How do buy a horse from a feed lot. Or a free horse from the feed lot since there going to kill it anyway i would love to take aleast two off there hands
I didn't see any abuse? Animals die in transport & etc, it happens. You can't stop slaughter of any meat animal, including horses, BUT we in the USA can try to keep our own animals from being shipped overseas. By adopting from rescues, by not over breeding!!!, by injection or bullet euthanasia when the time comes. It's called taking responsibility, and being responsible. Horses are very hard to slaughter humanely, and they are our pets. Do the right thing, people!
It amazes me the amount of people who judge others! I love my horse's, certainly wouldnt send them to a feedlot but ask yourself if its ok to slaughter cattle that you grow to know over the fattening period then whats the difference? just because you dont sit on there back doesnt mean you dont owe them the same respect. Its just a part of life. Important bit is treat all animals well until there time is up. If you dont like it stop eating meat, dairy products and having pets for your amusement
@doublelranch1 owning a pet and killing an animal are two entirely different things. Don't group them together like that it makes you sound ignorant. Yes, certain types of pet ownership is abuse but if you measure the stress levels of a stray dog and a dog in a good home you'll find the dog with the good home is much less stressed and much happier. Saying that owning a pet is the same kind of abuse as killing an animal to eat is implies that animals are not social creatures.
People who approve of hose slaughter... should be the ones who have to look into the eyes of the hose when its killed. This country was built on the backs of horses.... Look how badly we have betrayed them. It makes me sick.
ok weather horse slaughter is ethical or not it has been made illegal in the united states so these ppl send them over borders to have it done in my opinion they are still violating the horse slaughter laws by even raising them for slaughter in the united states. I am not an animal rights activist i am a cowboy who has had my life saved a few times by my horse. sorry i dont see how its cruel here all i see is a bunch of horses on a feedlot they all look healthy and as far as the dead ones go if you have livestock you are going to have died stock thats just how it goes
@imfarmraised I see your point if you were talking about livestock but you arent theres a big difference. We are talking about horses not Livestock and even then the livestock that we keep in feedlots are in very cruel and inhumane conditions. We eat meat but not HORSES because we are American and we respect the horse for what it has done for this country and still does in service to mankind. I guess youve never owned a horse or known their Love and trust.
@christinaeu1994 well i hate to inform you that i do own....lets just say a few horses and i understand i got horses i wouldnt sell for the world, but lets be honest its better for em to be like this then starved or just put down at least cause no one can afford em......and the conditions in most feedyards arent really that bad trust me i know from experience...and finally how are horses not consider livestock here in America??????
@imfarmraised Ok well I think that if you honestly care about your horses as you say you do, then when you have used them up and they are no good to you anymore then EUTHANASIA would be what they deserve not being hit in the head, knocked out, hung by their legs, and their throats slit. I live on a farm and we raise our own livestock to eat and believe me there is a big difference between cows, pigs, chickens, and our horses. When the cattle get out we dont ride our pigs to go get them. LOL
@christinaeu1994 well i guess i just dont see the differance in euthanasia and processing them for meat i mean a stun bolt in the head is painless when done right........i mean it would roughly cost 480,000 dollars to euthanasia all these horses and besides euthanasia isnt painless most of them cause heart attacks and cause paralysis to kill em???????
@imfarmraised I see a Really Big difference and we have humanely euthanized over 5 horses in the years we have owned horses and they all passed away with us holding and petting them. It is harder for the horse owner watching their best friend and companion die but at least they died with dignity. The cost per horse with the farm visit is around 85.00 per horse and to have them taken by the dead wagon they charge $50.00. Bolt guns dont always work and everyone knows that. So do the right thing!
I agree with you, I mean really feedlots: the horses there are with their buddies, fed well, live decently long lives. No abuse in the good feedlots(which is majority of them) . And all I got to say is the horses may be all cute and fuzzy, but I dont know anyone willing to keep 1600 head of horses, just to train and sell to people to be ridden. Its just like cattle, and I mean if you go to a feedlot Im pretty sure if you talk to the owners, Im sure they'd be willing to sell you a couple of them.
