Classic song written by David "Kubie" Kubinec. Dave would eventually play with the late 60's progressive rock band "Mainhorse Airline" (shortened to simply "Mainhorse" by 1970) with Patrick Moraz later of "Yes" and "Refugee". He would also go on to front the early 70's Glam Rock band "Rats".
I'd like to add my recent "Rats" upload as a video response here if that's OK...
I am Also "Re-Mastering" This Classic Track so that the Stereo Field Isn't so Seperated. If Anyone is interested, I will be Posting it on my Channel Soon. And of course I will Supply it to anyone who wants to hear this Song in all it's "STEREO GLORY!"
I EVEN have a version WITHOUT the Orchestra! Ha Ha! And it Still sounds SHIT-HOT!
I am no-one Special. Just a Mere 28 Year old, Carrying these amazing Tracks into the 21st Century. If only I had more time, I would take requests :-( Nice Post tho
@mthai66 You're going to have to meet me Half way mate! PM me your E-mail & I'll send you a Drop Box Link so you can just have a listen & take what you fancy. I did 3 versions in the end :)
And for gods sake.. show a little character won't you? There's a good chap!
Hmmm... I Wonder whats Producing the Wind, Brass, Strings & Percussive Instruments! This is Obviously just a Mime job! But It's LOVELY to see them performing on Stage.
I Have contacted Repertoire Entertainment to try & obtain the Seperates to the Side B & Perhaps the Most IMPORTANT song of their collection; Peter's Birthday. There is NO Stereo Vertsion of this Track, & yet the Seperate Mono Recordings of the Vocals, Bass, Drums, Organ, Orchestra, Guitars, etc MUST exist.
I love this song since a long time! I don't remember if it was a great song in Germany where i lived as a child, but I still remember the melody and can even sing it, even if I did not hear it for years and years
I heard a scratchy muffin/ corky burger remix of this song in about 2000. Nevertheless, that cassette tape went on every summer holiday ever since. This song has legendary status in my house!
I can't believe that I found this! Loved this for 40 years and never bought it when it was released! One of the guys was going out with a neighbours girl in our street (Brookfield Rd, Aldridge) and I got a signed photo - I wonder where it is!
I like so much this nursery rhyme rock from that era; it's in the same vein of Keith West's Grocer Jack, Jason Crest's Turquoise Tandem Cycle or Kaleidoscope's Jenny Artichoke. I still don't know if this style had a name, but it's quite different from the american bubblegum music from the likes of Kasenetz-Katz (which, by the way, I like too).
Yeah, their entire 1969 album, but this song in particular, basically defines the term "bubblegum pop". Still, insanely catchy and not a bad little number. Also, the vinyl LP of this album has become quite a collector's item, consistently fetching over $100 on eBay.
Your Dad has good taste Lucy. I bought all this sort of stuff on vinyl if I could find it, and now again on CD of course. The World of Oz were one of the best of the genre
I can't elaborate much, aside from the fact it was a hit here in LA somewhere in the late 60's-early 70's. I was all of 12 or in my early teens, so I don't remember the exact date...I did hear it a lot on the radio at the time- whatever that time was! :)
By george, I have "King Croesus" but I never knew it was a hit in the late 60's. I don't remember hearing it back then! I found a copy on the Deram label back in the 90's. I like them...haven't heard any of their other songs until now.
Great song.Kind of similar style but does anyone have a video copy of The Magic Lanterns hit Shame Shame or anything at all by them that they can post on here? Been looking for a very long time for a video of theirs to watch.Thank you.
Haha, this is arguably one of the worst songs of the otherwise brilliant britsike era. And the blonde guys look horrible. But thanks for posting anyway, its a classic.

The World of Oz Had such a characteristic & fresh sound. It sucks they were never given the publicity they were promiced at the start.
And if you think this is querky, listen to B-SIDE - Peter's Birthday! It's a work of ART I tell you.
Magic.

Here I am and you know I can
Love you if you let me
Have a muffin now
And then you won't forget me
I have become all fingers and thumbs
It's funny that you mislead me
Wondering why when suppertime comes
She never runs to meet me
