  • I got this game along with Journey to Silius & Air Fortress for Christmas once when I was a little kid. BEST 3 NES GAMES I ever had. Memories. =3

  • WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T I THINK OF DOING THAT WHEN I FOUGHT THIS GUY!? xD

  • One of the best NES games I had.

  • wow. game music, gameplay, and player interface (map, menu) were all great. but the ending was a piece of shit!

  • This looks GREAT!! I have to find it!!

  • Does anyone know how to get a password in this game?

  • @johnmorisi8 Go to a Blue Lander room, if he says "Want me to save your progress? Set your weapon to NO USE and press Button A", you're there.

  • Epic.

  • Please fans of the game are very welcome at TheGuardianLegend[]com

  • lmao ending is so bogus "you are the greatest player" lmfao...

  • Great game but one problem, ending STUNK BAD.

  • @SparklesofUnity Post complete. You are the best comment poster. Your final score: 1 for 1.

  • i remember this game, i remember couldn't get past the first part. lol

  • My favorite NES game EVER. Unbelievably good. The music is unforgettable, the story and game is epic, and wow... all these years I remember all of this. It had this really sad underlying feel to it the whole game.

  • Not a bad way to beat him.I went at him with the dual shot weapon and a ton of enemy erasers to waste him,This was a great game and I think it needs to be brought back right,

  • no way take it like a guardian and face him up front!

  • I dont get the girl at the end. Is that a picture of the pilot?

  • @FinalWords yes it is!

  • IMO, the hardest NES game, which I still havent beat after all these years[i first owned TGL in 1989/1990!] but it is such an awesome game, setting. music, gameplay. I know it is similar to Metroid and imagine if they did an "3-D Adventure" Guardian Legend similar to Metroid Prime, that would be awesome. I enjoy your vids and collections ArtificialRaven, thank you ^_^

  • i used to love this game

  • the game sux

  • @vgmarkusvg

Ever played it? No? If so then try to get it and play, it's simply EPIC!

...too bad that with the weapon used here you don't see the overall complexity of the gameplay... just check out any other review, you'll see what i mean.

But,, if you did play it and still think it sux... then well, go screw yourself ;)

  • The trick to winning this without "being lucky" is actually using the flash weapon when you run out of chips, there are so many clustered missiles that they turn to chips/life.

  • the boss is actually pretty easy once you power up alot.

there's a trick when u are low in energy or power just use enemy erasers to zap his bullets and in no time at all there will be bunch of energy and power ups left on the screen from the destroyed bullets. pick them up to refill and blast away again

  • damn i think that's the fastest i've ever seen that boss be beatin.. WOW... i have to say this is one of my Fav Nes games of all time.. got this game when i was 3 and didnt beat it till i was 12.. now i walk through it like nothin

  • It took me awhile to beat this game it was one of the toughest ever gr8 game

  • I've been watching a lot of your videos- you and I seem to share similar taste in games. Anyway, I'm glad to see someone else who appreciates The Guardian Legend and Crystalis. They're two of the most overlooked games in the NES library.

  • @TinyTank2 Wow, nice... You just mentioned my two favorite NES games of all time. Nice! It's so true, they're horribly underrated... Anyways, I'm an indie game developer who's making a spiritual sequel to The Guardian Legend. Feel free to keep in touch/subscribe if you're interested :)

  • а что за музыка играет с 6:40 минуты???

  • thats it, im gonna make a guitar cover. damn this song gives me chills. about 18 years later and i still come back to it....

  • man PS3 or someone should remake this game come on sony

  • Hell yeah girl, the player is actually a player! =)

  • Nice work on both your videos and your choices on games!

I always did like The Guardian Legend; I feel it was underrated and should have gotten more attention from the gaming world.

  • V laser for me :-P

  • Of coure! How else would u do it? LOL! Whats up?

  • Man!! all this for this short ending!!!

  • Classic game. Even loved the Commercial. I finished this one fast, i think i was playing Castlevania 3 or Milon Secret Castle, wait no, it was Fenster's Quest.

  • I think the name your lookin for is Festers Quest

  • Yeah, thats it.I love those weapons he had. Remake please.

  • This was one of those games that seemed to take forever to beat. And when I discovered that the games protagonist was a girl I was all WTF?!

  • I found this boss intensely creepy to deal with when I was little. I actively dreaded having to look at the thing to shoot it.

Had the same issue with the eyeball thing that spit those long vertical line things, but not nearly as strong.

  • BTW, the easyest and fastest way to kill last boss is left and right side lazer.

  • the only things about this games, good things must come to an end! but memories will live forever!!!!

  • This boss is easy

  • I confirm that. After I found an easy way to defat him tho....

Actually I just recorded a vid I doing that and I m sleepy :) and still it was pretty easy compare to most other wepons tactic.