Each foul that is born at this facility is already dead; the owners of the facility will not sell them at auction or to locals around the area that are willing to help them. Each little baby horse that is born at this facility is taken from is mother when she is to be sent to slaughter. The mothers have already been sold to the canner, so what if she has a baby? She is scheduled to leave at a certain time and the fouls cannot be weaned until they are at least a year, leaving them to starve.
I really don't see how it's so different than cows that's how many of them live and no one does anything about that. The cows that you get your burger from live in conditions much worse than that.
There is a difference between a horse and a cow, for one thing horses help the ranchers of America, they help people get places, and they provide unconditional love to whomever loves them.
No the horses in these pictures and in these videos don't look that bad, but is it really right to put over 2,000 horses on 3 acres? do you know how much land that isn't?
The real problem is the fouls, do any of you who have posted know what they do to them? No I bet not!
@KTFarmgirl umm ya i kinda know how much land that is. Ive spnet quite a bit of time in Shelby and my family also owns a ranch and just because they get people places doesnt mean they are anymore special than a cow. Im pretty sure my family knows that horses help ranchers considering we are ranchers and they make four wheelers to do that too. This feedlot gives money and jobs to many people and god gave humans the power over animals to use for what we want or need.

i think this is horible these animal angels could be helping stop this horible horse slaughter, i mean the horses arent even bad they look perfectly fine, but i think this needs to stop, we could be out there saving these inocent animals instead of making these videos. Beoches!!
Horses were on this continent long before human beings and they have more of right to benefit from the earths grass than cattle (which were imported from europe). Go back to europe and take your cattle with you!
togemahgeshig sieriously??? did you really just say that? i hope your jokeing do you know how retarded you just made yourself sound right there? humans are at the top of the food chain babe and ill be damned if me or anyone else is gunna pack up and leave and go to fucking europe of all places cuz the god damn hoarses were here first
This insnt outlawed becuase its the right thing to do. It isa sad thing. But would you rather see those colts&horses being starved to death and uncared for? Sometimes owners cannot care for their horse& sometimes they have to much horses& they cannot sell slaughter is the only option. More horses means more grass, grass grows very slowly and hay costs alot of money and sometimes people cannot afford it. Slaughter is the way, their are always more horses every spring so whats lost?
Alright i wana set somthing straight because no one else will, Montana is not the only place that kills horses!!!!!! fuck you if you say montana is "the horse killing state" and this feedlot isnt even that bad theres not even that many horses and how is it diiffernt from cows we do the same thing with them that canada does with horses infact i wouldnt mind trying a horse burger. i live in shelby and in my opinion the only bad part about the lot is on windy days the whole town smells like shit
Your right, lol I live in East Glacier. Ive been up to that slaughterhouse a couple times. I felt bad then my dad told me to look at it from a different prospective. I love horses, their my favorite animal but they set and eat all day and some horses you dont have use for, you cant sell them cause everyone has to many. So ship em to the slaughter house what else can you do? Cant let them eat your grass up and waste away.
What else you can do is be RESPONSIBLE!! You shouldn't have animals that you can't take care of. Animals are not meant to just be disposed of when you no longer have use for them. If you loved horses, and were a responsible animal owner, and had a horse that you no longer needed, then you would do what's necessary to find it a new home.
It happens to all sorts of animals soon as its horses its terrible I farm and have 2 horses if they were lame or ill and if the medication was alot it would be gotten rid off the same as anything else. I dont think it should be banned these are obvousily unwanted horses so why not do somthing whith them constructive if it feeds people whats wrong ?
Are you kidding me?! The meat is not going to feed starving people or something, where perhaps it could be doing some good, but rather it's being sold VERY expensively in Europe as a delicacy!
It aint sick minded. Whats would be sick minded if the colts grazed out your fields and you couldnt sell because no one would buy then you had to pay extra money for a horse you had no use for and they where eatin your money up. Thats sad and sick minded. You people are fucking stupid. Argue with me. Id love that. I like horses but theirs to many and they foal every spring which brings up the population which means more grass. Common and argue you stupid fucks.
