  • Thermal paste would also be a good idea. It can sometimes reduce the processor heat by 5-15C

  • @Th3D3m3anor To quote him: "Thermal Paste is already applied."

  • Hey is installing the CPU that easy :D? Just pop it in? No glue or resin to hold it down?

  • @LithiumFreeBuild Well I wouldn't say easy considering you can't touch the top or bottom of the CPU because if you break one of the tiny pins it won't work. But that little silver door he had to pop up before he installed keeps it nice and in place.

  • I always get so nervous pushing down on that processor bar, I always feel like I'm gonna break it.

  • im so tempted to upgrade my desktop myself so i dont have to pay extra for labor

  • wow thanks, really helpful didn't know it was this easy, and does every motherboard pretty much look like this. i was thinking if i got one i might just take it to a pc store and get them to do it, but as u just shown me how easy it looks i might just have ago myself, that strap thingg, what is it called, and what does it do, let you not get electricuted or sumin?

  • @MefaBushi

I knew that. By the way, weather shouldn't affect it much when you're inside. I thought for sure you needed an ESD mat, strap, or some way of grounding yourself. But I see people all the time just rubbing all over the chips, CPU, video card, and RAM with what appears to be a very poor working environment and no precautions against ESD. I know all the build up and what not. But, do you actually need a wrist strap or is touching the metal on the case enough as long as you don't move to

  • @MrIhatethoring No it's not necessary but it's good to have it. Touching the metal on the case is enough but don't forget the power supply should be plugged in when you touch it and you should touch parts that are not painted, now days lots of cases come painted on the inside also, so it's tricky because touching the paint will not remove the static charge. How often you get shocked by static electricity? not that often but than why buy the strap? so you don't cry after when you burn 1000$ cpu.

  • Oh God! The amount of urban legend is horrifying. I'm and electrical engineer - OK.

Here's the deal: Hooking a static band to the leg of a desk doesn't do any good if its not a real ground or the motherboard isn't grounded (like in this video!).

You DON'T NEED A STATIC strap. All you have to do is touch the ground metal on the motherboard (like the metal around the outside of the board connector - keep one hand on that metal and do your business with the other hand.

  • @whatthefuckwhatcrap damn didn't i already mentioned that? please dude you also have wireless wrist strap, not sure if they work but i'm sure you can buy them. And once you discharge the electricity you are gonna have to do a lot of work to get enough charge. By the way it's not a legend it's called "precaution" you can look the word in the dictionary if you don't understand it.

  • Finally someone with proper safety precautions I'm trying for my A+ certification but if I don't get that I'll still have my Cisco certification you seem pretty experienced so tell me how all these people are getting away with putting their motherboards on carpet and sitting on carpet too while moving their whole body that seems like a big no no to me

  • @MrIhatethoring Now do you know when you will discharge? Probably not. That's why you should take precautions you don't what to play with a processor that cost you 1000$ and burn it up before you even mount it.

  • @MrIhatethoring Lots of things contributory to the static electricity build up it's not just carpet, it's your clothes, humidity etc. We usually notice static electricity in the winter when the air is very dry. During the summer, the air is more humid. The water in the air helps electrons move off you more quickly, so you can not build up as big a static charge. And don't forget you keep losing the charge while touching other stuff.

  • Followed this video for installing mine. Let's hope I Didn't mess up during installation... Will figure out tomorrow...

  • @Me102288

I totally agree but do you have Cisco Certification? They will fail you if don't wear the Wrist Strap when working with computer components. Safety is never to much. You can discharge the static electricity even by touching the power supply while it is plug in, but a wrist strap is much better. This guy is not PRO obviously but still shows some stuff how to do it to the guys that have no idea, so they don't completely blow it apart.

  • omg , he dropped the cpu on the pins.. you know there's an insersion tool for a very good reason..

ps I've been a pc tech for 25 years.. that way is fine for socket 478 boards, on 1154 boards those pins are like hair width. and the guy drops the cpu on them... wow.. I wouldnt trist that board at all honestly.

  • Static Electricity is the accumulation of electrical charges in an object.Your sensitive computer components such as the Processor (CPU), hard drive, memory, main board chips and expansion cards could be severely damaged. The internal workings of a computer, and especially the hard drive, are extremely susceptible to static electricity, which can cause considerable damage to the hard drive if it is zapped with even a small amount.

