Just got skyrim for ps3.. Played 20 minutes before it froze.. Then played 2 hours before it froze again... I think I will check the x box version it's a really fun game

@thetrales LOL here's what I did. Bought it on PS3, got pissed bought a Xbox 360 played Skyrim for a few days noticed the better graphics and performance. I'm happy with the Xbox version. I'm still more happy with my PS3 overall, but Skyrim on PS3 just sucks. I read that 1.4 is supposed to fix it so maybe I'll be an idiot and get it on PS3 again even though I already own it on Xbox. Doubt I will, but I've done worse.

However when you don't install the game on Xbox it looks better than PS3. Since then this issues has been patched and it's just better on Xbox.

@DjDiSiix It's not true, there was texture streaming isssues on Xbox when you installed it on the HDD, when installed it looked worse on xbox and the ps3 version looked better. However when you didn't install it on the xbox it looks better on xbox. Since then it's been patched and it's just better on Xbox. There's sites and videos on youtube about it.
Clear up HDD space and it will run flawlessly. I had 120gb free out of 320gb after d/l demo's and movies and Skyrim came to a crawl. After deleting old demos and movies i had 150gb out of 320gb and it runs like it did on day one.
Save file size has nothing to do with it. If you don't believe me go d/l a bunch of demo's and movies and Skyrim will play like shit, the fix is easy though.
@MaxGronko my xbox360 experienced SEVERE lag problems the first day... im only perhaps like 40/60 hours into the game, and textures and framerate are failing. do you know if it has anything to do with it being 3/4 years old? i thought it would run perfectly on the xbox360 since they made it an exclusive on that platform... @TheMagicPin no it isnt the consoles fault if they fixed it on the pc and 360 then they can fix it on the ps3 the ps3 can handle even more then the 360 but since its harder to program for most developers dont want to put the extra time and effort to make the ps3 version of a game better then the 360 version so they just port the 360 version to the ps3 and most of the time that makes the ps3 version have problems that the 360 version didnt have
@roosteemon No. The resone this glitch happens on the PS3 after the save game goes over 6mb is because that is too much game memory for the PS3 to handle with it's Ram. For reference an xbox 360 has 512 MB of GDDR3 RAM, while a PS3 has only 256MB GDDR3 RAM. It is the consoles fault. Most likely. Nobody actually knows what the problem really is. So once Bethesda figures out what the problem is (which the RAM problem most likely is), they will be able to fix the problem.

@TheMagicPin the 360 has 512mb of shared ram wich means that the ram is shared with the cpu and gpu. the ps3 has dedicated ram wich means it has 256mb for the cpu and 256mb for the gpu plus the ps3s ram runs well over twice as fast as the 360s ram does. so there is little chance that the ram is whats causing all the problems on the ps3s version of the game
@roosteemon However, speed does not mean memory, speed does not compensait for memory. Also the 360 has shared memory, which means that ALL left over ram from one chip can be used on the other, so this way one chip has however much it needs, while the other one gets a boost. The PS3 on the other had, cannot give an extra boost when one chip has plenty of RAM, they are both forced too use 256mb of RAM, even if they have too much, or in this case, too little.
@TheMagicPin refering back to my original comment. they could have programmed around this, so if ram was the issue they could program it differently so that the save files were smaller thus ileminating the problem. so now im done with this argument its been going on to long and im getting bored of it
You can criticize the PS3 all you want, but I have a feeling it's not the system's fault. It seems like Bethesda has some really bad coding on this version. Of course, I play on the superior PC version, but still, that's kind of inexcusable.

