  • great vid becky is funny

  • why my outdoor compressor suddenly stop but fan running.there is no supply at the compressor supply

  • @azremyyyyyy The compressor could have one of a few different problems. It could be a bad run capacitor or a bad contactor or the compressor could be bad.

  • We love your videos. While in cooling mode my unit inside and outside freezes up. I test the defrost board with the pins provided on them. It enters into defrost mode and melt the ice. Does the fan has to stop too? Does this mean I have a bad defrost thermostat?

    Thank you.

  • @MrToneAy It sounds like you have a bad check valve in the outdoor unit.

  • How do you feel about a lazy shop stuart ?

  • @fattony123082 I'd get a new shop stuart.

  • Does your Air Handler have a Texas Instruments Control Board?

  • @1912RamblerFan01 It might. I'll have to look one of these days.

  • JAJAJAJJA,SIMPLEMENTE !!BELLA,PRECIOSA!!!! GRACIAS POR HACERME REIR Y GRACIAS A TU ESPOSO POR HACERME MEJOR TECNICO.QUE DIOS LOS VENDIGA.CESAR

  • @CEESCRIBENS Gracias por los buenos deseos.

  • thanks for the videos but I want to ask because the fan condensing unit turns off and on I put a new capacitor will need a new fan

  • I like your videos! like the way you explain thing, plain and simple, keep on going!!

  • @larvajose Thanks for watching.

  • it is true that a gauge reading wont tell you the problem but its preventative maintenance that could save you a compressor or worse

  • @Nathit76 A gauge check won't always tell you what the problem is unless you have an under or over charge.

  • ive always thought of checking the pressure as a favor to the client because while it may leak small amounts of refrigerant you dont know how close to freezing hey could be. nowadays we also have things such as the quick connect attachment to minimalize pressure loss due to pressure checking.

  • Hello i need ur expertise...my ac unit inside my home which is located in the basement has been leaking instead of filtering through the hose and pouring into the reservoir in thfloor...it just leaks every where on the basement floor...which means we r always mopping up the water on the floor..we did have a tech come in but he couldnt find the leak with his wand, so his answer was u need a new unit..pls help what i can try or purchase to fix it myself...thanks in advance

  • @PRODAR1 You might want to check out my condensate drain clearing video. Or the Mighty Pump video.

  • Hi. My ac fuse keeps blowing after working for hrs. Why ? Email me pls. Wasimtiger1@yahoo.com

  • i have a ruud home a/c unit. I am having troubles with it. I have replaced the capacitor twice, the first had been on the unit forever and the second was just bad. My a/c is blowing air, just not cold air. I can hear the compressor clicking on, so i don't think it's that. The engine in the attic turns on, i can feel the vibration from it with my hand on it. I need some advice on how to handle it and possible fixes. HELP!!! from melting in Georgia.

  • @corleonegf1983 I sounds like the compressor isn't really turning. You might want to let the compressor cool down for a day or so and try letting it restart. If it doesn't start then either the run capacitor is bad or the compressor is locked up and is bad.

  • @corleonegf1983 i think what u might have is a freon problem and u shouldn't run the system before u fix the problem because u might brake the compressor because the freon keeps it cool.

  • Hey friend in my case i mostly work with pneumatic controls (RobertShaw vav boxes)

what kind of info can you pass on to me. my issues are mainly trouble shooting VAV

    boxes and Calibrating them.

  • @hlq123 Take good care of the air drier at the air compressor and be sure to correct any air leaks that you might have in the system. pneumatic thermostats and actuators are the worst place for leaks.

  • I respect you a lot Dr.Z. You are an excellent mechanic with great patience. I'm part of LOCAL 787 Refrigeration in Brampton, Ontario, Canada and salute you for the pride you put into your work and the knowledge and workmanship to do so correctly.

    Best Regards a Union brother.

  • @AlboTiger7 Thanks for watching and for the great compliment.

  • Continued from other post.......My Dad had a similar problem and same a/c unit and changed out his circuit board and fan blower capacitor and it fixed his problem. Haven't had time to check out all your diagnostic vids but wondering if you had any immediate thoughts that might come to mind with this emergency issue? Any help is greatly appreciated as we are melting in Sin City!

  • @golfnff I'd suspect something going on with the line voltage at the air handler breaker. Make sure that you're getting the proper voltage. If you're getting the proper voltage then I'd suspect the control transformer or the thermostat.