  • @verycrazyghoul I had Game Genie,And the T.G.L password

  • Can't say anything about TGL, because I didn't play it a lot, since I like the most RPG part of this game.

But I am sure the most anoying boss is big eye that makes long walls. It shoots also so it is hard to avoid both vertical walls and his normal shoots. And if you touch the wall you take huge damage (like a half or more)

  • This game brings back so many memories. I remember playing when I was like 8, and did pretty bad. I wish I can play it now. Still looks like so much fun.

  • classic

  • Favorite Game, then mega man, then shadow gate, then final fantasy. Ahh memeories.

  • Final boss is pretty damn easy compared to some others... Red Grimgrin being possibly the hardest. These two are so similar though, just use fireball and in case of low hp, spam enemy erasers till you get a proper healing item.

  • @I0ny fireball and ee's are my bread and butter in this game!

  • Awesome game. Probably the best one of the NES.

  • i just finished this game myself. As child my max progress was forest corridor and the SSS key :D..

I played the whole game trough today and.. Red Grimgrin was hard.. this one wasn't so bad. Also the floating skull and the red tentacle thing minibosses were hard aswell.

  • Great game overall. Many of todays games lack the type of challenge this game offers.

  • ok i was in slackers the other day right just looking around and i saw it one of the best nes games guardain legend and i only paid 3 bucks for it i thought it was a great deal!!!!

  • your ship is red how the fuck did u do that>?>

  • That's just the way it's colored in that very last area.

  • I think if they did it right, a remake could be cool?

  • agree. that was a very good story.

My dad said if I got my own game then I can play nintendo And so I found this game in a mall and as soon I played it. I was addicted.

it was my very first game I play and it inspire me to play video game up to this day. I still have this game right now.

THE GUARDIAN LEGEND NOT JUST AWESOME.

    IT IS AWESOMENESS

    favorite stage:forest corridor

  • This game has special meaning to me heres why it was given to me at Childrens Hospital in L.A. by a kid I don't remember his name who had cancer and he had a Nintendo in the room that we shared he said it was too hard for him to play so he offer to give it to me to see if I could beat it I made it my Quest to beat this awsome game not just for me but also for him which I did and until this day I still remember him. When he left he told me thanks for beating this and that I was his Guardian.

  • That's a great story. Thanks for sharing.

  • Nice story, but when you said he left, did you mean left the hospital cos he got better or left this world?

  • I ment he left the hospital and I now remember his name it was Jeremy I would say he was better. Being so young one doesn't really understand what cancer is I pray to God he is in the best of health along with his Loved one's. So many great memories thanks to Nintendo now lets get back to Metroid on the Wii it being the closest to "The Guardian Legend" and continue making memories.

  • @tupatarocity that makes me cry

  • Very classic game. i loved it back on the nes days =)

  • I could always make it to this boss but never beat the damn thing. Thanks for posting :)

  • awesome gameplay and good video quality im 16 years old and ive been looking for that game for 7 shitty years i remembered everything about the game except its name :S BUT TODAY I FOUND IT AND ITS TIME TO KICK ASS NINTENDO STYLE!

  • great game, glad i never took the time to try to beat it when i got stuck...that ending blows!

  • the way you beat the end boss....well, nice job. You were pretty lucky in reality.

  • Best NES Game ever

  • Yeah there are some similarites. I liked this game better than the NES Metroid game though. Now Super Metroid..that's a whole different ballpark lol.

  • I couldnt even get half way through this game. there was a corridor I couldn't figure how to get into It drove me nutz so I gave up and there went my love for the game.. This will stick in my most hated lore.

  • lol i bet i know the ones either corridor 3 or 4

for 3 there is a room that tells you wait wait forever and some junk then just go sit in the corridor room and it will eventually open the 4th u have to enter and exit the blue creature room a few time and he opens it

however i think this boss is on the contrary rather easy if you are low on life use the light charges i normally have 255 by the time i get to him the stuff he shoots can be made into life boxes with the light charges

  • Why isn't that chick in a "Super Smash Brothers" game?

  • Id like to see her and Samus fight

  • Samus ftw :]

  • Really a game that went to my heart. It's a really different mix and not really my type of game. But some real interesting music. Actually mixed the ( I can't remember how to describe) theme toghether and made it as sms signal. Annoyed my ex-girlfriend to insanity. That together with Kid Icarus - Stage 2 as alarm signal was a tear apart for her. :)

  • Damn!!! i luv this game..tru classic

  • This was one ,if not THE, of the best NES games out there, and was a off brand game!!!

    Remember the electric penis??

  • i have this for my nes ... but i cold never beat the last boss XD

    great game ^^

but i made him go red tho ^^

  • Best way as far I can remember is to use same method as here or use grenades as they also destroy those small ships that hopefully drop health

Tough problem with grenades is that they did quite little damage and are quite hard to throw especially if you get stuck in corner.

