I sense that some ppl know the reason for the SOE and some dont, the problem is the Govt has not been clear as to the real reason and if its Crime in general Mr. Panday is right. There is nothing that the Police is doing now that they couldnt do without a SOE being in place, thats regular Police work. For those who say that Soldiers have the power to arrest now, technically they had it all the time, but who is going to charge, who is going to lead the evidence to secure a conviction in Court.

In times of civil unrest, the Army is normally summoned to come into to protect the nation and it's people. If the Army is protecting the nation,and enforcing the curfew, who then should be the ones making arrests?Why then do we need an Army ,or what then is their role in enforcing the law ? The Army is equal if not superior to the Poice in certain ways. Arrests can then be made by the Army, or either one when needed.

Bas, you're misleading the people! How could the police have arrested the bandits witout the SOE? Absent the SOE-Bandits would've been able to move from place to place, evading the cops....with the SOE- Bandits are limited in movement ad therefore subject to easier capture!
