I grew up in this town. When I was living here, it was such a busy town. We would have cake walks, festivals, live music, etc. every weekend. It was so much fun! I graduated with 16 people. Me and my friends use to go fishing and swimming in the creek by the bridge. The high school is no longer there. The town is nothing like it use to be..

Looks like Parnell, MO there's almost nothing there and the population is less than 250 and event that maybe stretching it. Good choice of song with "Easy Feeling" by the Eagles but not the original recording.
My mom grew up in Shubuta. Her name is Sallie McDevitt Thornton. Her sister still lives there. There is a beautiful old cemetery there that's a great place to enjoy peace and God's nature.
@smilzeee1 Problem is, the recent brouhaha over Constance McMillen's wish to take her gf to the prom shows the hostility to outsiders and nonconformist insiders that is usually kept under wraps in these small towns until a local stands up to the oppressive climate or some rabble ropuser gets the townsfolk all bent out of shape over the "other." But even so, towns like this are usually more peaceful and less stressful than the full-blown city.
Shubuta, MS my hometown. It's small and all, but I wouldn't have wanted to have grown up anywhere else. Being in the city now, really makes you appreciate the country. Shubuta, MS Home of the Famous Artesion Well!!
Its sad to see a town dry up like Shubuta has. Those new four-lane highways will really work on small towns. We have some land there and I can remember, as a kid, passing through town on the old two lane and stopping at one of those two gas stations to get some fishin bait.
Wow. I'm from New Zealand and this is EXACTLY how I picture small town america (the stereotype from movies and tv shows). I am travelling around the states soon and am really lookn forward to finding little places like this. Thanks for making this clip.
Thank You, for posting this video. My Grandparents were born and raised in Shubuta and I wanted to see pictures of the town and couldn't find hardly any on the internet. So you can only imagine how elated I was when I found this video of Shubuta Mississippi. Thanx again!
I am from Shubuta and that old railroad track sure bring back memories. It was a great place to grow up. Shubuta is one of the smallest towns in South Mississippi with only about 650 people when I was there. It must have grown by now. It is in Clarke County and borders Wayne County.
Hiya, really like your video! I'm Irish and have been travelled in America, & I have to say I love smalltown America so much more than the bright lights of the big cities. Everywhere is getting so dangerous these days that its lovely to see places like these remaining untouched and safe, hopefully for a long long time.
What a dump! Historically only a good place for lynching and cross-breeding....

What are small towns like this, like? Are they the stereotypical deep south towns that the media makes them out to be?

Can you still walk on that bridge or is it too rotten/dilapidated?
Syrinx69 1 year ago
No, it was in really bad shape so the county removed the approaches but the trestle is still there although you can no longer get on it.