  • @MefaBushi it other words you dont need trhat strap you just have to sit down, dont move your feet, and discharge yourself on a grounded piece of metal somewhere (including family and freinds that are close by.. :-)

remain still, move your arms not your feet. 25 years as a oc tech,, and its never failed me

  • Microchip damage can occur if it is exposed to static electricity as low as 10 volts, and humans are not able to perceive static electricity until it has reached about 1,500 volts. Walking across a rug can produce a static electricity voltage of up to 12,000 volts, but static voltage is not life threatening. The reason the Static Electricity discharge does not kill someone is that the current is very low but that same voltage can kill electronic components. Good job with the wrist strap.

  • y u need tht yellow fing

  • @cr7187 If you mean that yellow paper label top of socket cover, you need it for RMA:ing the motherboard... If you take it off or lost that cover warranty is void.

  • @cr7187 Ops I mean that the paper label just warns about it*.

  • wtf with the static?

  • its stupid video 1 static can not kill a processor 2 touch it the way you like the processor its inside the metal protection dont wore its ok too touch the pins it takes a lightning too kill a processor stupid video its gut video for idiot like him zzz

  • why did you put in your right hand a bracelete?

  • @julwrc It's an anti-static wrist strap and in my eyes is a gimmick unless you have a lot of carpet

  • @julwrc It's what these kids do now a days....LOL

  • finally after 20 videos i found someone installing the heatsink that comes with the processor, thanks for the video, it's very useful

  • wow thanks seems soooo simple!!!

  • does this apply for second gen prossecors too?

  • thank youuuuuuuuuuuuu

  • where it's the termic past ???? this mother and proccesor really don´t need it ?

  • @TheChakal87 Only after market coolers require thermal paste.

  • GUYS HELP ME! WILL AN I7 PROCESSOR WORK FOR HP G62-b28SA!!! PLEASE I NEED TO KNOW URGENTLY! and sorry for the caps i needed some attention ...sm1 pleeease reply asap and Thanks! :D

  • @ADGamingHD What kind of I7 is it? What socket. There are mor than one type.

  • @Sebbzorx Thanks for replying Sebbzorx , I dont know anything about processors loool ,i am graphic designer , but i very well know I7's are fast for render , which Kind would work ??lool if you dont mind answering :)

  • @ADGamingHD Noticed now that the HP G62-b28SA is a laptop. So there is a very low chance that you will be able to change the proccessor. And even if you could, it would probably cost more than the laptop itslef im afraid.

  • Also, you press down on the opposite corners to seat the thermal compound correctly. nergin

  • Clearly a noob. LOL

the CPU can be touched on the top, that's a casing put in place to protect the chip and for thermal compound to be applied. fail.

  • @codybuRrnocomm Video description: "The chip was about $300 at the time of purchase, so I was a little nervous about handling it." that's why he was cautious you smart ass, he didn't want to damage it.

  • @codybuRrnocomm Maybe because the oil in your fingers can create oxidization, thus making your heatsink compound less effective. same reason you shouldn't touch halogen lamps.

  • @codybuRrnocomm

he seems paranoid, i always say, your better off safe then sorry. So why not let him act like that. Only thing will come out of Huskermania is a good thing.

  • @codybuRrnocomm No being a noob would be touching it. Go ahead touch it, because theres a chance it will break it due to static charge, you're the actual noob here.

  • @GameGlitcher94 you mean you're saying by touching the silver coating on the top that is put there by machines in the factory to cover the copper heat spreader underneath the coating isn't to protect it? oh yea, that's right it is. dude, I work at an IT firm and work with hardware all day everyday. that silver part is a covering placed to protect the chip. go look up "lapping a cpu". the pins or the contact pads on the underside is the place you need to worry about damaging.

  • @GameGlitcher94 Actually, you're the noob here, he's wearing an anti-static wrist strap.

  • @crwblyth Wasn't talking about the man in the video doing anything wrong, people moan too much !

  • @codybuRrnocomm

of course that the Cpu can be touched at the top but than you going to have to clean it up if you don't want to have your CPU cooking in oil. no matter how clean your hands are you still going to leave oil and very small parts of you skin there. So will this affect it noticeably? well not really unless you really play with it but hey why are you applying thermal paste anyway? that's for better contact (processor and heatsink) and not your oils and heatsink.