What's really sick minded are the people are people who allow their horses to foal every spring if they can't afford to keep them or bother to find homes for them. It is "sick minded" to not be a responsible horse (or any other animal) owner and keep it from being impregnated if you can't care for them. Slaughtering is NOT a solution for people who have problems with horses "eatin your money up" just because they keep allowing them to get pregnant instead of keeping mares separate from studs!!
WHAT THE HELL????People should be arrested for this, and I dont get why the flip people would DO THIS!!!!!!!!!they're just low life animal killers.if i would have known this was happining,i would have told my aunt not to sell her horse to that place D": now im pissed because of this vid -.-
For what I think, this needs to end, I have to horses myself, and cannot think of why the hell people would act like this. We, as people were not put on this planet to do this. We were not born to be monsters and kill these poor creatures. These are god's creatures, he put on here for our eyes to enjoy, not our taste buds. Horses are the animals that have drove us to victories in the jousts, and gave us a shoulder to cry on when we are sad. May god bring them a more peaceful death, not a brutal1
I hate seeing this sort of thing, but I agree with onerealprincess... there is a need for the slaughterhouses. Seeing foals there just isn't right. I think more efforts should go to maybe rules and regulations on breeding horses. That could put these places out of business.
I used to live in Shelby, MT and every morning, riding the bus to school, we would be coming into town(yes, this is right outside the town) and the smell from that place would make me want to puke! Great memories form Shelby, MT!
I know... The fact that these people aren't going after operations where cattle or any other animals are processed with the same vigor just shows their hypocrisy. They fight on behalf of horses because they are "close" to us, in the same way the fight on behalf of "cuddly" animals only.
So what else do you do with a lame horse? You can't "fix" it, so do you just let it suffer? Do you kill it, and do nothing worthwhile with the carcass? Meating is the best thing one can do!
You obviously have not seen the many other videos. No hypocrisy at all.
Horses are bred to large numbers by who? People. Then they say "oh well" and dump them. Here is a fraction of the unwanted. They should have bought a motorcycle or new tv instead.
Gee, who knows what I even wrote? Looks like jcaramante doesn't like differing opinions, so they erased my comment.
So if there is a proportionate number of other videos from this user dealing with cruelty of other animals, including the ones that AREN'T so beautiful or cuddly, then where are they?
Now mactine2k7, you seem to fancy yourself as a genius, so tell me: what do you do with a horse that is lame? Let is suffer? Do nothing constructive with the body? Answer please.
You obviously didn't read any information on Animals Angels or watch any of their other videos. There point is not necessarily about horses going to slaughter, but the inhumane treatment of all animals (from chickens to horses and everything in between, including cattle). And...gee...there are other options for a lame horse!
"from chickens to horses and everything in between, including cattle"
Oh really? So where is the video covering snails, and how brutally they are stepped on every day? What other animals do you spend your time "defending" as much as horses? Crickets, perhaps....I can hear them about now....
Well...gee...you say there are other options for a lame horse...but...gee...you failed to name even one. Go on and answer my original question: what are these "options". Answer please.
umm...I didn't realize that snails or crickets would be considered creatures between chickens and horses nor market animals receiving inhumane treatment.
Oh you HYPOCRITICAL BASTARD! You don't think a snail feels pain when you step on it and crush it's shell? You don't think that's inhumane treatment, even if it's an accident? What - does someone have to MAKE MONEY before it becomes inhumane? What is wrong with you?
I guess you just like pretty animals, like horses, and screw all the rest of them, eh? You make me sick.
You're too funny...and obviously not too smart. Last I knew, snails and crickets were not between the sizes of chickens and horses. I also have never seen them be used as a market animal in a situation where people BEAT them. Accidentally stepping on a snail is not quite the same thing as intentionally beating and inflicting harm on any living creature. Intentionally making any living creature suffer is inhumane and wrong.
I, personally don't think turkeys are beautiful, but I don't think that they should be tortured either. If you'd take the time to look at Animals' Angels web site, you would see that they advocate for treating ALL of these animals humanely whether they're being sent to market or not. Although, unfortunately, some people do consider ignorance to be bliss.
