  • Hi Mr. Allen,

I know you probably get like a million requests from people like me... but I know you like ragtime so here's an idea: it's called Peacherine Rag by Joplin. I play it as a duet, but I would love to see a talented person such as yourself play it.

You don't absolutely have to do it...but it would be AWESOME if you would :D

    Thanks, Theresa

  • Hi Allen Thank you for sharing another great tune with us,Your Auussie fan Joy

  • Joplin is like "holy shit this guy just kicked my ass"

  • can you upload Pine Apple Rag please?

  • @rooo1o Don't know Pineapple Rag. Sorry.

  • @allendale1962 Its part of the 'Sting' soundtrack, not sure if that is how it is spelled thou. Love to hear you play 'Solace' from the soundtrack thou, beautiful song.

  • @Winterstick549 I will post Solace soon. Meantime I will try and learn the Pine Apple Rag. No promises on WHEN I will have that one accomplished!

  • @allendale1962 i'm gonna learn this song soon in piano lessons--with sheet music of course--i think it's awesome how you learn all these songs by ear.

  • This is really quite spectacular! I'm a fellow piano player and i really look up to you! You may consider learning the Root Beer Rag by Billy Joel. It seems like a song you would perform perfectly and fit in with your style of playing :)

  • @denden66 I will try and learn Root Beer sometime soon. Thanks. Allen Dale.

  • You'r not playing it in the original tune, but I still love it :D

  • @Ragtime95 thanks.

  • I'm real new with Ragtime, and I'm about to try and teach this to myself on guitar. You're the man, you've got this stuff down!

  • @LesPaulverizer1989 Thank you.

  • ive been watching you play this for a couple of hours on youtube to see if i could pick some of this up but its going to take a while, but ill get it eventually i always do. take care and keep em comming, regards, davefrog100

  • @davefrog100 I will never be able to post the Bumble Bee Boogie as I have struggeld with it for over 20 years and just cant do the fingering right on it. sorry.

  • @allendale1962 That's quite allright; I'll listen to the other 8,999 tunes you've posted, thanking you for each and every one!

  • @davefrog100 thank you.

  • love this, however i still pose the bumble boogie challenge to you allen good sir, as i know its something you could turn in something spectacula, i have to admin the jools holland version takes some beating

  • nobody captures the spirit of ragtime quite like you your the best davefrog100

  • @davefrog100 Thank you.

  • Not my favorite playing. But even if i didn't care much for it, I gotta respect you're talent. Love all your other vids that I've seen.

  • @roguepenguin1994 thanks.

  • I thought it was great, and I like your personal touch on it!

  • @whatanightmare1 thank you.

  • awww messy, these changes made it worse and u mix with tempo too much

  • @edziomy I did the best I knew how to do. SOrry.

  • @allendale1962 You shouldn't be apologizing. Improvising it by ear is the true way it should be done. It's a nice change from the same old sheet music that everyone goes by.

  • @AchilleDebussy Thank you.

  • @edziomy You sound like a music critic. Why cant you just enjoy Allen's playing like the rest of us do and give him credit for making such happy music?? And, Allen, you have nothing to apologize for. You are an amazing musician!!

  • I actually own the recording of the composer (G.F.) playing it. I I would give anything to be able to thank him personally for writing this song. It has brought me great joy over the years. As a wedding anniversary present my son actually taught himself that piece BY EAR. Kind of looks like you might have that musical gift, too! I could email you an mp3 of it if that is allowed.

  • @mmgigi Thanks. Just send the mp3 to jcpbriefsman62@aim.com

  • Please do George Fischoff's Georgia Porcupine!! You'd be so much better than the off-tempo ones that are already posted. Everyone would LOVE it!! I REALLY love your "My Melody of Love". actually BETTER than Liberace's recording! I'm serious!!! Now, go find Georgia Porcupine. If you can't, I think I still have the music.

  • @mmgigi I don't know Georgia Porcupine. I will hunt it up on youtube and see what I can do down the road.

  • Of course, the method you used to "tie it all together" was to repeat Part A again at the end. Is that done often or your personal preference for this rag?

  • @HowDareThey1970 Most artists end this song the smae as I do.

  • @HowDareThey1970 I don't know. I just play the songs the way I heard them recorded off of old albums.

  • I like how you used the the last few measures of Part A to be an intro. I also always sort of wondered whether the last few measures of Part D would work as an intro (to this or other rags) which would in effect tie the piece together even more thoroughly. Do you think that (the use of the end of Part D as an intro) would sound good on this rag or the Pineapple Rag?

  • @HowDareThey1970 Not being familiar to the Pineapple Rag, I am unsure. Sincerely, Allen.

  • @juwo1968 I hope this means you like it?

  • This takes me back, my son played this in the school concert about 15 years ago, I was so proud of him he was only 14 at the time. x

  • @rosechris48 thanks.

  • i like it.

  • @pianoamigo Thanks.

  • The ragtime genre has been perfected

  • @tommymacdonald LOL...thanks.

  • You're just marvelous! How about some videos on how to play ragtime piano?

  • @Bimallove I don't have time nor patience to d opiano tutorials on youtube.

  • you are amazing! damn.

  • @TheShining1976 Thank you.