  • @MefaBushi Hey what if I wear latex gloves or something?

  • @joedude967 Latex gloves are many kind if you have sterile latex gloves those are great but latex powdered gloves definitely not. no matter how clean they look they usually come in a box and there will be some powder in the outside of the gloves. Dont use those. (am always talking about new gloves not used ones)

  • okay i have a iBook g4 and i have tried to run some software that has came up with a pop up saying i need intel , if i were to install an intel chip to my computer would it let me run this software (photoshop cs5) ,plaese reply ,thanks.

  • @finnasdf if its an AMD motherboard an intel processor wouldn't be able to be installed they use different connectors

  • @finnasdf You cant just slap a intel cpu in there. It wont fit you need a new pc

  • The divots are triangles?

  • You don't want to touch the plate because you want a perfect surface for the heat sink/paste to mate with, even the oil of your fingers could ruin the thermal performance somewhat.also wearing the bracelet is a good idea at all times to be sure you don't ruin the components. I worked in a college building and maintaining computers for years so I know what im talking about, mistakes are very costly.

  • @Benzedirk2012 All stock fans come with it pre-applied. Think before you post

  • @Benzedirk2012

If you listen, he says that the cooler which comes with the CPU already has thermal compound fixed to it.

  • I have an AMD processor and want to switch it with an Intel processor that is currently on another computer. Can this be done?

  • @xyzqwa Not unless your motherboard has a socket for it. so unless you got some wierd mobo no.

  • where is thermal compound? I mean do you really need it when your CPU's base is made by copper?

  • Lol, I have thrown proccessors in the air, Touched them, Walked with them, dropped them on the ground, in water and they still work perfectly fine =)

  • @Kadriification lol samee

  • @huskermania why dont you touch the sliver part of the cpu

  • dude thats insane what does that bracelet do? i no joke work on my comp all the time and have never used one or worried about touching the casing......what is that harm it can cause? and another thing, can u put any processor in any mother board or is it just certain ones?

  • @keith12161 some motherboards need AMD processors but some need Intel processors

  • @keith12161 The bracelet just grounds you. aka removes static electricity. just don't work in socks/on carpet and ground yourself once in awhile and your fine, really not needed. (to ground yourself just touch something metal every 15m or so)

  • why does the sound stop at the beginning?

  • Why can't you touch the top or bottom of the cpu

  • @RyanVanilla you can touch the top but not the pins at the bottom because the grease from your fingers can go on the pins and... u know

  • do not ever drop the cpu as the video shows.

  • man i have the same motherboard and same processor :D

  • >pretty vital that you have this

antistatic devices are for idiots, you've been fooled into spending $9 on nothing.

  • sooo...what happens if you touch the metal part of the cpu? :)

  • i just installed this myself.. and i started to push the thing down as you said, but heard things going on.. so I opened it back up, and all of the pins are squashed down and all facing the same direction.. is this supposed to happen??? I thought they were supposed to stick straight up and down! I mean, it looks like it's supposed to because there are cut outs in the socket that go in the same direction as the bending pins.. but now i'm paranoid did i mess up or are they supposed to squash?

  • @RUINNYS Pins are supposed to be all straight and uniform, facing towards the motherboard. I'm pretty sure you messed up D:

  • never set your motherboard on top of the anti static bag the INSIDE is anti-static but not the outside

  • hi, where did you connect the clip on the antistatic wiristband ? please answer ASAP

  • Very silly question, but can you use rubber gloves when installing and taking apart? I have a hard time trusting myself to discharge on a metal doorknob xD. Paranoid but i don't want to waste $100+ because I didn't discharge correctly.

  • U should push the pins diagonally on the heatsink:)

  • This is going to sound weird, but the little X's you added were quite helpful actually.

  • would that motherboard work with an i5 2400?

  • @CrashArchives No. You need a motherboard with the LGA 1155 socket for that processor.

  • @Ninja947 K thanks for the help.

  • @Ninja947 oh and also do you know if the amd phenom black edition will work with this board? i know thats probably a stupid question but i just want to be sure for i plan on building a computer.

