Jesus, why does every vaguely electronic sounding vid have to be flooded with comments about dubstep? This is Squarepusher - widely recognized as one of the most innovative and talented musicians of our time. Dubstep is a movement - one that has nothing, or very little to do with Squarepusher. So please, get over it and go listen to some dubstep, or shut up and enjoy the sounds of the almighty 'Pusher!
This stuff is pretty cool. With all the flashbulb comparisons I've heard, I expected more melodies! I don't get the comparisons between the two, honestly. *goes to check out more squarepusher*
@EmbodiedDespair I'd say it's because The Flashbulb uses a guitar with his stuff, and Squarepusher uses a bass guitar. Also that they're both doing fast breakbeat stuff.
You should check out Squarepusher's tracks "Planetarium" and "I Wish You Could Talk", they're two of my favorite tracks from him.
@ChuChusChannel That's true, but I hear two totally different sounds from them. Square is much funkier and Flash uses more melodies. I can see how people would group that together. Both awesome musicians, though!
@pchumbod It just sounds kind of cluttered and awkward when listened to loud, I had to low it down so my neighbors didn't think I was some emotionless robot re-patterning my brain waves or something.
Even if you aren't too fussed with some of his music at the time of release, it's because you are not ready to receive it. Come back to it at a later date and you will surely see just how awesome this guy is. Every single track he has ever released is a work of genius.
@LIGHTRONIX what about venetian snares, he's canadian, plays in the US all the time. i also saw autechre in chicago two years ago, just gotta watch the websites. Aphex Twin is the real elusive one...
yeah, but the song called Paradise Garage really is how the street of rage 2 ^^. This song remind me other game, called Phantasy Star online for sega Dreamcast hehehe
If Tom has got so many listeners who feel some of his material is excellent and some is so-so, that means he's doing things exactly right by not pandering to anyone entirely. His approach is solid.
YES! I'd much rather have an artist who explored different styles and approaches to music rather than just putting out the same sounding material all the time.
@LeGronk Fucking agreed. Fans can honestly be such tempermental whiny bitches when their favorite artist changes their shit up a bit. I commend every artist who completely switches up their style without degrading the overall quality of their music. New Squarepusher may not be the same as old Squarepusher, but the production value is none the less top notch if you can dig the feel. I think it's funky shit,
@LeGronk that's true. u should never aim to please everybody with ur music.. you can tell he makes his music without regard for fan appeal. if he did everything would still sound like hard normal daddy.
@LeGronk huh? So if I think Kenny Loggins sucks but my grandma thinks he's the bees knees its all part of his master plan? Cant people enjoy music they like without coming up with cosmically ridiculous reasons as to why material some people dont care for is actually done that way on purpose for fear of people liking his music too much in general?!! And all those thumbs up? Seriously? Sorry, I need to go finish my report on why Night Ranger is purposely awful so they dont conform to quality.
Squarepusher was a raver and jazz-bassist. He's a genius. Half of what he's made is experimental shit not worthy of the name 'music' (ok ok ok, that's MY opinion) and the other half is synthesizers, bass guitars and drum samples turned into pure heavenly bliss!
No you're right, you will get maybe 3 gems in a squarepusher album, with alot of dross thrown in. How he can make songs like exiton and accompany it with shit like the vacuum tracks is beyond me.