Well gee, I looked at your youtube page, and all I see are videos about horses.
Rather than me going sifting through your website looking for it, why don't you send me a link to the page that clearly shows "Animals' Angles" showing just as much concern and activism for the welfare of SNAILS as horses... You know more snails get killed by carelessness than horses go to slaughter...plus, they suffer more getting crushed than a horse getting switched on the rump while being moved along.
OH now it's about the SIZE of the animal. Only an animal between the size of a chicken and a horse can feel pain?
And what about beating horses... You think they take these horses through Shelby so that mean men can beat them all up and otherwise torture them? I'm sure that's exactly how you want the picture painted, but guess what: a lot of these horses die up there because they are already lame or sick which is WHY THEY ARE THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
Regarding a lame horse, if there is no other option, a responsible choice could be to have it euthanized. Sending a horse to slaughter, where in it is going to suffer inhumane treatment in the feedlot, is not a constructive way to dispose of an unwanted or lame horse. I really don't see how sending meat to Europe, where it is sold for approximately $18/lb is considered constructive disposal of the body. If it were going to starving children somewhere, perhaps, but that's not the case.
Oh okay, so you must kill the horse and do nothing at all with the body instead of doing something positive with it? I guess you must think the indigenous people of this country were in the wrong, because they would kill a buffalo and use every part of it instead of killing it while riding past on a train like the white man, eh?
Oh and are you okay with them standing in a feedlot if it were going to starving children afterwords?
Wow! I actually feel sorry for your stupidity! Nothing that you're saying even has anything to do with the issue at hand nor is it even a relative comparison.
QUIT DODGING MY QUESTION! It's entirely relevant, so here it is again: are you okay with them going through a feedlot if they are on their way to feed starving children?
Also, explain why selling horse meat is not a constructive thing to do with a horse you can't do anything else with, but wastefully disposing the body after euthanasia is. GO.
I would think horses are unsafe for human consumption because some medications used on horses is not safe to be used on animals for human consumption.
@randommagnum most of these horses aren't raised to be killed for meat. Cows and pigs are raised for that specific purpose. And when a horse is lame, sometimes he can be helped. And if he can't, he is humanely euthenized. Not shot in the head and hung upside down still concious so someone can slit him open.
@kaymm93 Why would it matter what purpose they were raised for? Does that make it less ethical? That's like saying it's okay for the cows and pigs, because they are expecting it or something. Believe me, if a lame horse can be helped, it will be. It's hard to help a lame, aged horse though. When it's shot in the head, it's no longer conscious. That's the most humane way to euthanize a horse — it's instant.
@kaymm93 Well hell.. Can you say anything different about cows and pigs? You know it's not like they TRY to put them through suffering. Stuff happens.
@randommagnum I know, I know - I'm not saying they try to hurt them. I'm sorry you're misunderstanding me, I can't explain it. Nevermind, settle down. :)
The AQHA was instrumental in getting a bill passed in Illinois that will allow them to open up a slaughterhouse there, with NO ability for anyone to try to fight it in court. They are CELEBRATING this "victory" & are now setting their sights on defeating HR 503, which would end slaughter once & for all. Write & call your govt reps and make your voice heard for these precious animals. HR 503 MUST PASS so this nightmare for the horses will finally end! BE THEIR VOICE! They NEED you!
oh god, seeing those foals just ripped my heart out, by the end of this video im in tears :( its just fucking awful taking something as precious as a life from a creature so beautiful and that we as humans are privilaged to have them in our world
is animals angels like peta? i want to join a vigilante group that actually goes into places and beats these assholes up with bats. i guess i would get arrested but if there was no law i would consider going after these people
I'm from Germany and I donate to Animals Angels regularly. In my opinion, they are not like Peta. No spectacular actions, they document offences against (existing) regulations of animal protection and make them public. They cooperate with the police and public authorities to enforce the law. I comprehend your anger but you will not change their minds by beating them, too. Make them aware of what they do or don't do.
what a positively huge waste,,,such beautiful animals. and the sad part is, that there is actual need, yes, i said it, for slaughter houses, because what we fail to see is taht alot of these horses (not all) were abused or came from homes where they were unwanted. at least, when they give their lives, they help feed the hungry. dont get me wrong, i LOVE horses. but there are two sides everyone fails to see
when i get older i am going to stop horse slaughtering somehow . I am only 12 now but that just gives me more time to think of how i can stop this madness in the future its so heartless and u know what they do with horse meat make dog food so in essence thats why i feed my dog, food thats has never even been in contact with horses.
