All I will say is Evelyn ashford is greatest woman athlete ever.. Flo Jo and Ben Johnson had the same coach!!! Hello.. Steroids!!! They both set unheard of world records at the same time and Ben Johnson got caught.. Flo slipped under radar and imediately retired.. No one retires after they get on top.. She set a record 21 years ago that hasn't been touched even by another cheater Marion Jones!!! Evelyn all the way in my book!!

Yes 1987 was the last year of their dominance. The bubble burst in 1988 (coincidently the year random testing was introduced)hmmm a no brainer! When Krabbe and her team mates were subsequently caught in '91,the nails were in the coffin for German track and field strength. I know it amazes me, cheats are all colours shapes and sizes. That is not the issue, the issue is they were cheating in the most terrible fashion and their deeds taint the sport to this day. You're right this was the beginning of the end. In hindsight if you compare the careers of Asford and Gohr, Ashford is exceptional for alot of reasons, One of thing being the unparalled length of time she was at the top of sprinting.

She was around another 4 years after this at 35 running great and winning Olympic Gold. If I could emulate a career it WOULD NOT be Gohr's. Anyone notice how modern day commentators never talk about East German performances in Track , Swimming ect? @RFSA88 ashford did drugs too, they were just more clever with her and didnt go over the top, her and gohr were both guilty but marlies was the greater ahlete as she did 200 aswell and was by far the more unique runner, it comes down to taste as to who u prefer and the record books favour evelyn but she was a drug cheat aswel tho very fast natural runner, she just flowed and was beautiful runner, it comes down to who is faster, the black woman or the white woman and its obv the lack woman

The Canadian and America's learned their methods from the East German coaches. Ashford finish 5th in the Montreal final in 11.24, Gohr finish last in 11.34, but the next year Gohr ran 10.88 that screams drugs.. Ashford's progression was due to hard work .. no short cuts and Evelyn is by far a much better 200 metre sprinter than Gohr.

Man, only 2 years later Kathrin Krabbe, Silke Möller and Manuela Derr won gold, silver and Bronze at 100m in the european Champioships in Splitt. Krabbe virtually flyed over the track marking some stunning 10.90. Later she also won at 200m and Dreschler was silver. Grit Breuer was also gold at 400m and Petra Müller silver. The end youre talking about only hapenned after the collapse of the wall when the GDR disappeared...
