I was recommended this by Nicole Stoffman (Stefanie Kaye of Degrassi) and i can say that i am NOT disappointed! this is very mellow and enjoyable! Thansk Helen for singing it, AND Thanks to who ever posted it!
@vinny9698 Nope. The Baby Ruth was in no way named after Babe, the baseball player. It was named after Grover Cleveland's daughter. The story involving it being named after Babe seems like bs.
@BoldStandard: I used to play "Living in a Land Down Under" with a cover band back in the 1980s - not only DOES it contain snatches of "Kookaburra," but you can also play "Waltzing Matilda" underneath it and it works extremely well as a counter-melody.
She did indeed loose the lawsuit. Which is a grave injustice, in my oppinion. How can somebody copy a person's whole identity, profit off it, and not give them *anything* for it? Hm..
And yet, this year, the 80's group who did the song "Living in a Land Down Under" was sued for supposedly copying a melody from "Kookaburra in the Old Gumtree" (a huuge stretch, at best, if not an entirely bogus accusation) and lost. The legal system just doesn't seem to understand music.
Really? well Helen borrowed/stole her Boop Oop a Dooping from a Black performer by the name of Baby Esther. Paramount knew what they were to do with Helen & besides people were impersonating Helen long before the Betty Boop character was created.
@BooppoopaDoop and Clara Bow, its as if all the hipsters sued justin beiber for wearing skinny jeans. In that time and era, this was it. fashion, vocal style, etc.
Im not sure if clara bow was impersonating ms kane becuse clara had been around longer than helen, although helen had also been around in vaudeville. Someone once told Clara that she looked simuler to Helen but Clara didnt belive. Clara spoke in a deep bronx accent while as helen used a babyish bronx accent. Weird thing is that Helen Kane died the following year after Clara Bow they both died in september.
@BooppoopaDoop Helen Kane had been using the voice in vaudeville before her recording career. I think Fleischer modeled Betty Boop's look after Clara Bow and her voice after Helen Kane.
Betty Boop's looks was not modeled after clara bow. Someone has Re-edited on wikipedia and removed the truths. Helen Kane was the model. The creators of BB created a Parody of Helen Kane in "Dizzy Dishes" (1930) Betty Boop was a big plump dog. Btw they also used Helen Kane's photograph when they were creating Betty. Mabey around 1931-1932 they used clara bow's Body but neverless Betty still continued her Helen Kane impersonation.
@doctorpsycho1960 They used a woman who won first place in a Helen Kane look alike contest as the voice and model of betty boop. What does that tell you! :)

It doesn't tell me anything I didn't already know.
For another example of an injustice still unrighted, use a search engine to find the sad history of Percy Crosby, creator of the comic strip "Skippy", and how his copyright was blatantly violated by the makers of Skippy peanut butter.
<3 I love Helen

And to think that Helen Kane lost her lawsuit against Max Fleischer for stealing her distinctive voice and appearance when he created Betty Boop....
