I remember as a kid whenever my family would take a trip up to San Francisco, and I would be hoping that I would see the Banana Splits on a trolley or driving on the Golden Gate Bridge. How cool is it that they actually did that?
I'm 21 years old, and my grandma used to play this show for me when I was young. I think I turned out just fine...but I'm pretty sure the creators/writers for this show used some type of mind altering drugs.
I'm 38 and I loved watching the Banana Splits when I was a kid. I was showing this to my 4 year old nephew and he loved it! He kept asking me to play it over and over, I could not refuse. Thanks for posting this!
got this as my ringtone. funny that people who hear it carry on with the tune lol . great stuff and loved saturday mornings back in 1970. im 45 and this just brings out the kid in me.:)))
My parents showed me this when I was younger and I'm now 16 and still think its absolutely one of the best shows ever, I will be showing my kids this show!
This was a great show and is very fondly remembered by me, even now forty odd years later. I think only one series of programs bettered these guys and that was the incomparable Gerry Anderson puppet trio shows of STINGRAY, THUNDERBIRDS and CAPTAIN SCARLET :-)
Correct me if I'm wrong. But wasn't there a live-action show within the "Banana Splits" hour entitled: "Tom Sawyer and Friends", or something to that effect ? I remember having a crush on the Becky Thatcher character.
Great old show! I used to come running to the tv when I was a kid and heard that music playing!! This theme song was just on the radio on a flashback program today and it brought back many memories! Nice resoration!
Yeah well done on the resto. I actually feel like I have been taking drugs after watching the Banna Splits! A great show that many of us still remember and love after all these years. Innocent times and pleasures that seemingly have disappeared forever. Pity!
@jono546 I think it was a series called "Treasure Island" or something. The guys would yell "OH OH CHONGO!" whenever they needed him to come. I remember there was a professor, or something like that, who had a super hot daughter.
@jono546 I remember they had the adventures of Huck Finn and they were real people in an animated setting and had injin joe as their enemy. It was pretty sad.
I think if I ever commit suicide it will be in my most blissful moment of listening to this theme song, and also being very fucking high on (insert drug here) Oh yeah :D But I'm not 'cause suicide is gay. Maybe in the moment when (insert police state here) is trying to break down my door for (insert crime/fucktardness/liberty-somethingness here) \m/
I just KNEW there was a longer opening! I'm not old enough to have seen it originally broadcast, but I recall seeing it somewhere. Nice to know I didn't imagine it.
I grew up during the late 60s and 70s. I consider myself fortunate to have had the benefit of the great kids programs back then. No inappropiate content, unlike todays garbage, which is destroying our kids minds and values. I introduced my 8 year old son to these older programs and he likes them better than the crap thats shown now. You want protect your kids from todays TV? Get 'em hooked on old Saturday morning TV.
I'll bet ''anyone'' here..............what theme park was that intro shot from? I know.........does anyone else?........in point if fact, i was there at the time.
@ChaosDemonwolf I forgot the name of it, but I believe some of the amusement park scenes were filmed in the Cincinnati area, with others filmed somewhere in Texas.
@ctrabs74 ----It looks like Six Flags over Texas during the 1960s when the park are more closely related truly to the Six Flags over Texas. Warner Brothers killed it when they took it over.
This is actually a reconstruction rather than a restoration.
Muttley16 has since posted a complete copy of this (apparently from an old NBC stand-by 16mm print to be used in case something went wrong with the network transmission).
Brilliant, thanks for posting. People under 40 are probably thinking WTF but hey, who cares! Thanks for bringing back a tiny piece of so many peoples childhood.
Well damn, thats a great job ! You really did a lot of work on this...I wonder how many different sources you had to use for your footage? Really nice--great memories! Thanks!
Looks like you put a LOT of work into editing and re-working the video and audio, considering the orginally footage and film stock available, I feel you did a very very good job on production, I am posting and sharing.... Thank you for giving us found Saturday memories :o) TheRokJok

i wonder what some vietnamese kid at the time this crazy shit aired would have thought. This is what these assholes blowing us to hell and gone watch as children?... no wonder they're so fucked...
I can never hear this song again without thinking about Hit Girl wiping out the drug dealers with her Bokken using the banana splits theme song.........lol

For the first season, some of the live action segments (specifically those used during the musical segments) were shot at Six Flags Over Texas, an amusement park located in Arlington, Texas.
For the second season, filming took place at the Coney Island amusement park, located in Cincinnati, Ohio. In many episodes, the Banana Splits would be seen riding on the Runaway Mine Train rollercoasters, Log Flumes, Bumper Cars, Merry-Go-Rounds, and many other rides at Six Flags.
Man...does this bring back memories!!!!! I was 5 years old when this show hit the airwaves in the late 60's..I loved it!! The Banana Splits tune is still stuck in my head today..lol ;)
First rock song I ever got down with... I hadn't seen this since I was maybe 4; it's a bizarre thing to see familiar images I haven't seen since preschool... Thanks for the post.