  • *plays it in an emulator but wants to get the actual NES game* The Guardian Legend,YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

  • in my opinion the greatest nintendo game ever, and one of the greatest games of all time going into to 2009. im from the old school, does anyone remember where the cover of the game is from? i seem to remember when i was a kid this cover being the cover of a horror movie. the only difference was that on the cover of the horror movie, the little face on top between the eyes was not on there.

bring back the 80's and 90's!

  • oh man thank YOU for the memories!!!

  • Best ending credits track ever

  • Did the first game ever come out in the United States. I would love to play that game.

They still need to make a part three then.

  • This game along with Blaster Master need to go Next-Gen like...NAO!!

  • Interesting, I always used the Repeller (the one that spins in a circle while going forward, I think that's what it's called) up the edges, and stayed in the upper left or right corner just like you did. The Repeller has the side effect of killing stuff around you more easily, but it takes a WHOLE lot longer to kill the guy. Your method works a lot better :)

  • Some people call it the Final Guardian but I read somewhere else end boss is just called "it".

  • Why didn't they ever make a Guardian Legend II.

  • The Guardian Legend is the second game in the series. The original game was called "Guardic"

  • i agree, the songs in this game is beautiful.

    i like the game :D

also it is a bit of a chalange, it is also a game wich you dont go through in 30 minutes or soo... :D great game ^^ 10\10 from me :D

  • dude, i think all the songs on this game are beautiful, a game before its time. when thinking of atari to ps3, guardian legend is one of the all time greats. im almost 30 and i still have this game on nintendo, guardian legend for life!

  • i agree 100% it was an absolute classic and its a shame it didnt take off to greater heights

  • I managed to beat that boss on my first try, but only because I had lots of enemy erasers to spare which I just used whenever more powerups were needed.

  • This is definitely my favorite game for the NES. That was some good shooting there, but i prefer the backfire special weapon to deal with him though ;)

  • so get this shit: I beat the game, and then my NES screen crapped out on me as soon as the credits started. Now that I've seen it, I'm glad to know I didn't miss much. I'ts the journey that counts in NES games kids. New games are cool, but we should be proud that we grew up with this stuff. builds character damnit!

  • Another great game. Got far in it but wasn't able to finish it. Great to see the ending.

  • This game is great!

One of my favorit nes games ever.

How far in the game did you come?

If you need some help or just want to see more Guardian legend videos you should watch my boss walkthrough.

It contains some tips how to beat the bosses in the best way without getting hit.

  • I was in high school when I played it way back when lol. If I remember right I was on the level 8 boss and got killed, I teied about four or five times. I didn't wind up finishing because I had had my NES for 5 year and used it as trade in to upgrade to the Sega Genesis at the time. The boss walkthrough does sound tempting though.

  • I did the same thing, i trade in my nintendo for a Sega.

I was only 12 years old at that time so i didn´t now what a big misstake i made.

If i new better i would never have done that, not that the sega sucks but the Nes is like the holy graal these days.

Well the boss walkthrough is something i wanted to do for some time but didn´t really have the time to.

Belive it or not but it only took me 7 or 8 days of practice to do that walkthrough, but it was hard as hell i must say.

  • So if you want you could check out the videos, it would be great.

    have a good one!

  • This game was mega cool.

  • One of my favorite Nes games next to Ninja Gaiden 2 and Teenage mutant ninja turtles 2 the arcade game I still have my Nintendo and all my original games and even still play it from time to time these days. I remember being shocked that she was a girl when I beat this when I was young LOL

  • One of my favorite Nes games next to Ninja Gaiden 2 and Teenage mutant ninja turtles 2 the arcade game I still have my Nintendo and all my original games and even still play it from time to time these days. I remember being shocked that she was a girl when I beat this when I was young LOL

  • OMG...I'm so old. I played this game through 17 years ago.

  • If you're impatient you can stick your side lasers in its head, but yeah, the huge fireball works best.

  • Nice job! I just beat this game for the first time today after buying earlier in the week for like $5. I used the grenade weapon on the last boss, it worked really well. Just hang in the upper-left corner and keep slinging them to the right.

The huge explosion kills most projectiles or any enemies that try to attack, not only protecting you but giving you more chances for health. This was a good game, I think I'm going to try out Broderbund's Battle of Olympus next.

  • Wow I never thought of using the grenade lol. I found it to be rather useless but I'll look into it. As far as Battle of Olympus goes, If you thought this game was hard, It's nothing compared to that game. It uses the same whatever as Nintendo's Zelda 2, except much more detailed. confusing and harder.

So best of luck. Thx for the comment :P

  • Of the three games: Battle of Olympus, Zelda 2 and Guardian Legen, the last one is the only one I played through. The Hades of Boo was just too frustrating: I went in, was hit by the first bat, fell by it in the abyss, died and switched off the game - forever). As for Zelda: I made it through to the last castle - I even met this super blob (or whatever) - but somewhere in the middle I lost the drive.

