This was a lip sync version to the song as it was the actual recorded version they done on album. During this time period it was very hard for acts to sound exactly as they did when they recorded the song. Most all TV appearances (in the 60's) were either lip sync or sung over a recorded track to prevent mistakes as the shows were being taped or broadcast live.

I'm not saying they ARE lip syncing but the voice volume is the same despite the fact that he sure does wave that mic around a lot. Mama Cass (Bless her she is the bomb biggetty) is not even facing the mic when the set starts. In fact it looks like she was trying to stomp on a bug behind Michelle. This song came out before I was born, but it's a freaking awesome song and for a short 3 years, so were the Mamas and the Papas :)

No frills, Introduce em in 10 words or less, they sing, Goodbye, and the next act is... boom.... next act.... boom....