  • One of the wire nuts had a ring melted around the center of it. I checked for voltage before and after the connection and there was + before and no reading after. I determined that they had used an improper sized wire nut and over time the connection started to arc within (evidenced by burn marks on wire insulation) and eventually made the connection bad. A simple trip into the garage to get the proper wire nuts and about 5 mins labor to cut and re-strip wires fixed my problem. Thanks a lot!

  • @DrZarkloff Post 1 of 2.......Hello Dr. Z. Thanks for your help with this topic. While waiting to hear back from you I was inspired by your video to go and do some of my own investigative work. I went up into the attic and took off the main panel on the air-handler. I looked around for anything obvious and lo and behold there was something that immediately jumped out at me. Continued on second post

  • @golfnff Thanks for watching. Just digging in sometimes will take care of simple problems like you've found. Keep up the good work.

  • Dr. Z Need help badly!!! Out here in the heat of Las Vegas in the nice 105 + temps and my York a/c decided to take a dump on us. It's always at a good time isn't it? Turned a/c on and the system on light comes on and nothing happens. We don't feel any air from vents and don't hear anything at all. Go outside and there isn't a sound and it is dead as a doornail. Anyway, checked breakers and no luck with any change. Continued......

  • @golfnff sounds like it could be the capacitor. Doesn't sound like you are getting any power to your unit. Check the fuse box first but if nothing is tripped it's probably the capacitor. They aren't that expensive and reasonably easy to install. Beware though, you must turn off ALL power before working on electrical parts. If you don't do so, you run the risk of a nasty shock. Good Luck.

  • @corleonegf1983 Thanks for your suggestions. Please see post below as I was very fortunate and it ended up being a quick, painless fix! Thanks for your time

  • Dr. Z , if a pressure switch were to be open would it reset itself or would it have to be replaced?

  • @Alxscode There are manually reset pressure switches and there are auto reset pressure switches. It all depends on which you have.

  • great channel becky laughed my face off!!!!!

  • @jimbola77 Thanks for watching.

  • just to let you know this video was more helpful than the 2,000. i paid to go to the ivytech fast track course, thanks! keep up the great work :)

  • @imcruisin95 Thanks for watching.

  • hi becky you have a genius of a husband! I wish the schools where i live had teachers like him, keep up the vid's DR Z!!!!! YOU REALLY INSPIRE ME!!!

  • @jimbola77 Thanks for watching and for the compliment.

  • I can't thank you enough! I troubleshot exactly how you suggested. I found my issue at the blowing unit inside. I followed back the electricity and found a burned wire to the point of disconnection. The wire came off a safety switch for the door going to the main power line. I replaced the line and later will install a GFI on the line going to the unit.

You saved me so much money. Thanks a million!

  • @slimm9969 Thanks for watching.

  • I have a 2005 Trane XB 10 heat pump that was wired to only run in cool mode since I only needed a AC unit and it was really cheap on craigslist. Problem I'm having is when it's really hot out during the day when the compressor starts up it trips the 20amp breaker. I have replaced the run capacitor but wondering if I need a Trane Hard Start relay/cap kit? Thanks!

  • @slipstream19741 It's possible that a hard start kit could help. More than likely, the compressor is ohming to ground.

  • Doctor..........Thanks for your service ! We all need to save a buck. I have an old TRANE XE80 outside unit. Blew the circuit breaker the other night. Checked the outside shut off. One of two fuses blown. Replaced both fuses and turned circuit breaker back on. Blew BOTH outside fuses. Inside blower OK, Thermo controls seem OK. Have followed your Tubes and hoping its a bad capacitor. Will test. If bad can it be replaced with a Grainger cap (at a reasonable cost) or do I have to get a "Trane" ?

  • @retiredlawman It's not necessary to buy the OEM Trane run capacitor unless it's some really weird rating.

  • time for some new equiptment give me a call if u want some real service!!

  • I would highly recommend you spend some time with a real professional that does this every day. I would suggest to you that a dirty coil can certainly be diagnosed with a gauge. If don't believe me, hook your gauges up to your system when it's running normally, then toss a towel over either coil, inside or out and watch your gauges carefully...you'll learn something new. if both units are running on arrival gauges should always go on first. Gauges are your #1 diagnostic tool on a running unit.

  • Dude, your so full of it...Gauges should be the first thing you connect if the unit appears to be running, if you use the proper gauges properly you don't lose ANY gas. Will call more BS after I watch the rest if I can stand it.

  • @beaminone wait wait the end is really worth it!

  • About how much did the T-stat in the video cost you?

  • @fastzombie1 Nothing. I got it from Honeywell for making a review.

