  • I loved this movie and how they used some of the clothing over and over. It has charm.

  • I just watch the full Emma and I must agree with the director. This version, unlike the last BBC attempt, is far brighter, merrier, and closer to the beloved book than I've come across. For my opinion, it even surpasses the Miramax production, and for the longest time, that was my favorite.

  • this is one of my most favourite adaptations <33

    LOVE Romola =)

  • That's why I love this version of Emma so much... They give it a certain "modernity", which doesn't take away from the beauty of the period, but rather brings it more to life and is more like people would actually act, as opposed to being so stiff with manners you couldn't wave at someone without it meaning something. BEST version, in my opinion.

  • I love the BBC for revisiting these classics!

  • ı watch it.thank you.

  • You guys have definitely done your job. Terrific! =D

  • cool

  • "This is one of my nicer outfits, yea" LOL JLM :')

  • Johnny at 4:41 HAHAHAHAHA!

  • @foxfacist I was laughing so much. Everyone was so serious and sincere and then...him. :D

  • this version is the best one....:-)..I can watch it over and over again...

  • @srunik I know exactly how you feel. I fall for them everytime I watch it. Certainly one of the best, if not the best, adaptation to a Jane Austen novel

  • It's so funny seeing Eli Stone acting in English. Jonny Lee Miller is so cute!!

  • You guys did really really well and Im completely satisfied with your version of Emma. :) All the actors were well cast, the lighting, scenes, script. everything was up to mark and beyond! Thank you so much for making this for people to finally see come to life! It was a great treat! <3

  • BBC emma crew - YOU GUYS ROCK

  • Well done... well done indeed BBC and the Mistress of novels Jane Austen.. Brilliant, funny, witty and had such colour to the characters... I am a happy lady indeed... :0)x

  • The screenwriter's comments about wanting to inspire people to go read the book after seeing a film adaptation was great. I was satisfied to know after watching this clip that she also wrote the screenplay to North and South, which inspired me to read the book by Elizabeth Gaskell.

  • @robb4cubs I agree. I read Emma after watching this version of it. I've read other Austen novels and did not truly enjoy them until I watched the BBC version of Emma and started to get really into the novel.

  • I wasn't looking too forward to this adaptation due to some of the negative reviews it got, and also that I felt nobody could have done it better than Gywneth Paltrow.

But I watched it on YouTube ( thank you YouTube!) and I loved it so much I was so sorry it was short :)

  • i loved this adaptation i thought it was an excellent mini series!

  • What a beautifully done adaptation. Ms. Garai and Mr. Miller did a fantastic job. Love. Love. Love this Emma! Thank you!

  • Certainly the best adaptation of Emma! Kudos to the cast, especially the two actors playing the lead characters.

  • i absolutely loved this adaptation especially it was so bright and vivid! =]

  • Best Austen's adaptation!

  • This HAS to be my favorite adaptation. I thought nothing could be Sense and Sensibilty, but I am loving this! ♥

  • Just saw this in Canada, and I must say its fantastic. Many of the other productions of Austen novels have had a few characters that are miscast, but in this case everyone was great. It may even be my favourite of all adaptations.

  • this is really what I was looking for as the extras on the dvd but special features were very limited on it

  • this is the best emma adaptation by far.

i think they just got everything right. =)

  • The house where the film is set is called Squerryes Court in Kent. Owned by the Warde family. Really lovely people. I lived at Squerryes for a year and it was so good seeing the place again.

  • Nice adaptation as far as Emma's adaptations go... My least favourite of the novels but I believe they got the tone right. Austen would have approved, I think!

  • Does anyone know what work is the music in the first part of the video from?

  • o hai dumbledore.

  • 4:03 - 4:12 oooh how I want to snog him!

  • @Leidilandelta Yeah, he looks beautiful in that scene. It's the light I think... not that he's not a handsome guy, he defentely is. But, you know, the lights and the costume... ;-)

  • :O :O

  • " shes very funny" she sure is ;P <3 greeeaaattttt movieeee!!

  • hahaha spikey...4:32

  • I fell in love with this series so gradually, I hardly knew when it began. I believe I must date it from my first seeing the lovely Emma and her interaction with the gorgeous Mr. Knightley! Can't wait to give the dvd as my Christmas presents this year, it was wonderful! Thank you!

  • Haha, love the Austen referencing! I too love this series, and think it the 'sweetest and best of all Austen adaptations, faultless in spite of all its faults'. ;)

  • Brilliant acting from actors.

  • FYI it will be shown in the US this winter as part of the Masterpiece Classic series on PBS.

  • Good to know. I can re-watch it then! :D

  • Hope we could see it nearly on DVD outside UK!!

  • I hope too!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Love Romola Garai. She's great here.

  • I'm really liking this. It's the first time I've ever seen a BBC serial while it's been airing. I always catch them a year later.

  • Thanks for posting!

  • Can a kind soul put the episodes on YouTube so that non-UK viewers will be able to watch it too? Much appreciated if you were to do so. Thanks!

  • @Littlemisshavoc I found it at the library, try there!! So good!

  • @Dancingartichoke Hey, there was Tipping the Velvet, which was written in the 2000s! Then there's the 39 Steps, South Riding, Any Human Heart, and so forth set in the 20th century. I guess the reason why the BBC doesn't make adaptations of more recent novels is because those novels haven't been time-tested.

  • thoroughly enjoyed the first episode just now. whipcrack dialogue and comic moments.

  • Ahhhh! I'm dying to see this new adaptation!

  • When does this show on TV??? x

  • This Sunday on BBC One