I've got a 3.4gh duo with a 2gb geforce here, all ebay parts from the mobo to the power supply to the corsair xms dominator ram, with a 20 inch asus screen and wireless kb/mouse, all cost me about $400 and I don't pay for my games, and I get better FPS on SkyRim with mostly 2k-4k textures, ENBseries, running at max settings, pulls a smooth 60.1 average FPS. Blows any console version out of the water. Pull your head out of your ass.
Get a PC, get tunngle/hamachi/etc, get your games for free, support an open source internet. The best parts of GTA4, Oblivion, Skyrim etc, are all community made anyways. The community programmers unfortunately put corporate programmers to shame (search fonia5 gta4). Most bug fixes are released by the community first (like esburns voice and door fix for skyrim, find it on skyrim nexus). PC users also don't have to replace their fan every year, or get yellow lights/red rings of death...
@philonetic Yes, if I could afford a nice gaming rig, I would certainly choose PC. The good communities and mods are awesome on PC! :). And actually, out of PC/PS3/Xbox, the Xbox is the LEAST reliable system. Hardly any PS3's are plagued with the yellow light. I'm glad I chose PS3 over 360, but I would love to play games on a PC.
Honestly for the price of a new ps3, you can build a PC to run games better, and there isn't a single game on any console that I would play that isn't on PC anyways. Consoles are the reason that we're stuck with crap graphics libraries to begin with, you and your Direct X Box (X-Box) just had to go and boost the new less powerful DirectX graphics (Call of duty, crysis, skyrim, etc) while leaving the better and more powerful OpenGL (open graphics libraries, like Half-Life) to collect dust.
After the patch, the PS3 version of game as been quite fine. It runs around 30fps. However it still has a bug related to some other (perhaps ai, streaming or some ) code. After some hours of playing in some dungeons there will be framerate drops in certain places, like large towns. There was a simple working solution. Shut down the game completely -> framerates back up. Savegams size is now 9 megabytes. It seems that the issue is related to some dynamic data handling that gets things messed up.

Also, the people blaming this on the PS3 are idiots. All of my other PS3 games run flawlessly. Just check God of War 3. This is Bethesda's fault for being lazy and not properly testing and fixing their code.
@AnotherSchmoe God of War 3 doesn't have ONE HUGE PERSISTANT WORLD. It has a bunch of smaller worlds with low-res textures because you can't look close at objects in first person. The cut-scenes are also rendered in greater detail than the in-game engine. Long story short: if you like to play multiplat games, get a bad ass PC or an Xbox 360. Truth.
It has nothing to do with the PS3 being slower (it's absolutely NOT) or the fact that it's an open world and everything to do with the fact that most multiplatform games are designed primarily on the Xbox 360 simply because it's easier to code for and some developers (like Bethesda) are lazy and can't be bothered to port it properly.

Hey, I got a problem when playing skyrim on my ps3. Very often when I want to save or load all options except "help" gets gray and I cant choose them and the game dont autosave either. Then I have to keep playing for a few minutes then I can choose them again. Note that I have no patches at all.
anyone played for long periods with the patch installed? I can't test it myself right now, but if anyone is willing to share if the patch worked or not, that would great.

It doesn't become unplayable though after only an hour of playing like it did before, so I'm a little happy...still irritated that Bethesda hasn't fixed it yet. Juts delaying the issue is not good enough for a game as big as skyrim :/
2011 has been a sword in the heart of the PS3. From the hacking scandal to the dissapointment of the xmas titles (BF3 wont connect to servers, COD3 is uninspiring, and Skyrim is broken). I worry for console gaming now, because I know the next gen wont be much better, with xbox720 being the parents and low income nerd choice due to its cheapness, and once more it will hold the PS4 back.

This is not fake... I got the exact same problem, when my save file got above 13mb the lag got so bad that I can barely walk across whiterun without rageing -.-
me and my brother share one account on my ps3, bought skyrim today, i played it for a good 3 hours, and when he creates a new game, my save just disappears, i know i saved before i stopped playing. so i decided to make a new character..and once i start playing, my brothers save got deleted. anybody knows whats up with this?!
From what I can guess, the reason why the framerates are like this is because of save files getting too large. This is probably due to bad coding by Bethesda. PS3 uses OpenGL 2.8 which is hard to code for, while Xbox 360 and PC have DirectX which is much easier to code for. Bethesda will patch this one way or another.
I had the same problem with my ps3. my save file got to 12mb big and the framerates were even worse than this, i couldnt play it. But i found out if you delete the auto save files, and turn off all auto save features the game runs fine. The only problem is you have to manually save all the time, which is fine until they patch it.
i live in portugal, and i was thinking to buy this game, but now i'm not so sure :x is this a huge problem , the lag? or will they (Bethesda), create a patch that remove this "error".. cause if im going to pay 69.90€€ for it, i need a game that runes perfectly. I dont know if i'm going to buy it :c

@TheMagicPin no it isnt the consoles fault if they fixed it on the pc and 360 then they can fix it on the ps3 the ps3 can handle even more then the 360 but since its harder to program for most developers dont want to put the extra time and effort to make the ps3 version of a game better then the 360 version so they just port the 360 version to the ps3 and most of the time that makes the ps3 version have problems that the 360 version didnt have

@roosteemon No. The resone this glitch happens on the PS3 after the save game goes over 6mb is because that is too much game memory for the PS3 to handle with it's Ram. For reference an xbox 360 has 512 MB of GDDR3 RAM, while a PS3 has only 256MB GDDR3 RAM. It is the consoles fault. Most likely. Nobody actually knows what the problem really is. So once Bethesda figures out what the problem is (which the RAM problem most likely is), they will be able to fix the problem.

