  • I remember as a kid whenever my family would take a trip up to San Francisco, and I would be hoping that I would see the Banana Splits on a trolley or driving on the Golden Gate Bridge. How cool is it that they actually did that?

  • I'm 21 years old, and my grandma used to play this show for me when I was young. I think I turned out just fine...but I'm pretty sure the creators/writers for this show used some type of mind altering drugs.

  • Best. Kids. TV. Theme. EVER.

  • I'm singing along in a Death Metal voice

  • I'm 41 in a month-but still sing along to this happily- it brings back great memories!

  • I'm 38 and I loved watching the Banana Splits when I was a kid. I was showing this to my 4 year old nephew and he loved it! He kept asking me to play it over and over, I could not refuse. Thanks for posting this!

  • got this as my ringtone. funny that people who hear it carry on with the tune lol . great stuff and loved saturday mornings back in 1970. im 45 and this just brings out the kid in me.:)))

  • Fleegle, my brother still has the stuffed doll!

  • My parents showed me this when I was younger and I'm now 16 and still think its absolutely one of the best shows ever, I will be showing my kids this show!

  • BANANA SPLITS FTW!!! WOO

  • psychedelic!!!

  • I still have the 45 of the Banana Split song LOL I loved it!

  • This was a great show and is very fondly remembered by me, even now forty odd years later. I think only one series of programs bettered these guys and that was the incomparable Gerry Anderson puppet trio shows of STINGRAY, THUNDERBIRDS and CAPTAIN SCARLET :-)

  • I saw the Banana splits at a department store in Chicago when I was about six years old they looked really big

  • To restore this is a major project. I wish you the very best of luck

  • The funniest intro saw in my childness... love it!

    From Rome...

  • weird, I watched this show all the time and all i remember is the intro, which even as a child I thought was corny.

  • i soo remember watcing this on sat mornings .at least you can understand them unlike teletubbies c##p

  • Best intro Battle of The Planets

  • Did they film that in Disneyland?

  • @JohnLennon100 No, it was filmed at Six Flags over Texas in Arlington.

  • CLASS

  • i'm such a sucker cuz i love this

  • Correct me if I'm wrong. But wasn't there a live-action show within the "Banana Splits" hour entitled: "Tom Sawyer and Friends", or something to that effect ? I remember having a crush on the Becky Thatcher character.

  • Great old show! I used to come running to the tv when I was a kid and heard that music playing!! This theme song was just on the radio on a flashback program today and it brought back many memories! Nice resoration!

  • Yeah well done on the resto. I actually feel like I have been taking drugs after watching the Banna Splits! A great show that many of us still remember and love after all these years. Innocent times and pleasures that seemingly have disappeared forever. Pity!

  • I feel like i need to be doing drugs to understand this show correctly...

  • I remember somekind of Tarzan episode and I remember the words Oh Oh Chungo and a cuckoo clock.please tell me I'm not going mad!!!!!!

  • @jono546 I think it was a series called "Treasure Island" or something. The guys would yell "OH OH CHONGO!" whenever they needed him to come. I remember there was a professor, or something like that, who had a super hot daughter.

  • @Gorbachenko

    It was called "Danger Island".

  • @Gorbachenko Thanks for your thoughts

  • @jono546 I remember they had the adventures of Huck Finn and they were real people in an animated setting and had injin joe as their enemy. It was pretty sad.

  • @MercuryRis Like me, you need to stop taking thoughs pills.....

  • @MercuryRis Nah you can look the huck finn thing up on here . They have videos of it, I swear. Ma did not put PCP in my Tang!

  • I think if I ever commit suicide it will be in my most blissful moment of listening to this theme song, and also being very fucking high on (insert drug here) Oh yeah :D But I'm not 'cause suicide is gay. Maybe in the moment when (insert police state here) is trying to break down my door for (insert crime/fucktardness/liberty-somethingness here) \m/

  • Thanks for posting this, I love Fleegles vox teardrop guitar

  • I soo wanted a banana buggy when I was a kid... thanks for posting:))

  • I just KNEW there was a longer opening! I'm not old enough to have seen it originally broadcast, but I recall seeing it somewhere. Nice to know I didn't imagine it.

  • Six Flags over Texas for sure,,, that roller coaster is the Runaway Mine Train

  • this show was like an acid trip

  • Gotta get myself one of those six wheeler buggies.........the only way to travel!