I don't know about cattle, but with horses, these are social, intelligent creatures who trust us. I'm sure almost all ended up here by going willingly. Read not only Monty Roberts' book but also The Soul of a Horse by Joe Camp. It is sobering, how much horses know, and relate to us as peers. Horses have always had a capacity to trust and accept and cooperate with humans, but through greed and laziness, or denial, we have been ignorant of it for money and convenience. This is pure betrayal.
WEll said. Please note dburrigh's comments below regarding the AQHA. Most of the horses in this video are paints and quarterhorses (with a few wild horses). Please note the foals that are there and will be butchered if they live and also the amount of tiny hoofs in the discard piles. It makes me sick. Anyone who truly loves horses will not breed them now.
The only way that places like these are going to ever be shut down for good is if we stop irresponsible breeding of any horse with reproductive equipment. There is a time and a place for breeding, but just because it has a full set of balls/uterus doesn't make it breeding material.
Once people realize that, and make efforts to stop, feedlots will still exist.
I don't usually respond to these discussions..but BRAVO!! I couldn't agree more!! I live in Washington state and there will be many starving, freezing horses this winter. I know people that breed their horses for the most selfish reasons! "She is so pretty" "I hope she throws color" Makes me sick.. I know of a woman that has a paint (not real bloodlines) but has bred her 4 times in hope of another paint. Each foal has been a bay. She sells it and tries for another. So wrong
I live in washington too. And the ONLY reason for starving freezing horses is neglectful owners. You can say the same thing about the number of dogs who starve and freeze in the winter.... so should we fatten them up and ship them to asia??? Stupid pointless argument.
I agree that the lady breeding her horse for a paint foal, should consider other options. Why not just buy or obtain another paint that is already alive? Makes no sense.
The real irresponsible breeders are AQHA members. The AQHA whines that slaughter is needed to prevent equine neglect, but they recently stated that breeding should be ramped up to prevent what they call a "horse shortage."
Yes backyard breeders are a problem, but the real problem are these breed groups who breed mass quantities of horses to get a handful of "perfectly conformed" horses. The AQHA is associated with the National Cattlemen's Beef Assn, so they have a LOT of lobbying power.
Shame on these people. It's heartbreaking seeing these innocent animals being killed for money. Money = PAPER. It has no value anymore.
And chupakso. Why is this different for cattle feedlots? Well, Cows never sacrificed themselves in war, helped raise cities, or have ever been faithful companions. That is the difference.
I've talked to horse owners in town who say that they hate the feedlot but when they can no longer keep a horse, they "want to get some money back" and don't want to go to the trouble of finding a new home or having it put down. It's an underground business - many use it but no one talks about it.
OHMYGOD. Those poor horses. And the innocent babies running around! The palomino mare with her foal was heartbreaking. Her tenderness with her baby in THAT environment, and me knowing they were both going to slaughter, just unnerving. Time to dry the tears and get to work getting the federal bills passed. In the meantime, EVERY DAY more horses go to slaughter. What else can we do?
We are all heart broken and furious over this. Our country is allowing this to happen and we have to stop them. This is disgraceful and they need to be put out of business. "unwanted" my a
This is a crime and being ignored because of money.
This is an absolute disgrace! There are beautiful, healthy horses in there not to mention babies! I sign petitions, watch videos, educate myself in every way possible and it just never stops! Every day I learn about another idiot abusing animals or more headed for slaughter! If people would STOP all the backyard breeding & others get education it just may help a little. And for "horses" sakes call a rescue/rehab if you can't feed them anymore, they can point you in the right direction!
