  • I have a psychiatric service dog in training and I love her so much. She's a great help. Without her I would end up having severe psychotic episodes and severe panic attacks in stores and the such, but she is able to warn me when those levels are rising so I can get out of that situation. :)

  • It would be wonderful to have a dog like this.

Right now I'm stuck at home, and dependent on family to do things with me or for me. Just going into any public building alone, my brain shuts down and I have no clue what I'm doing. To have a dog next to me would be a real comfort.

  • Or if you pick a dog because it looks cute and you buy it but it doesn't work out. Not only can that be costly, but it can also be a bit discouraging.

Keep in mind, I don't have a PSD yet, though I am fighting very much so to get one.

  • Hi. This is exactly the kind of dog that I want. I'm not physically handicapped - I just have mental problems. I really want one of these dogs, how much does it cost?

  • @DeaneRenata

The cost can vary greatly. For example, if you have the knowledge, experience and skill necessary to successfully, independently train your own service dog, the cost may be significantly lower than if you were to obtain an already trained service dog from a program. However, it's important to keep in mind that, while some programs charge what seem like astronomical fees for their service dogs, if you owner train with the help of a trainer, the costs will also add up rapidly.
