  • I agree with gregoryusa1. Bill Evans version of Danny Boy is the most beautiful and haunting I have ever heard.

  • For my ear Danny Boy has never been covered by a jazz artist better than Bill Evans' version. Bill's take became a masters work of reharmonization that supports the melody perfectly.

Bill performs the first chorus in the key of Bb major, but on the second time through he transposes the tune down a minor 3rd to G Major. Using key and tempo changes he creates a dramatic embellishment of one of the most beautiful melodies ever created.

It's on Verve records: Bill Evans, Jazz 'Round Midnight.

  • Bom demais, Diana... !!!! Bom demais!!!! ^^

  • the breathy deep resonance touches deep inside my ♥heart♥

    thank you for sharing

  • Obviously a great song. Happy for those who enjoy this version but I'll take Shane MacGowan's recording of it any day of the week!!!

  • I'm not a piper, not a tin whistler, not a fiddler, not redheaded, but this song makes me weak inside.

  • well i'm not an irishman. As A matter of fact, i'm a black man born and raised in the inner city, but I believe , when done correctly, O Danny Boy is one of the saddest and most beautiful songs I have ever heard.

  • I'm not an Irishman either. I'm some kind of a white mutt from the suburbs. But Oh! I agree with you, black friend from the inner city! I think O Danny Boy is one of the saddest and most beautiful songs I know. Sometimes I can't even bear to hear it.

  • Wonderful voice, but not suitable to the song (according to me, at least!).

I would say much better for brazilian music.

    Anyway astonishing voice....

  • This song belongs to the world. A gift from Ireland. No to war!

  • Im not a fan of non-irish folk singers attempting to stamp their mark on a traditional tune irish tune.. however, i do like this.

Fair play to her. Its not often you'd get a modern jazz/blues singer attempting something like this.

From an Irishman.. i think Diana has done a fine job.