  • @DrZarkloff that's cool, what did you review?

also, what do you think of this t-stat, we are thinking of replacing our with this one

    Honeywell 7-Day Programmable Thermostat

    Item #: 300976 | Model #:RTH7600D1022

its available at lowes i could not put in the URL D:

  • @fastzombie1 I've never used the 7000 series thermostats. It looks like a good one, though. I did reviews on the Honeywell 8000 and the Honeywell Prestige.

  • Question? My outiside unit, the condenser it not running and I checked ans my " timer delay PC Board its not kicking in sending the 24vac to my contactor, can I bypass it and not used it? Thanks

  • I watch your videos all the time. I'd like to know if there is a possibility to have a video on superheat and sub cooling. Thank you very much for such a good heart of teaching.

  • @lolly2cute Thanks for watching my videos. I have videos where I check the superheat on my air conditioner using the Fieldpiece HVAC Guide and I show how to check the subcooling with the HVAC Guide in another video.

  • Hi, i have a lennox hvac system. The system will work on heat but wont when you turn the thermostat on cool, do you know what we might can check to find out whats going on.

  • @katyperryfan8865 Do you have a heat pump or do you have a straight cool system with a gas furnace or electric heat strips?

  • you checked continuity across your pressures switches on the outdoor unit with line voltage disconnected but you still had low voltage applied to the control circuit. i know this because i can hear the contactor buzzing. you cannot ohm an electrical component with power applied, you will damage your meter and the reading is inaccurate. you also need to isolate the component from the circuit to get an accurate reading because with it in the circuit you can get a backfeed, aka false reading.

  • Hey Doc, I hope you will make a video about changing the wiring on motors that are 208/230 to 115 volts. high voltage to low voltage. I always have a problem with this. Thanks, keep up the great job you do making these videos I have learned so much from these videos!!!!

  • @keeekeeed Thanks for watching.

  • Dr Z I have a Bryant Heat Pump, When I turn the unit on I get heat right away from the emergency heat, however the compressor and fan on the outside condensor are not running, my electric bill has went through the roof. I switched the unit over to Cooling and the compressor and fan outside run and cold air comes from the vents. In the heat mode I can manually depress the compressor relay and the compressor starts and so does the fan. What should I be looking for and in what order?

  • @boatinghowto Do you have a heat pump or a straight cool system. If you have a heat pump then it sounds like you're having some sort of problem with the reversing valve when it goes in the heat mode. If you have a straight cool system then it's running good.

  • @boatinghowto Sounds like your wall thermostat is set to emergency heat or there is a problem with the wall thermostat.

  • @boatinghowto Sounds like your wall thermostat is set to emergency heat or there is a problem with the wall thermostat.

OR, you have a pressure switch open. Freon low, or indoor coil is very dirty. Try turning the wall Tstat to COOL, if it cools, then you can rule out freon.

    Just my guesses.

  • @GunsmokeNC you got it gunsmoke, I finally called a company to come out after I ran out of ideas. The thermostat was bad and the company that installed the brand new unit 3 years ago wired it incorrectly.

  • @boatinghowto Glad you got it straightened out. BTW, I see you are into boats. I was a tugboat captain for a few years before going into HVAC. Not quite the same as yachts. But I did have to dodge many yachts over the years! lol

    Take care.

  • @boatinghowto sounds like the contactor isn't pulling in.

  • MY HEATHERS IS NO BLOWING HOT AIR IS NO THAT HOT,WHAT CAN THIS BE THE PROBLEM,I HAVE ELECTRIC HEATER

  • @discomovilvip It sounds like something is keeping the electric strips from working. It could be a faulty limit switch or sequencer or contactor or for that matter, the heat strips could be blown.

  • i have a cool room , and every time the weather is really hot , the motor that cools the cool room , shuts off ... i have to manually press the reset button to get it to run again

is there any way for me to prevent the motor from shutting off during hot days ? , or is my only alternative is to get a higher horse power unit? or multiple units for the cool room ?

  • @tnt2001 Clean the coils.

  • What brand is your heatpump?

  • @js0009 It's a 10 SEER Amana.

  • Great vid. thanks.

  • you got guts lady, have fun

  • I'm working on a split system, I'm unfamiliar with the external control boards that read " Model ZCV2 2 zone HVAC control unit ". Got 24v going into the units ,nothing coming out .On the downstairs thermostat red and green are tied together and in the red slot , I'm assuming this is a lead to the upstairs thermostat. In either case no power at the thermostats..any clues? and I have found all fuses in good shape...

