Sure - that Radical is damn fast, but keep in mind it was performing a laprecord trip @ the pure Nordschleife.

The guys inside these Cayman's are racing the VLN-Variant (Nordschleife + GP-Track) and the pace goes on for a couple of hours with heavy traffic (up to 230 cars within the field).

Difficult to compare...

As I recall from the 24 Hour website, 911 GT3RS' finished 1-2, followed by a Viper and then a Cayman. The nearest M Coupe (which finished 5th was 2 laps back.

Ich denke der Cayman hat aufgrund seiner Mittermotorbauweise die besseren Grundlagen für einen guten Rennboliden als der 911er

Aber letztendlich kann ein gutes Team jeden halbwegs vernünftigen Wagen an dei Spitze bringen

Given the same power, a car (Cayman) with about 50/50 weight distribution will easily beat one (911) that has about 40/60 weight distribution due to better balance. That's why Porsche puts more powerful engines in their 911's so their lower model (cayman) won't embarrass it. But I think the BMW M roadster race car will be a better match than an M3 or 911 against this Cayman.

No race engineer, but I reckon it's more than just more equal weight balance. I reckon the weight is also closer to the centre, making it more eager to change direction. Furthermore with the Engine a bit more forward there could be more room for an effective diffuser.

You got it. Of course mid engine cars are more eager to change direction and also less nervous on the rear (oversteer), but the main goal in todays motorsport is downforce. That's why the 997 RSR has a hard time against the F430, because of their better aero. Cayman is the better basis, but of course not wanted by the CEO's to be the factory racer as it's the "low"cost Porsche.

btw, Alzen of the team leading the camera car tried to plant a Carrera GT engine in the Cayman, sadly project ceased...