@TheMagicPin the 360 has 512mb of shared ram wich means that the ram is shared with the cpu and gpu. the ps3 has dedicated ram wich means it has 256mb for the cpu and 256mb for the gpu plus the ps3s ram runs well over twice as fast as the 360s ram does. so there is little chance that the ram is whats causing all the problems on the ps3s version of the game

@roosteemon However, speed does not mean memory, speed does not compensait for memory. Also the 360 has shared memory, which means that ALL left over ram from one chip can be used on the other, so this way one chip has however much it needs, while the other one gets a boost. The PS3 on the other had, cannot give an extra boost when one chip has plenty of RAM, they are both forced too use 256mb of RAM, even if they have too much, or in this case, too little.

In most cases, though, the Xbox gets better cross-platform support, usually, unless DICE makes the game. Battlefield games on console have always favored the PS3. The Xbox 360 is also capable of good things, and it has a better GPU than PS3 marginally, and offers a pretty decent library of games such as Gears of War and the over-rated but still fun Halo franchise. BTW Xbox ONLY gets the classic Metal Gears, 1 and 2 on that collectors game or whatever, not the next release. MGS4 for example, AMAZING exclusive.

I've got a 3.4gh duo with a 2gb geforce here, all ebay parts from the mobo to the power supply to the corsair xms dominator ram, with a 20 inch asus screen and wireless kb/mouse, all cost me about $400 and I don't pay for my games, and I get better FPS on SkyRim with mostly 2k-4k textures, ENBseries, running at max settings, pulls a smooth 60.1 average FPS. Get a PC, get tunngle/hamachi/etc, get your games for free, support an open source internet. The best parts of GTA4, Oblivion, Skyrim etc, are all community made anyways. The community programmers unfortunately put corporate programmers to shame (search fonia5 gta4). Most bug fixes are released by the community first (like esburns voice and door fix for skyrim, find it on skyrim nexus). PC users also don't have to replace their fan every year, or get yellow lights/red rings of death...

And actually, out of PC/PS3/Xbox, the Xbox is the LEAST reliable system. Hardly any PS3's are plagued with the yellow light. I'm glad I chose PS3 over 360, but I would love to play games on a PC.

Honestly for the price of a new ps3, you can build a PC to run games better, and there isn't a single game on any console that I would play that isn't on PC anyways. Consoles are the reason that we're stuck with crap graphics libraries to begin with, you and your Direct X Box (X-Box) just had to go and boost the new less powerful DirectX graphics (Call of duty, crysis, skyrim, etc) while leaving the better and more powerful OpenGL (open graphics libraries, like Half-Life) to collect dust.

After the patch, the PS3 version of game as been quite fine. It runs around 30fps. However it still has a bug related to some other (perhaps ai, streaming or some ) code. After some hours of playing in some dungeons there will be framerate drops in certain places, like large towns. There was a simple working solution. Shut down the game completely -> framerates back up. Savegams size is now 9 megabytes. It seems that the issue is related to some dynamic data handling that gets things messed up.

@AnotherSchmoe God of War 3 doesn't have ONE HUGE PERSISTANT WORLD. It has a bunch of smaller worlds with low-res textures because you can't look close at objects in first person. The cut-scenes are also rendered in greater detail than the in-game engine. Long story short: if you like to play multiplat games, get a bad ass PC or an Xbox 360. Truth.

Hey, I got a problem when playing skyrim on my ps3. Very often when I want to save or load all options except "help" gets gray and I cant choose them and the game dont autosave either. Then I have to keep playing for a few minutes then I can choose them again. Note that I have no patches at all.

From what I can guess, the reason why the framerates are like this is because of save files getting too large. This is probably due to bad coding by Bethesda. PS3 uses OpenGL 2.8 which is hard to code for, while Xbox 360 and PC have DirectX which is much easier to code for. Bethesda will patch this one way or another.

I had the same problem with my ps3. my save file got to 12mb big and the framerates were even worse than this, i couldnt play it. But i found out if you delete the auto save files, and turn off all auto save features the game runs fine. The only problem is you have to manually save all the time, which is fine until they patch it.
