Anyway I love W40k series. BUT! I must say that balance of factions in SC2 is much better, that is why you can play this game for eternity. That explains the success of the 1st part.

W40k has much greater background but realization is VERY difficult in RTS.

Starcraft is like an Age of Empires feel when it comes to strategy, which isnt necessarily bad. But im surprised Napoleon Total War isnt here. Thats pure strategy in both real time warfare and non military decisions.

Real Time Strategy game xD You may not feel like you're thinking that hard, but it must take effort to decide what the best option is to stop a mothership hovering over your base. There are many options, but choosing one is the strategy you choose. It just happens all so fast in your head, you don't really notice it.

Starcraft 2 was going to win of course. Once I finished the campaign, which was darn great, I pretty much have left the game to rot. I tried online and just kept getting murdered by Asian plyrs. Back in the days I loved Brood wars and then found true love...Warcraft 3...but no game has got me more hookd than DOW 2-Last stand (Asians just ain't very good at it too)...Last Stand is not a love affair...it's an addiction...I need help....

@briankong196 That's only true to a point, micro is a massive factor in the game. Marines, even in mass, are killed by almost anything if they dont focus fire, and zerglings need surrounds or they lose everytime. And I don't know about the others but CivilizationV is the WORST Civgame, if not turn based strategy I've played, ever. A true fan would have said Civ3.

Having played all of those games, I would have chosen Starcraft II solely for the customizability. In raw strategy, it's horrid, but with as much popularity for the custom scenarios there is, I have to agree with the decision. SupCom 2 really didn't represent its ancestor, though. If none of these pleased you, try out the first, I'd suggest.

Starcraft 2 is hands down the most strategic game around today. At first glance it may seem typical to play build units go kill, but at the pro level it requires extensive knowledge of maps, build orders, precise timing, and yes good reflexes. It is fucking future chess without the 10 years you can take to make your next move. Don't take my word for it though just realize that there are tournaments all over the world and it is a national sport in S. Korea, televised.

Strategy games is barely alive these days.

The so called strategy games these days usually end up being very easy on the brain and sometimes feel empty, but of course there are exceptions.

Starcraft 2 though imo is not so much a strategy game but more of a reflex and planning games. When I win in SC2 it often does not satisfy my intellectual desire to be challenged. Planning, reflex, and execution is what SC2 is, and it is fun, just not what I call strategy.