  • @CrashArchives No. An AMD processor won't work on an Intel socket motherboard. AMD's Phenom IIs use the AM3 socket type, and their new line of Llano APUs use the FM1 socket.

  • @CrashArchives No, motherboards have a set socket and you need to match CPUs with their corresponding motherboard (amd with amd boards, intel with intel, and matching socket numbers)

  • Is any computer compatible with an Intel core i7?

  • @RoboRandy1 Don't you mean motherboard? Because that's pretty much the main thing that you'd need. Some older model motherboards are not able to use intel core i7 (or second gen processors) so you have to make sure that it'd work, I would suggest as of right now go with the Gigabyte Z68 models because they do support intel's second gen processors, hoped this helped :)

  • @RoboRandy1

There are many flavors of the i7. You need to know what socket you're running on. There is the i7-8xx which is for socket 1156. The i7 -9xx is for the socket 1366 motherborads. The newer i7-2xxx are running on socket 1155, or sandy bridge. As far as I know the current i7 are for socket 1155.

  • Just touch the inside of ur computer case, no need for antistatic wrist thing sometimes that thing can actually damage stuff I heard that from CISCO

  • hey while u pushing it down did u hear any noise from the pin ??

  • haha my pc is intel core i5

  • why cant you touch the top ,i can understand why not the bottom but why not the top?

  • i'm installing it right now. on my msi p67a-c43 it really hard to close. it's my first build and i afraid to broke something. please help.

  • I have Intel core 2 , can i upgrade? or do i need a new mother board

  • @pivotdeadking that depends my friend, on which CPU you want to upgrade to. All CPUs have a 'socket type' that only lets them fit into certain motherboards with the corresponding socket. As far as I know the very latest core i7's use the LGA1155 socket, and they are the only CPUs that do so. However some of the older CPUs do share the same socket type - find out which yours is and that will tell you what CPUs you can fit into your motherboard and which ones you can't.

  • @roadiemullet is there any way of finding which socket I have without opening my computer?

  • @pivotdeadking Yeah man - you shouldn't need to open it up at all. The easiest way to find out is to go to 'System' in the control panel of your computer and this will give you the name and model number of your i7 core processor. Then google the name and model number - it will probably come up with a wikipedia page for that CPU as one of the search results - have a look on there and that will tell you which socket your CPU and motherboard have. Which version of windows are you using?

  • Was the back plate pre-installed for you? Or did you already put it on before you started the video :P

  • WHITE POWER!

  • it's prety neat how the computer manufactures get people to assemble there own computers for free.

  • it would be 10 degrees colder if you use a good termal paste!!

  • hey do you really need that bracelet even if the power isent connected and if i need wath the name for it so i can find it

  • @ludvig218 Even if the power isnt connected? Does it look connected in the video?!?!

the whole point of the bracelet is to provide an earth for static electricity so you dont discharge hem onto the components which can break them.

You should infact do the opposite and plug the power in. but not turn on obviously. if you are touching the computer power supply that will provide an earth.

  • @ludvig218 It's not necessary but I go by "better safe than sorry." I mean, mine was $5 from Home Depot, I think that's worth it other than having that very tiny chance of screwing everything up, but unless you're wearing wool socks on heavy carpet and rubbing them back and forth constantly I doubt they're even necessary.

  • is this the first time you treat with processors? you don't want to touch the silver part?!!!! you are toooooo cautious more than needed.

  • @mizoss Old comment i know, but touching the top silver part places fatty acids. that can cause uneven heat displacement.

  • I have a AMD Sempron140 2.7GHZ

and I want to change it to a AMD AM3 Athlon II X4 640 3.0GHZ without changing the other parts?

  • You missed on the placement of the processor but other than that pretty good.

  • @masonryred What do you mean missed the placement?

  • @huskermania when you dropped the cpu onto the motherboard, it's not a big deal to touch the grey top or the sides, it's just the bottom you need to watch for. and dropping it like that could have bent some pins or something, I kinda loled when you let it go and it fell onto the board

  • please reply: what Ram and what type of Memory do you put in it? pleassee reply!!!!????

