The build quality is superb! This was made in the UK around 1991 I think. This week I have tried to get it working with a USB-Parallel lead from Maplin for a stonking £25. No drivers would work so it has gone back for a refund. Oh, this is because my computer is a 2003 Apple without the desirable type ports.
I remember my dot matrix.. if i was printing something like that i would set it going and go out for a couple hours.. By the time I got back.. it was done. I tried taking a nap to pass the time, but jesus christ who can sleep with that racket!
At that rate I might as well unpack my old Roland plotter and tape it :-).
Shame I didn't record the moment I nuked my Star SR10 by making it print a full page of black: it overheated, one pin jammed and ripped the whole ribbon and its cassette right out of the printer, also leaving a huge rip in the roll :-). Oh, those were the days..
My god the turtle - I nearly forgot those! I remember the day I first came across one of those, none of the teachers could work it but a bunch of 7 year olds could. What was it - cumana double disk drive, CUB monitor, Epson FX80 printer... good times!
Big thanks for the upload. This vid certainly adds some worthy documentary to the youtube knowledge databank.

That sound bring back memories of me being in the office at school in the 80s waiting to see principal, wondering of I'm going to get paddled.

Awesome! I used to have an LQ500, and that motor driving the head back and forth sounds identical. That kind of tearing sound is similar too...

Just about every A3000 at my old primary school had one of these hooked up to it, or an LX400.

We had BBC Micros. They were still using one at mine in 2004 in the nursary. Simple and fun. With a Turtle if you were posh.

We'd type 'FWD 1000000' and watch it go on and on and on for ages!
I'm going to dig out my old computer kit and do a video plugging it together. Tuning the telly etc!