It's just unbelievable what some people are willing to do for the almighty buck. Makes me sick to my stomach to see, but yet feel the need to keep watching so I know the truth about what actually goes on in this great country of ours..

The real problem is the fouls, do any of you who have posted know what they do to them? No I bet not!
KTFarmgirl 1 year ago 2
@KTFarmgirl umm ya i kinda know how much land that is. Ive spnet quite a bit of time in Shelby and my family also owns a ranch and just because they get people places doesnt mean they are anymore special than a cow. Im pretty sure my family knows that horses help ranchers considering we are ranchers and they make four wheelers to do that too. This feedlot gives money and jobs to many people and god gave humans the power over animals to use for what we want or need.

Horses were on this continent long before human beings and they have more of right to benefit from the earths grass than cattle (which were imported from europe). Go back to europe and take your cattle with you!

WhiskeyJohnCowgirl 2 years ago
thank you and ya i completly agree with you its sad but its not a big deal

Alright i wana set somthing straight because no one else will, Montana is not the only place that kills horses!!!!!! fuck you if you say montana is "the horse killing state" and this feedlot isnt even that bad theres not even that many horses and how is it diiffernt from cows we do the same thing with them that canada does with horses infact i wouldnt mind trying a horse burger. i live in shelby and in my opinion the only bad part about the lot is on windy days the whole town smells like shit
colbstheone 2 years ago
Your right, lol I live in East Glacier. Ive been up to that slaughterhouse a couple times. I felt bad then my dad told me to look at it from a different prospective. I love horses, their my favorite animal but they set and eat all day and some horses you dont have use for, you cant sell them cause everyone has to many. So ship em to the slaughter house what else can you do? Cant let them eat your grass up and waste away.
WhiskeyJohnCowgirl 2 years ago
What else you can do is be RESPONSIBLE!! You shouldn't have animals that you can't take care of. Animals are not meant to just be disposed of when you no longer have use for them. If you loved horses, and were a responsible animal owner, and had a horse that you no longer needed, then you would do what's necessary to find it a new home.
montanahmm 2 years ago
It happens to all sorts of animals soon as its horses its terrible I farm and have 2 horses if they were lame or ill and if the medication was alot it would be gotten rid off the same as anything else. I dont think it should be banned these are obvousily unwanted horses so why not do somthing whith them constructive if it feeds people whats wrong ?
Nickthechicks 2 years ago

WhiskeyJohnCowgirl 2 years ago
What's really sick minded are the people are people who allow their horses to foal every spring if they can't afford to keep them or bother to find homes for them. It is "sick minded" to not be a responsible horse (or any other animal) owner and keep it from being impregnated if you can't care for them. Slaughtering is NOT a solution for people who have problems with horses "eatin your money up" just because they keep allowing them to get pregnant instead of keeping mares separate from studs!!

WHAT THE HELL????People should be arrested for this, and I dont get why the flip people would DO THIS!!!!!!!!!they're just low life animal killers.if i would have known this was happining,i would have told my aunt not to sell her horse to that place D": now im pissed because of this vid -.-
HorseieLover001 2 years ago
For what I think, this needs to end, I have to horses myself, and cannot think of why the hell people would act like this. We, as people were not put on this planet to do this. We were not born to be monsters and kill these poor creatures. These are god's creatures, he put on here for our eyes to enjoy, not our taste buds. Horses are the animals that have drove us to victories in the jousts, and gave us a shoulder to cry on when we are sad. May god bring them a more peaceful death, not a brutal1
TheBeautifulcowgirl 2 years ago
I hate seeing this sort of thing, but I agree with onerealprincess... there is a need for the slaughterhouses. Seeing foals there just isn't right. I think more efforts should go to maybe rules and regulations on breeding horses. That could put these places out of business.

Meating is the best thing one can do!
randommagnum 2 years ago
You obviously have not seen the many other videos. No hypocrisy at all.
Horses are bred to large numbers by who? People. Then they say "oh well" and dump them. Here is a fraction of the unwanted. They should have bought a motorcycle or new tv instead.
mactine2k7 2 years ago
Gee, who knows what I even wrote? Looks like jcaramante doesn't like differing opinions, so they erased my comment.