  • Comment removed

  • @SpittleBaby I have that motherboard here's the types of ram it uses DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10660) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) check the ASUS website it has the list for it

  • those cheap intel fans you have to be careful because you will break your motherboard if you install them with too much force i hate that you spend all that money on a cpu and get such a crappy fan

  • Great tutorial. Thanks

  • wow man thanks alot...i mean like alot....its really hard to find people that actually talk in videos like this...normally its just some fucking words on the screen that go too fast......thanks man this helps alot

  • i just wear gloves(shurgical)

  • Can you change processor in a laptop?

  • Can they make CPU bigger, and with it add more cores and add more power.

    like 5cmx5cmx0,5cm ?

    Smaller costs more. :(

  • Where can i buy the yellow thing? :)

  • @microscopic789 Never thought of that. I will do that shortly. Thanks. :)

  • what socket is this?

  • @Bmastertjuh LGA 1156

  • as smart a guy you are, i cannot believe you were fooled into wasting 9 dollars on a freaking antistatic wristband. Please explain to me why you bought it. To avoid static, all you need to do is touch some metal and you will be discharged. -_-

  • @00Svo It's just basic practice. I never used one until I built this.

  • @00Svo Intel makes them in static free facilities hur der.

  • @YamiPoyo are you retarded? reread my comment and think about how much sense your reply makes.

  • @00Svo Re-Read what I said, if static was not a big deal intel would not care about it, static warnings would not be on the motherboard box, the cpu box, the socket for the cpu etc. now what was that about me being retarded?

  • @YamiPoyo im aware static is a big deal. all i said was an antistatic wristband is unnecessary/waste of money. you can get rid of static by touching anything metal. This is not worth arguing over.

  • @00Svo Why so butthurt? Wouldn't you rather be safe than sorry? I know I would.

PS: you'd have to be CONSISTENTLY touching the metal to ground yourself, the band is just a fancy way of doing it. The $5 I spent wasn't a waste of money, I found my refund on the floor, lol.

  • @00Svo yeh the best for this is if you have the power supply constantly touching your barefoot. thats a good way to get rid of status electricity. But obviously have to take it off once installing it

  • @00Svo Thats what I think so too, I think he should cut out the part with the antistatic thing, as some newb might actually buy one.

  • @00Svo Maybe because he has the sense not to fry his equipment? Buying a wristband is smart and quite frankly, common sense when building.

  • Im going to buy all of the parts you bought and just make a computer by just watching your vids. Prolly gonna fail at it

  • @scoper156 I'm going to be doing a second build that will cost around $450. It will be a better project for those who haven't built one before, and will also cost a lot less. It'll start as soon as these videos are done.

  • @RaniWithAnA in addition to what @Prabs95 said, make sure you match the socket type number.

  • @RaniWithAnA Just make sure the motherboard is Intel based since you have an i5 you will need to use it with a Intel Based motherboard and not an AMD. :)

  • there is nothing wrong with touching the top.....

  • how much did this computer cost you, including shipping, and everything else?

  • I'm really new to this whole computer building thing, so forgive my ignorance, but why do you need such a large cooler for such a tiny processor?

  • @swimmerbc well the little tiny cpu can get really hot around 100-150 degrees so obviously we dont want it melting so we use fans :)

  • @swimmerbc Because that tiny processor has a lot of electricity going through it, about 100W when encoding a video. All that power generates heat, which in excess, can destroy it. We use fans to keep the components cool, which is good for the lifespan of the component and computer.

  • @swimmerbc LoL you probably learned alot by now but you should check out the Noctua NH-D14 and see how big they really get (on air) this stock heatsink that intel provides (in my opinion) is probably the worst for a processor like that because you got like 25W per core generating heat :P I never use stock heatsinks especially since I Over clock my cpu's

  • you really shouldn't use stock coolers

  • @dacasman I'm planning on upgrading soon, but for now, it does the job.

  • @dacasman That is why you should buy an AMD processor, the stock coolers are beasts

  • @ghostguy2k7 yes but the new intel refrence cooler with the 980x pwns

  • @ghostguy2k7 i do have a AMD. but i use a zalman after market cooler. i like the peace of mind that larger coolers give, my stock cooler was always hot when i touched it. but the zalman is cool to the touch. i'd say its below room temperature.

  • First

    Very Nice! And thank you!

  • @NoLimitYT Damn, beat me to it xD .. SECOND!
