This is a great set. Everyone's really showing their thing off, the guitar-feedback works, Dee-Dee is a hard motherfucker while Joey can sing a tonight-anthem like no other.
Actually you all are wrong the best drummer the Ramones had was Clemm and Marky by far was the most consistant drummer they had. Richie will he was good the reason he was good because he was high o smack most of the time.
@101Vodoo Clem Burke was not with the band long enough to make much of an impact. His forte has always been Blondie. He and the ramones were never a good fit.
I dare to say, that Ritchie was by far the most skilled Ramones drummer ever. And also my favourite one. He's skilled, I like his playing style AND he sings back-up vocals.
Marky had the best drum technique ever no one else in this world can play a 4-stroke beat with your thumb sry for my spelling and your point finger as fast as Marky can!!!!
Yeah, I think he did a lot of things drum wise that broke a bit from the template of Ramones drumming that Tommy set down and Marky followed (with more technique). Ritchie on the otherhand really brought his own approach which was a bit looser. He is a big band jazz drummer nowadays.
@lucybrown1 Tommy did backing vocals on their debut album for 3 songs (Judy Is a Punk, Chainsaw and I Don't Wanna Walk Around with You). He just wasn't credited (for vocals).
don´t forgive marke played on end of the century and pleasant dreams...wasn´t robotic to me, is punk rock, i don´t think you´re prettending any swing thing...also ramones said originally that they wanted to turn tock what it used to be before, like beach boys, j.r lewis, etc..simple and energic. it sounded clean, and fast...and marky´s finger technique was better for speed, than richie´s wrist...marky still can play that speed, and
Later gigs... I saw them in 90 & 91 (?) in Melbourne... Joey just wandered away and let CJ do the song. (I was a bit too "into it" to absorb the minutae of backing vocals.
@morozko69 The last thing you want to hear is Marc singing. There is a video on youtube of him singing, well sort of singing. He can't really keep a straight face. There is a good reason why he never sang with the ramones.
Marky and Richie are diferent styled drummers, they are different musicians who played in the same band, both played well what they had to. I think there´s no good or bad in art and music. Marky plays really faster and cleaner for eg in Loco Live, but that doesn´t make him better or worst than Richie. Reffering to Tommy, he did what he could, and didn´t sound too bad, taking to account that Ramones where beggining.
I'd put Richies speed and agility behind the kit against Marky's any day. Marky turned drumming for the Ramones into a robotic art form; Richie was so friggin' live and fresh and, I believe, inherently faster than Marky. Tommy was the originator, but I believe Richie was the best drummer of the lot.
How come Tommy's last? Tommy was their best.the gigs from 74 to 78 sound the best with tommy behind the rogers kit..also you forgot elvis ramone clem burke did a few shows as elvis ramone
you dont quit the ramones kause your mistreated, you man it out, i mean joey and johnny didnt talk to each other, but they stuck iwht it, joey johnny and dee best members
Yeah well they threatened it a lot because they were really cocky but you are right, he actually quit right before two major show and thats where they had to fill his place in with Clem which was a disaster. So in a way it was a big middle finger to them from him.
But you are right, I realized that when I watched End of the Century recently.
Here's what I love about this video: Joey's sleeping off what must have been an epic coke bender, DeeDee's either nervous or depressed or jonesing, Richie still seems to think he's in an actual band at this point, Johnny's half-assing and going thinking about the pounds to dollars exchange rate.
umm ok just to response to ssiknick83's comment Cj was a Ramone. He was in the band for 7 years if anybody wasn't a Ramone it would be Richie since he was in the band for like only 4 years
i have songs that richie sings like humankind, chasing the night(demos), smash you, elevator elevator(dempe studios) and the unreleased track can´t say anything nice, i thinks there is more
richie never got the credit he deserved he was in the band longer than tommy yet all the t-shirts and other items include tommy instead of richie. marky has got 1 or 2 things but seriously richie was great

richie sucks on drums, hes good but its not the same, it is like dio replacing ozzy in sabbath its just not the same, thats where the ramones went after they replaced dee dee and markey. but there still the best!
Do you even know something about drumming? Technically Richie was the best drummer Ramones ever had. Wart Hog would never have sounded the same without Richie on drums and vocals. His work with the band are underated.
I have to agree. I saw them in '86 with Richie and later on with Marky and Richie was the better drummer. He made them play faster as well. The gig lasted 55 minutes, so there was time for more encores.
Richie wasn't fired, he left after 5 years (longer than Tommy) because when it was convient for the band he was Richie Ramone but when it came to other stuff (like merchandise money) he was just a hired hand. And he got sick of it.
Anyway, good video. Richie was by far the best Ramones drummer.
Yup, somebody else played on Halfway to sanity. He's on the cover but that was shot before he left. I don't have the book with me, but the biography Hey Ho, Let's Go clears up things a bit.
He did play on the album. He left before it was released however.
Left in August '87, album released September '87. Reportedly argued with Johnny during the mixing prior to leaving,(though this is not the reason he left) so had to have played on it.
Yeah, I think Billy Rath stepped in for Marky in Subterranean Jungle. Totally agree with you nonetheless. Richie added a totally different feel and touch to The Ramones, especially live. Great drummer.
I was lucky enough to see this line up in 1986. That was excellent...then year previous he played a gig in Belgium with a busted hand. That story can be found in On the road with the Ramones.
Richie's story is like something out of Spinal Tap. Right after he joined his girlfriend started pressuring him to demand more money. They got sick of it and fired him.
@Ramonancho see el compuso somebody put someting in my drink y im not jesus y me parece que otro mas pero no me acuerdo. andaba re bien el tipo yo recien ayer vi el video genial!!!!!
honestly my favorite is Tommy he is my idol

The Ramones in the early to mid 80s are my favorite era of them.
Joey looks and sounds healthy, which is good for him considering how unhealthy he was before and after the 80s
Dee Dee was laying off the drugs. Dee Dee wrote some great songs in Too Tough to Die, Subterranean Jungle, and a little bit of Animal Boy.
Richie is by far the best drummers for the Ramones. He was fast, he could sing in harmony which brought more life in the band, and he was just fast!
Johnny is just Johnny. But still good