Aynway. I still have all three games and, one day, I will show these bastards...

  • Legacy of the wizard is frustrating to me when I was young I beat it but now I can't remember how to free that damn dragon that you are supposed to fight to end the game. Same thing goes for castlevania 2 simon's quest I just be going in circles and can't remember how I got to dracula's castle all them years ago.

  • this game is extremely difficult

  • ghostbusters lol

  • wow, thats a lot of flicker.

  • Yup! It's because they used sprites on a final boss. But NES is capable of processing much more objects than rendering them. PC-Engine for an example had 8-bit CPU too but it had 16-bit graphic chip and it worked good!

  • From what I recall reading somewhere, it's because they're displaying more sprites per scanline than the nes can handle. It's not so bad in the game overall but this particular boss was esp. flickerifick ;)

Yeah the PC Engine seems made for shooters.

  • i just hate that the codes is so fucking long 32 letters for a code i would allways get them wrong

  • ummm i beat this boss my first try... just use level 3 fireball and hes cake..

  • making a sequel of that masterpiece would be wise. Too bad that compile is bankrupt but, anything is possible!!!

  • this is still my favorite game ever made ever. its pretty much better than halo 3. i wonder why the nes never went online

  • so thats what guardian legend is...awesome!

  • Easily one of the best NES games. Also among the lamest endings of any game, ever. Especially with how long it takes to beat. Long for the time, anyway...

  • The endings pretty good. I don't know what more you could expect, Naju is destroyed and the leader is too. The heroine leaves for earth to recieve a warm welcome from her superiors. Seems like a good ending to me.

  • Must... Steal... Those 4k chips...

I'm trying to beat "It" right now. XD

Nice strategy (which involves my favorite weapon) ;D

  • Own the game, but haven't gotten far on it...

  • This is easily one of the best NES games ever created! Period. 5/5.

  • that seeker missle is what I use also in the beginning and if i need heath i cheat and use the enemy eraser to kill all the things the boss throws at me then when he turns yellow i just sit back and erase enemies all the while shooting him with my normal gun with full chips it hits the side of him

  • nice video but bad weapon choice use the SABER guy goes down within 2 mins

  • This game was a tough one, but I don't think the final boss 'extremely' hard, just very difficult. I didn't even get to throw my controller at the TV screen in raging anger. I just might've gotten lucky back then, but I got through it at the first time I fought it.

  • Huh, good strategy. The way I did it long ago was the cutter laser, moving away from him whenever I needed a health recharge...it wasn't the easy way, to understate it.

  • It's because holding turbo button is technically tapping button very fast.

  • dude go 2 gamefaqs (dot) com

  • do you know if Nintendo or anybody will EVER remake this?! was a CLASSIC!

  • Quit poking me, little man.

    Quit poking me.

    Goddamn.

    Goddamn, little man!

  • one of the best games ever made. i really pray for a sequel or remake. :)

  • you guys that said the game is hard are whussy..

unless you use the TGL code to just to play the shooter part. it is kinda hard..

but if you play the regular game and go through the regular overworld it's easy. just collect all the powerups in that the overworld and goto the shooter sequence last and it will be easy because u are powered up.

  • i dont think i ever even got him in the red, good job.

  • the music in the outro is great, heard it now the 10th time :) magically

  • This game is definately one of my all-time favorites. For years I hoped it would be resurrected by a later game system as a sequel or remake.

  • It is certainly among the hardest bosses I fought. Especially when he goes red. Samus Aran is the best female in NES,but this picture of Miria at the end must be the best female shot on the console. =)

  • Actually this boss is extremely easy. You stick between his hands, and fire the red Fireball weapon at him nonstop. Takes less than a minute.

Fantastic game, though. I wish there were a lot more like it.... but theres none.

  • You mean that fireball that cuts through anything?

  • That would be the weapon, yes.

  • Indeed - best game ever ~ Music rocked ; oh yes

  • I beat thia game too, but the way they set up "IT" (The final Boss), it seems like they really DON'T want you to win.

  • grats, this is one of the hardest games created for the NES. its a shae comile went bust....

  • finally someone out there posted this i wondered if anyone finish this because i know i couldn't

  • Wow. That looks like one annoying boss.

  • WOW I would expected to see an ending sequence rather then directly to the ending credits. Still though one great game. Classic games RULEZ as usual and always will.

  • Actually there's an ending sequence that is just before the final boss, with the planet Naju exploding. If you turn the lights off while watching, just hope you don't get a seizure from it... hehehe.

  • What a game.

  • she is really cute, i miss this game too. i think i'll go play it right now on my gameaxe color ;) in public. i love showing off!