  • Yes, King's Island.

  • King's Island ?

  • I grew up during the late 60s and 70s. I consider myself fortunate to have had the benefit of the great kids programs back then. No inappropiate content, unlike todays garbage, which is destroying our kids minds and values. I introduced my 8 year old son to these older programs and he likes them better than the crap thats shown now. You want protect your kids from todays TV? Get 'em hooked on old Saturday morning TV.

  • @fishfast41 Agreed.

  • @fishfast41 ...I can just about remember watching this in the 70's on a saturday morning!

Bloody hell how i wanted to have one of those buggys they were driving!!

  • @fishfast41 I don't think it's inappropriate, I just think it's just stupid, I honestly think the 90's were the best cartoons

  • I'll bet ''anyone'' here..............what theme park was that intro shot from? I know.........does anyone else?........in point if fact, i was there at the time.

  • @ChaosDemonwolf I forgot the name of it, but I believe some of the amusement park scenes were filmed in the Cincinnati area, with others filmed somewhere in Texas.

  • @ctrabs74 ----It looks like Six Flags over Texas during the 1960s when the park are more closely related truly to the Six Flags over Texas. Warner Brothers killed it when they took it over.

  • Love it...I'm 40 but it seems as clear as yesterday - wonderful stuff!

  • This is actually a reconstruction rather than a restoration.

Muttley16 has since posted a complete copy of this (apparently from an old NBC stand-by 16mm print to be used in case something went wrong with the network transmission).

  • its great to see this again - i have all on video and dvd now - Long Live the Bananas.....

  • Brilliant, thanks for posting. People under 40 are probably thinking WTF but hey, who cares! Thanks for bringing back a tiny piece of so many peoples childhood.

  • Hats off to you - this is the only complete version I've seen on YouTube, capturing the full insanity of kids' TV in my youth. Complete madness.

Thanks for posting this, but I need to lie down for a while - nostalgia overload.

  • TRA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA :)

  • Well damn, thats a great job ! You really did a lot of work on this...I wonder how many different sources you had to use for your footage? Really nice--great memories! Thanks!

  • Looks like you put a LOT of work into editing and re-working the video and audio, considering the orginally footage and film stock available, I feel you did a very very good job on production, I am posting and sharing.... Thank you for giving us found Saturday memories :o) TheRokJok

  • @craploginsystem Did you see how Bingo was flying in the air at 1:21 in the Banana Splits pad? How did he do that?

  • ace programme, used to go over to my friends to watch it on anglia tv cos we only had itv in my house, His mum used to hate us watching it but that song really sticks in your head just like the muppets phna mana

  • This song was insane (as in it never leaves your head). The coaster Looks like Gold rusher at Magic Mountain(according to my Partner)

  • For the first season, some of the live action segments (specifically those used during the musical segments) were shot at Six Flags Over Texas, an amusement park located in Arlington, Texas.

For the second season, filming took place at the Coney Island amusement park, located in Cincinnati, Ohio. In many episodes, the Banana Splits would be seen riding on the Runaway Mine Train rollercoasters, Log Flumes, Bumper Cars, Merry-Go-Rounds, and many other rides at Six Flags.

  • I just went back in time to a 9 year old and my big brother was leaving for VietNam.

  • long long ago....

  • First rock song I ever got down with... I hadn't seen this since I was maybe 4; it's a bizarre thing to see familiar images I haven't seen since preschool... Thanks for the post.

Incidentally, this song actually charted; it reached #96 in Billboard in 1968

  • fantasticccccccc

  • I use to love that intro - HUGE!

  • Takes me back 40 years to when all I had to worry about was what breakfast cereal to choose on Saturday morning. Didn't realize how good I had it then.

  • I HEAR THAT TONY!! tell your kids to enjoy their youth and live every day with HAVING FUN!!

  • Has anyone found a clean copy of an Mp3 download of this on Itunes or other venue? I have a copy, but it's not so clean. The video and tune are timeless.

  • It is "fucking restored" because there are a lot of bits in it that are not in the half-hour syndicated versions currently airing on television and this show was originally one hour long with a much longer introduction.

  • Too bad kids today don't have stuff like this. It was just fun and intertaining!

  • Had me glued to the set for the whole hour. About the only time I sat still as a kid!
