  • Does anyone know the song on 0:48?

  • UM this is wrong. The main note in a chord is not its tonic, it's its root. The lowest note in a chord is not its root, its the bass.

  • If the harpsichord was a guy I'd punch his nuts until vagina.

  • listened to this in music class and i was interested :)

  • i'm learning so much

  • Extroadinary...

  • Fast forward to skrillex bass!

  • 64 ft organ reminds me of a dog growling

  • 64 foot pitch organ is useless and ugly.

  • took em 3 minutes to feature mingus, im proud

  • 64 foot pitch organ sounds like me taking a shit!

  • No mention of infrasonic frequencies below 20Hz

  • I didn't know bass instruments only 400 years old?

  • HOLY CRAP i didnt know ORGAN was that EPIC XO

  • The harpsichord piece is Les Barricades Misterieuse by Françoir Couperin

  • That organ player was so good

  • 9:55 Pussyfootin'

  • the 64 ft bass line on the organ sounds like my stomach after taco night!

  • The series on the whole was great. However, I was quite amazed that reggae was not mentioned in a programme focussing upon the role of bass. Reggae bass sounds and patterns are a massive influence on pop music.

  • Whenever I hear the intro for Also Sprach Zarathustra, my eyes automatically start leaking in a good way.

  • 2:50 "its big, its deep and its powerful" thats what she said!!

  • i wanna know how they make the brown note.

  • Yippee! I missed this one - it's the only one of Mr Goodall's I don't have on tape. Thanks SO MUCH for posting!

  • great...but TOTAL NONSENSE when he talks about BASS being a Western musical/tonality ingredient!!!!!..

  • great...but TOTAL NONSENSE when he talks about BASS being a Western musical/tonality ingredient!!!!!

  • Haha! The organists feet at 9:10 look like they've been taken from the Team America fight scene!

  • @chrisptik LOL how true!!! xD

  • This is really great. I love how he gives so many cool examples of modern music as well as the classics. Very interesting.

  • It'd be sweet, if at the beginning, he had just walked into the camera :P

  • all your bass are belong to us

  • @lesorciercalifornien lmao some one uses fl

  • 08:32 "And some organs hv a slightly silly 64 ft" Nice one XD

  • it so bad that this clip cannot record the actual base played in the music

  • w00t 64 stop

  • Before this video, I actually never connected a run (musically) with a run (physically)! That organist seems to be running out his bass runs on those pedals! XD

  • Lol @ 9:29 the organist looks like a badly controlled Thunderbirds puppet

  • shyfx ironically wihtout bass

  • @mrdotbryce I thought I had accidentally opened another tab, wasnt expecting to hear that!

  • I want to have that organ's babies.

  • Ah look he's got a new break shot.

  • pay attention... bass means the harmonic, melodic and structural relationship of the bass sound to the rest of the piece... not just the sound itself...

  • 64 feet , that's the THX sound of it's day

  • does anyone know the piece starting 4:26 on haprsichord?

  • It's "Les Barricades Mistérieuses" by François Couperin

  • thanks a lot you made my day :D

  • great documentary! the orga part is oh-my-god cool!

  • 9:02 *jaw hits the floor*

  • It should be said, some have an insane, 128ft scale

  • holy shit

  • I LOVE low C!

  • eh, F#0 even more impressive

  • Of course it is. I just have a particular fondness for Low C :)

  • Another fabulous doco. This material is not only invaluable for students, but is presented in such a way it should catch their attention.

This segment includes Richard Strauss' "Also Sprake Zarathustra", Charles Mingus' "Haitian Fight Song, Elvis Costello's "I don't want to go to Chelsea", Saint Saens "The Elephant", even Mation Army "White Stripes", John Williams "Theme from Jaws", Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side", The Supremes "Baby Love".

  • Looks at the importance of tonality in the development of bass. Technology - the organ was the first instrument to provide a deep bass.

Concludes with the dazzling organ footwork of Enrico Rossi's "Etude Symphonique".
