how in the hell can you be a gay mormon thats contradicting they are homophobic they would have kicked you out or killed you or something. also are your parents mormons and if they are do they hate you?
Well good for you. Your Gay, how does it feel to be normal now. Cuz that what Gay is, in this day and age. If you really are Mormon, you have a lot of repenting to do. But your not Mormon, because being Mormon means practicing what you preach, which you obviously aren’t. Actions speak louder than words. I am going to start making videos because I'm coming out of the closet I am a Heterosexual. I like women. I know; I know, how can anyone think women are good looking. But I; I just do.
Having gone to BYU I understand the judgmental pressure. But BYU is a unique campus funded mostly by member donations or tithing. Some non-members even go to school for the same reasons members do the standards. Misused expectations can lead to being judgmental. That being said ONLY SOME BYU students are judgmental pricks even homophobic, but you ask the wrong thing when you ask us to lower our expectations of one another.
I'm not gay so I can only empathize with certain parts of your story. The only thing I might suggest is that you could have lived your life in a way so that you didn't have to lie your last semester.
@LDStothecore We do need diversity so that we can understand that most things are beyond our comprehension and thus beyond our capacity to judge. Sin is a faith-based morality. Don't expect others to be held accountable to it, as you are. That is judgement in it's most basic form.
Wow Acceptance and approve are not the same thing. God accepts and loves everyone, but he does not accept sin. God said that having sex with the same gender is a preverted sexual act. God doesn't approve of it. He accepts you, beacuse he loves you, but he DOESN'T accept sin. I'm not judging anyone, because I know God doesn't accept my sin. Times haven't changed. Gods word hasn't. Just because God loves you, doesn't mean he loves your sin.
Bible consistently tells us that homosexual activity is a sin (Genesis 19:1-13; Leviticus 18:22; 20:13; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9). teaches specifically that homosexuality is a result of denying and disobeying God.
The Bible tells us that people become homosexuals because of sin (Romans 1:24-27) and ultimately because of their own choice. A person may be born with a greater susceptibility to homosexuality, just as some people are born with a tendency to violence and other sins. That does not excuse the person’s choosing to sin by giving in to sinful desires.
But I'm not quoting the mormon bible, which may lead to confusion, lol. sorry. I don't know the mormon bible well. hope that helps :)
@Thatsamistery The bible isn't relevant to the 21st century. I damn sure didn't choose my orientation, just like you didn't choose yours. I wish people would use common sense and empathy when talking about this subject.
@GayMormonGuy As an atheist, they are referring to Leviticus or another early book from the bible. Though it doesn't say being gay is sinful, having sex with the same sex is. Though that shouldn't matter, because according to Christians the earlier laws of Moses were erased when Jesus spilled his blood. I wouldn't worry about it, I support you.
Homosexuality is to be embraced not to be discouraged. It is neither an infection nor is it a curse sent from the devil. Homosexuality is LOVED by god because he loves all of us for who we are and anyone who says he doesn't don't read the bible because if you believe it is an abomination then you contradict yourself because god loves all am I right? We are in the knew ages not the dark ages. Homosexuality was feared back then not today and no one has the right to judge. Be yourself.
I'm a gay BYU student... its rough. I feel dishonest because I feel like I have to hide my sexuality, even though I am following the honor code. Even better then my hetero roommates. Luckily I graduate in December then I can leave the housing and hopefully feel more free. But thanks for sharing your experiences. I think you'll be happy to know that there is a gay-straight alliance thing at BYU now. Its an unofficial BYU group that meets thursday evenings on campus. Its called USGA.
No, its what people use it for as excuse, and what people do. for example venom fang x. he preaching about being good ecter not to steal (hope so) and then found out his account banned becasue he was stealing lieing dishonoring his parents, by living off them when he getting donations when parents paying for car. that he should be since he earning income. There idiots out there that make it look bad. also christ doesnt need to religion to go into heaven, just follow him.
I'm also an ex-Mormon that's gay. I went to BYU but never finished because of BYU's stance on homosexuality. I honestly don't harbor any anger anymore towards Mormons but I hope that they'll recognize the error of their ways one day. I'd go to the clubs in Salt Lake on the weekends and see other students living "double lives." It's so sad that we are forced to live a lie. I am worthy of God's love. I don't need a religion's approval to know that I have worth. I am now 27 and at peace.
Amen, God died for sinners, god loves sinners and hates sin, rember Jesus died becaused he loved you and wanted you to freely join with him with enternal life, all that matters if god ok with it, and you ok with it.
This crap coming from a religion that still believe in Polygamy... This is what you are all listening too. Open up your minds and think, God gave you a brain use it and research the LDS , you will be amazed on what you will find... Be true to yourself, not ythe LDS.
First of all, you are Adults, you should be treated as Adults and not children. You will get the same education maybe even more at UOFU... LDS is just a brain washing religion and you all need to understand that BYU and the LDS does not have your best interest. They never have and they never will. To give you an example look up "Bruce Barton LDS" and "Chad Hardy LDS" and watch their stories.. To tell you again, what you do off campus or in your bed is your business not the LDS...
You made some accurate comments about some of the motivations surrounding the honour code. I couldn't tell how much you've personally experienced honour-code "discipline". As you said, there are perceived and actual risks, but it's not uncommon for people to find it threatening only until going through it, much like your visit with that counselor. If you really can find NO benefit in it, it's possible you're letting your own opinions overly constrain you. Do you have suggestions to improve it?
@Svperstarr That's crazy. I'm a convert to the LDS church and NOBODY I know in the church hates gays. That's not what our church is about at all! But of course people distort things and take things out of context, and call us "racist" and everything else. Drives me nuts. Anyway, I have a gay cousin and I'm always defending her, and I've stuck up for gays for YEARS on the Internet whenever people say offensive things about them on the Yahoo headline forums.
@cindybin2001 I agree that the church teaches love. However they could be more effective at portraying that message for the gay community. I am thankful for you defending your gay cousin. I have experienced hatred and discrimination as a gay BYU student... even though I have not acted on my sexuality. Any way thanks for the compassion and understanding of us. The hardest part is secrecy I feel I have to keep even though I am not doing anything wrong.
It's interesting to hear your story. I'm thoroughly impressed by your account of BYU counseling. I too would have expected suggestions of conversion therapy or something of that nature. You seem to have had a great counselor. My evangelical parents sent me to a conversion therapist during high school after I was outed to them, and it was disastrous. The counselor told me I would never find happiness if I were gay, and that is patently false. Some people only care about their agenda.