  • @gdpiker1 I'm not familiar with the 2 zone system that you have.

  • I 'm RVDA certified, A local heating and air company charged my fatherin law $800.00 to fix his furnace. It hasn't worked since the guy brought his cowoker or buddy came out several times according to my father in law. I'm comin in on the back side of this with my experience I find the ignition board 2 be bad the diode in what we tech's call a DSI board Moast of the techs in my field have a Fenwell board tester is there such thing in the HVAC world or where can i see ur video for that? thanks

  • @pinkfeet970 Sorry, I don't have any furnace videos.

  • Dr Z I have a problem with a unit my Delta T is around 10 ..my suction pressure is 85 psi my head is around 210... Ive cleaned both coil's ,,,evacuated and re charged ,,,still no good ..pumped down to 1 psi to see if valves are bad could it be the filter dryer ?

  • @luxaire350 It sounds like your compressor valve reeds are bad. I'd replace the compressor.

  • @luxaire350 I know this is a month ago and I hope you have figured this out by now. If not, is it a TXV or piston? TXV could be bad - stuck in an open position. If it's a piston and it will pump down then you have a mystery. Be sure to have the correct piston.

  • ok thanks

  • I sorry, but this is just unprofessionally done. I've enjoyed the more informative ones.

  • Thanks for your vids, I'm starting school for HVAC this month and I'm 35. Any word of advice you can give and what tool I should really need. Thanks again man.

  • @seabass3211 Congrats on making the decision to make HVAC your career. Your instructor will probably tell you what hand tools you'll need.

  • There is much worse things she could do!!!!

    Thanks!!!

  • these people are just crazy and love to take up my time with putting on their little skits

wait until his wife gets on she thinks she is a comedian and I have not figured him out yet and won't because no more viewing you!!

  • DO NOT flip an A/C breaker on if it is tripped! You should call a licensed HVAC technician to trouble shoot the problem. When a breaker trips it is for a reason. Find the reason it tripped before re-tripping the breaker. For example, if a grounded compressor tripped the breaker, then you could blow the freon charge by re-tripping it.

  • big girl

  • your wife is nutty on this video

  • @deyenak1 If you think that she is nutty in this video, you need to check out her channel DearestBecky.

  • @DrZarkloff too werid for me

  • WTF IS GOING ON AT THE END THIS VIDEO!!!!....ANYWAYS REALLY GOOD INFO ON YOUR VIDEO VERY HELPFULL AND VERY WELL EXPLAINED.

  • Thanks for posting your videos. I'm a electrician by trade but have always been fascinated by HVAC. I use to listen to cooltalk online before discovering your videos. Installed my own complete system and I got certified on refrigerants. Saved a ton of money. I'm grateful for learning more. I service my families systems.

  • @cruz47144 Thanks for watching.

  • HI DrZ, I have looked at all your videos to try and fix my outside unit a 3.5 ton Ducane split AC. The condenser stopped running ( heat pump ) it was not heating the AC guy came out and snipped the two HIGH pressure wires and tied them together the only way it would come on connect it and the little spring switch wont engage. The problem is the High pressure now overheats and stops cooling I have had three guys out and they cant tell me what to do any advice ? i ran the heat and temp drops to

  • @mxdunksdad You really should replace the bad high pressure switch. You might want to clean the coil in your out door unit. It's easy to do. Just turn off the power to the unit and use a hose to clean the coil. Coil cleaner isn't always a necessity unless the coil is really a mess. It is possible for a dirty coil to be why your condensing unit is shutting down on high pressure.

  • Dr. Z is a great HVAC/R. The problem I had with this video is that it jumped/skipped. I was trying to very closely follow but the video seemed to jump and I may have missed something critical to know. I appreciate Dr. Z.

  • @jrm1559 Thanks for watching.

  • I was just told by my Instructor to always put the gauges on and check the pressure.

  • Good points. I agree that you should not automatically put the guages on a system that is not running. Great video. I'm a hvac student with 3 months to go until I complete the hvac program at my college. I just got my universal and I'm looking to learn as much a possible. Keep the videos coming.

  • @Tyrone7994 Thanks for watching.

  • oming out the high and low dude you need to disconnect from the board as this will return false readings

  • @vector00234 when checking the HP switch and LP switch, do you have to disconect both wires or only one?

