to all explore the unplayed
23 Minutes is very similar to Marquee Moon (another amazing jam; Television was another group that deserves much more recognition; the entire Marquee Moon album is worth checking out, especially Friction, where he "plays with his dic...tion" lol
The end credits to a wonderful film. Possibly the best music doc ever made - certainly the best film ever made about touring. Just to be a wise a**: I liked the guitar jam better the first time - when it was called Marquee Moon!
"Marquee Moon" was an album by Television, who came out of New York's CBGB Club (stands for Country/Blue Grass/Blues). The Talking Heads and Ramones also played this sadly defunct venue.
The title song's extended guitar solo has a similar sound to "23 Minutes in Brussels".

@Kaseta72 Yup. Dean talks about Suicide and a bunch of other NYC bands circa 1977 (Television, Richard Hell, Talking Heads, etc.). He was a big fan!

@AudioHollic this is extremely late, but i'd recommend Galaxie 500, Television, the Velvet Underground, the Feelies, and the Dream Syndicate

"23 minutes in Brussels", why?
Well, because it rhymes with tussle.
Amazing ;-)

@vincentlievens I think the song refers to a riot caused by the band Suicide when they played in Brussels; the natives were not receptive.

One of the best songs of the 90s. Luna's signature single. They are missed, but they left a great discography and DVD.

23 Minutes is influenced by Marquee Moon the way a wedding reception band in Kentucky is influenced by BTO.
