Anyone of any size can play receiver or running back. The myth that players have to be massive and strong to play positions like this have been debunked over the years, players of different sizes play the positions and not just succeed but excel. It isn't something that's set in stone, e.g if you're small you're fast but not strong or if you're big you're slow but strong. Look at the NFL today and players in the past and you'll see all combos of players, that's what makes the sport so great.
If you don't put the smallest guy on your team as a WR what the hell else can you put him as? QB? You don't know what the fuck you're talking about. I'm only 5'6 and I'm one of the best freshman WRs in my school. The whole point of a WR is speed, agility, and catching ability. If you put a 6'4 giant as a WR he's gonna be fucking slow and you'll never gain any yardage.
@quantum123100 even though I support you on the fact that you need to be quick, have agility and being able to catch the ball, Randy Moss, Larry Fizgerald, Jerry Rice, Plaxico Burress, Brandon Marshall and some other receivers are all close to the 6 feet 2 height and they gain a lot of yardage per season... just saying...
Da Fuck!! I'm 5,7 and I can Run Any route against any Defender and catch almost any pass, I bet Noone On Your Team Can Keep Up With me Old man...GO HOME!!
Size Definitely Does Matter To Be Categorized As One Of The Best Or To Be Better Than Average . Steve Smith, Desean Jackson OR Randy Moss & Andre Johnson ? Ridiculously Easy
@ThePretty856Boy Steve Smith has more winning seasons that Andre Johnson with a less talented QB squad. Desean Jackson may not be as good as Moss ,but he just completed his second season with 1000 yards or more and now that the Eagles O-line is improving, he'll probably have much bigger numbers.
exemple:big receivers:calvin johnson, fitzgerald or sidney rice, thay can go get the ball in the air but receivers such as mike wallace 5'11 or desaen jackson 5'9 are the best targets of their team because they stretch the field
I think its stupid to say you need to be tall buts its stupid to say you dont need any big receiver on a team. You need big receivers that can go on top and get the ball, you need some slot back receiver which are usaly small quick fast and sure hands for slants and you need WR that can stretch the field,in that case we dont give a fuck about the size the guy need to be blazing fast.
im 14 and 5'3 i dont play cus i wanna wait till hs but i play on my block with high schoolers they put me at wide reciever and kick returner and i score atleast 3 times a day im fast and got crazy ups 4 my size and ima spectacular catcher as they say on madden and i can break a few ankles. but i never played optimist or nothin..... should i play hs
i have a question, it was my first year really playing football (sophomore), i was 14 for 18 in receptions and got 2 TD's...how is this for my first year?
@physicalgrafiti12345 I think by size he is talking about strength. Football coaches use those terms interchangbly. I hope that he is not stupid enough to think that you have to be 6 foot at least. If he is then I would say what about Wes Welker.
I agree with physicalgrafiti, im one of the shortest people on my high school team and i probibly have the best hands. To be a wide receiver know the routes have good hands and run fast.
Yes, but if you are taller that means, if you have a good jump, you can get into the air and catch the higher thrown balls easier. Height also factors in when you do toss plays or plays in which your wide-outs block, typically, the bigger the better when blocking.
Height doesn't mean everything, but it all depends on what style your offense runs. Short passing game with a lot of play action, I would take the possession guys any day.
fuck you, you want size, im 5'5 and i play WR for my high scool team and i am very good thank you very much. you dont need to be tall as long as your fast good at running routes and have good hands.
@schimpanse182 i play outside but the im so fast the cornerbacks cant keep pace with me, and if there in front of me i just out jump them, i have a 40 inch vertical leap.
@physicalgrafiti12345 I'm not taking anything away from you, but he's just saying in general you do want someone with size. Look at the best WR's in the NFL and historically, they're usually tall. He's not knocking the short, he's just saying generally, it's good to have size, but there are no doubt going to be exceptions like yourself and guys like Welker and Steve Smith (of the Panthers)
fuck you, you want size, im 5'5 and i play WR and i am very good thank you very much. you dont need to be tall as long as your fast good at running routes and have good hands.