  • have to admit im guilty of that one. im quick to pull out the gauges

  • Dr. Z Truly a good video on how to troubleshoot a heat pump/air handler. im in the HVAC program at my schools vocational school this really helps me catch up to the shops standards troubleshooting is a big part of it so thanks for the help!

  • @DCGamer92 Thanks for watching.

  • great video keep them coming i learn more from you then i do from my apt supervisors and my school

  • @handyman0587 Thanks for watching.

  • You are the man Dr Z. Fist bump.

  • @mike111777 Thanks.

  • your the best

  • no matter what you go out on a service call for....you always check freon level....thats the rule no matter what....if its electrical fix the problem than check freon....the amount of freon that you loose from removin your gauges does not affect the system unless you are workin on window units or refrigerators....

  • Dr. Z you are a excellent guy, actually you are the best teacher that I have seen.

Clear explanations and very humble person.

    I like you very much.

    God bless you Dr. Z

  • Thank you very much. That means a lot to me.

  • Thanks Doc, your videos mean alot to me as an HVAC student, I learn alot

  • Thank you very much for watching.

  • thanks DrZarkloff, very educational video. you are a good guy

  • Thanks for watching.

  • Dr. Z could you please use a circuit diagram simultaneously with the practical unit.

  • I do have a couple of wiring diagram videos. I'll make more in the future.

  • so doc you ever get tired of these people trying to get you to tell them how to fix there unit i do! hey you cant fix your own unit your not qaulified to do folks these videos are to help people in or who are thinking about going into the feild, but go ahead a trash your unit and pay more then you would have had to in the first place whatever

  • Actually I like questions. It actually helps me to learn more, too. However, most people really should get a qualified tech to work on their HVAC systems.

  • Your the best Dr Z thanks 4 all the vids keep em coming

  • Thanks for watching.

  • please help me understand about heat pump

5 kW to 21 kW electric heat element at airhandler using 115 v w/ 20 amp breaker??? thank

  • You might want to check out my "HVAC Electric Heat strips" video.

  • when will you post the trouble shooting part 2? Thank a thousand...

  • Thanks for asking. I have to make it first. I'll get to it when I can.

  • Comment removed

  • your an asshole this dudes on here sharing knowledge and u ruining it

  • man,,,i do not want to see your wife telling boring jokes,i just want to see you information about HVAC

  • then read a book

  • thanks very informative honestly i learn more from you then my instructor keep up the good work

  • Thanks for watching.

  • For Jim's wife- Dearest Becky, @ 8:00 Sounds like Daddy's Compressor needs cleaning! , Thanks for sharing!

  • I plan to replace my air conditioner as soon as Obama's appliance stimulus package starts up.

  • DrZarkloff , I'm afraid the Stimulus falls somewhere by the ole' saying "doo doo in one hand and wish in the other and see which one fills up first." Just maybe we will get a appliance stimulus package ,..... we always have HOPE!

  • Thanks. I'd sure like to be able to take advantage of the appliance stimulus package.

  • how do you post the video at 8 mins

  • if your asking how to link a certain time in any video -just type whatever example--> 3:00

  • dr z what i meant was you made a hvac troubleshooting part 1 but none of this was for commercial units

  • I'll try to get around to the part two as soon as I can. Thanks.

  • can you do a video on a commercial unit like trane

  • I make a lot of videos with commercial sized units. I have Trane units new and old. I do what I can. Thanks.

  • Im glad a guy like you has come on youtube, to help students like me.

  • Thanks for watching.

  • hey DrZarkloff, Can you read Amps with that multimeter on this video, field piece.

In case you want to read Amp draw on the compresor, or something else.

How much it cost a field piece multi meter????? or what price it is reasanoble.

  • A good HS36 will run you a little over $100.

  • nice video again, In my little experience I have notice that 95% of problems are electrical or electrical devices going bad or not functioning.

  • Thanks for watching.

  • haha nice to see someone using the new honeywell HD t-stat..id like to know if you could send a video signal from that to your hd tv..

  • Thank. I don't think that it's possible to send the signal to my television.

  • In your troubleshooting video you walk up to the outside unit and say make sure it's in cool mode or heat mode. Can you tell that by feeling the air the fan is blowing? What is cooling and heat mode.

  • Yes. Like I explained in the video: warm air will blow out of the condensing unit when it's in the cool mode and cold air will blow out of the condensing unit when it's in the heat mode.

  • you've become my personal teacher

  • Thanks for watching.

  • the freezer temp is very inconsistant

  • dr z i have a commercial freezer i can get -1.4 degrees and sometimes 26 or higher and this is not when in defrost what could this be ?