So if there is a proportionate number of other videos from this user dealing with cruelty of other animals, including the ones that AREN'T so beautiful or cuddly, then where are they?
Now mactine2k7, you seem to fancy yourself as a genius, so tell me: what do you do with a horse that is lame? Let is suffer? Do nothing constructive with the body? Answer please.
randommagnum 2 years ago
You obviously didn't read any information on Animals Angels or watch any of their other videos. There point is not necessarily about horses going to slaughter, but the inhumane treatment of all animals (from chickens to horses and everything in between, including cattle). And...gee...there are other options for a lame horse!
montanahmm 2 years ago
"from chickens to horses and everything in between, including cattle"
Oh really? So where is the video covering snails, and how brutally they are stepped on every day? What other animals do you spend your time "defending" as much as horses? Crickets, perhaps....I can hear them about now....
Well...gee...you say there are other options for a lame horse...but...gee...you failed to name even one. Go on and answer my original question: what are these "options". Answer please.
randommagnum 2 years ago
umm...I didn't realize that snails or crickets would be considered creatures between chickens and horses nor market animals receiving inhumane treatment.
montanahmm 2 years ago
Oh you HYPOCRITICAL BASTARD! You don't think a snail feels pain when you step on it and crush it's shell? You don't think that's inhumane treatment, even if it's an accident? What - does someone have to MAKE MONEY before it becomes inhumane? What is wrong with you?
I guess you just like pretty animals, like horses, and screw all the rest of them, eh? You make me sick.
randommagnum 2 years ago
You're too funny...and obviously not too smart. Last I knew, snails and crickets were not between the sizes of chickens and horses. I also have never seen them be used as a market animal in a situation where people BEAT them. Accidentally stepping on a snail is not quite the same thing as intentionally beating and inflicting harm on any living creature. Intentionally making any living creature suffer is inhumane and wrong.
montanahmm 2 years ago
I, personally don't think turkeys are beautiful, but I don't think that they should be tortured either. If you'd take the time to look at Animals' Angels web site, you would see that they advocate for treating ALL of these animals humanely whether they're being sent to market or not. Although, unfortunately, some people do consider ignorance to be bliss.
montanahmm 2 years ago
Well gee, I looked at your youtube page, and all I see are videos about horses.
Rather than me going sifting through your website looking for it, why don't you send me a link to the page that clearly shows "Animals' Angles" showing just as much concern and activism for the welfare of SNAILS as horses... You know more snails get killed by carelessness than horses go to slaughter...plus, they suffer more getting crushed than a horse getting switched on the rump while being moved along.
randommagnum 2 years ago
OH now it's about the SIZE of the animal. Only an animal between the size of a chicken and a horse can feel pain?
And what about beating horses... You think they take these horses through Shelby so that mean men can beat them all up and otherwise torture them? I'm sure that's exactly how you want the picture painted, but guess what: a lot of these horses die up there because they are already lame or sick which is WHY THEY ARE THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
You are a shameless propagandist.
randommagnum 2 years ago
Regarding a lame horse, if there is no other option, a responsible choice could be to have it euthanized. Sending a horse to slaughter, where in it is going to suffer inhumane treatment in the feedlot, is not a constructive way to dispose of an unwanted or lame horse. I really don't see how sending meat to Europe, where it is sold for approximately $18/lb is considered constructive disposal of the body. If it were going to starving children somewhere, perhaps, but that's not the case.
montanahmm 2 years ago
Oh okay, so you must kill the horse and do nothing at all with the body instead of doing something positive with it? I guess you must think the indigenous people of this country were in the wrong, because they would kill a buffalo and use every part of it instead of killing it while riding past on a train like the white man, eh?
Oh and are you okay with them standing in a feedlot if it were going to starving children afterwords?
You are a bleeding-heart idiot.
randommagnum 2 years ago
Wow! I actually feel sorry for your stupidity! Nothing that you're saying even has anything to do with the issue at hand nor is it even a relative comparison.
montanahmm 2 years ago
QUIT DODGING MY QUESTION! It's entirely relevant, so here it is again: are you okay with them going through a feedlot if they are on their way to feed starving children?
Also, explain why selling horse meat is not a constructive thing to do with a horse you can't do anything else with, but wastefully disposing the body after euthanasia is. GO.
randommagnum 2 years ago
@montanahmm
I would think horses are unsafe for human consumption because some medications used on horses is not safe to be used on animals for human consumption.
angelbytheocean1 1 month ago
@randommagnum most of these horses aren't raised to be killed for meat. Cows and pigs are raised for that specific purpose. And when a horse is lame, sometimes he can be helped. And if he can't, he is humanely euthenized. Not shot in the head and hung upside down still concious so someone can slit him open.
kaymm93 1 year ago
@kaymm93 Why would it matter what purpose they were raised for? Does that make it less ethical? That's like saying it's okay for the cows and pigs, because they are expecting it or something. Believe me, if a lame horse can be helped, it will be. It's hard to help a lame, aged horse though. When it's shot in the head, it's no longer conscious. That's the most humane way to euthanize a horse — it's instant.
randommagnum 1 year ago
@randommagnum I know, but not all of them are instantly killed in these slaughter plants. Some of them are still concious.
kaymm93 1 year ago
@kaymm93 Well hell.. Can you say anything different about cows and pigs? You know it's not like they TRY to put them through suffering. Stuff happens.
randommagnum 1 year ago

Hi Milkbone,
I'm from Germany and I donate to Animals Angels regularly.
Floriansamsel 2 years ago
what a positively huge waste,,,such beautiful animals. and the sad part is, that there is actual need, yes, i said it, for slaughter houses, because what we fail to see is taht alot of these horses (not all) were abused or came from homes where they were unwanted. at least, when they give their lives, they help feed the hungry. dont get me wrong, i LOVE horses. but there are two sides everyone fails to see

when i get older i am going to stop horse slaughtering somehow .
RobertaGregory 3 years ago 2
WEll said. Please note dburrigh's comments below regarding the AQHA. Most of the horses in this video are paints and quarterhorses (with a few wild horses). Please note the foals that are there and will be butchered if they live and also the amount of tiny hoofs in the discard piles. It makes me sick. Anyone who truly loves horses will not breed them now.
fishmarc 3 years ago
The only way that places like these are going to ever be shut down for good is if we stop irresponsible breeding of any horse with reproductive equipment. There is a time and a place for breeding, but just because it has a full set of balls/uterus doesn't make it breeding material.
Once people realize that, and make efforts to stop, feedlots will still exist.
MedusaDari 3 years ago

But it didn't come out that way XD

I don't usually respond to these discussions..but BRAVO!! I couldn't agree more!! I live in Washington state and there will be many starving, freezing horses this winter. I know people that breed their horses for the most selfish reasons! "She is so pretty" "I hope she throws color" Makes me sick.. I know of a woman that has a paint (not real bloodlines) but has bred her 4 times in hope of another paint. Each foal has been a bay. She sells it and tries for another. So wrong
PolebendingReba 3 years ago 5
I live in washington too. And the ONLY reason for starving freezing horses is neglectful owners. You can say the same thing about the number of dogs who starve and freeze in the winter.... so should we fatten them up and ship them to asia??? Stupid pointless argument.
Shokara2 1 year ago
@PolebendingReba if that chick had any common sence she would breed her mare to a homozygous paint. What a waste of 4 perfectly good bays.
theWolfQueen13 1 year ago
@theWolfQueen13
I agree that the lady breeding her horse for a paint foal, should consider other options. Why not just buy or obtain another paint that is already alive? Makes no sense.
angelbytheocean1 1 month ago
The real irresponsible breeders are AQHA members. The AQHA whines that slaughter is needed to prevent equine neglect, but they recently stated that breeding should be ramped up to prevent what they call a "horse shortage."
Yes backyard breeders are a problem, but the real problem are these breed groups who breed mass quantities of horses to get a handful of "perfectly conformed" horses. The AQHA is associated with the National Cattlemen's Beef Assn, so they have a LOT of lobbying power.