  • LOL, just watched your version of The Entertainer, and HAD to watch one more of your vids. This is another Joplin Masterpiece. And again Allen, AWESOME job. Another 5 Stars ! You are a True Inspiration.

  • Thank you.

  • Beautiful song played very well. Keep up the good work of keeping these classics alive Allen!

  • Thank you.

  • You're very talented, my friend!

  • @OJungell thank you.

  • Great ! I think besides ( Martin )Spitfire videos here on Youttube, yours is also good . I agree, that you have improvised it well, and make it to your own style ( it is lively, catchy and fun ) . I am a fan of good ragtime music and am going to subscribe you on my site !!!

  • Thanks.

  • Very good performance.

I've seen your Entertainer video and the way you adapt Joplin compositions to your style is very impressive.

I'd love to see more Joplin songs in your style.

    Kepp it up Allen! :)

  • Thank you.

  • Wow! You are awesome. I love this one! Sounds great and you are an excellent pianist. Thank you for sharing your music. Best wishes for a Happy New Year. Fran

If you want to, you can also listen to my version!

    thank you!

  • I learned this from Del Wood. She and I BOTH play it in G. I will listen to your version soon!

  • thanks

  • Absolutely ADORE UR WORK!!!!

  • Why thank you!

  • We're so glad we found your youtube account!!! :D Love your piano playing!

  • Thank you.

  • I like it so much, thank'you!!

  • You're welcome.

  • It would be easier to re-find your files if you labeled the video title with your name, e.g. "allendale maple leaf rag"; otherwise your videos just come up in the browse history as "Maple Leaf Rag" and then it's just a guess if it is you.

Pretty much most music on YouTube that I have seen has the name of the performer in the title.

  • I'll try and fix that over time. thanks.

  • @drpmp Just type in allendale1962 FIRST! THEN the song title!!!!

  • Ah God man, how do you do tha thing at :42 - 43? It's so awesome and I just can't figure it out. By the way, this is awesome. Keep doing what you're doing.

  • thanks. I just do what I do. Can't explain it.

  • Well done !!

But I think the original is better

  • thanks. I did my best at it.

  • Each new song takes different amounts of time. I listened to Desert screams on your site and enjoyed it alot. Very blues/rock in style. I will try and listen more as I get time. Sincerely, Allen.

  • You astonish me! If you tell me you have never taken lessons id probably quit playing piano. lol - Again; Amazing! Thanks for all of your uploads!

  • Thanks, I had about 4 years of lessons as a child.

  • :O

    Fantastical.

    Loved every bit of it.

    Moe

  • Danke, Meine fruend... thanks my friend!

  • PIANISTA MERAVIGLIOSO !

  • Thanks

  • nice pops

a rather intense number, superior to most cocktail "jazz" BS (or rockrappopcountry noise)

  • LOL... Yu slay me! ROFL.

  • I love your playing, and this is my all-time favorite rag, but I think you may have rushed it just slightly! I wanna see you play it again fleshed out a little more, with some repeats because I love all your other videos!!

  • You get ONE take and that's all. Sincerely, Allen D.

  • Maple Leaf Rag, one of my all time favorites. Again, you are a fantastic musician.

  • Thank You.

  • absolutly brilliant it workd realy well even though its in the wrong key but its still brilliant :P if u want i could send u a copy of the sheet music :P

  • Thank you.

  • You are the best!!!! perfect work!!!

  • Thanks. 44 years and STILL Learning!

  • Absolutely love all of your videos!

    Nice work!

  • Very nice, sir.

  • Thanks

  • do not tell me you have a day job because that would be the biggest MISCARRIAGE OF TALENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I was recently lt go from my Day Job. I don't do clubs anymore. I haven't performed in a public sense, since May 10th, 2009.

  • I think you really should, you've got real tallent and you have by far got to be one of the best pianists, i'd put you up there with Jools Holland with your skill, you really are something else Allen :)

Best regards form Geran in Wales.

  • Thanks, Geran.

  • I feel like I'm in a wild west bar in the roarin' twenties when I listen to this!

  • Thanks, I guess.

  • It's a spam. My Spanish is rough, but it is something akin to:

"Please do not read this. On the 13th of October of 1991 a boy named Nick....had family problems (?). If you read this then copy and paste onto another 5 videos or if not Nick will..(something I dunno) to your family" and blah blah blah.

  • Thanks for the word up!

  • reminds me of my aunts house when they would fire up the player piano. I WANNA PLAY RAGS!

  • thanks

  • Very nice. I also play this song, but with your improv syncopation you blow my version away. Amazing dude.

  • Thanks

  • for every great rendition of my favorite ragtime classics i put the same thing:

    HAVE ANOTHER BEER!

  • Thanks

  • A lot different from the original, I personally prefer the original, but you look like you're having a great time when playing your own version. Great job ^_^.

  • A little bit different from the music I have seen. Anyway, the difference is good. I like the speed. I enjoy it much better when it is not a blur (like the way the old pianist at Disneyland Rod Miller played it).

  • thank you. I struggled for some time trying to learn this tune in the key Scott wrote it in which is A flat. After several meltdowns, I decided to see if the key of G would work for me, and Voila!!

  • Wouldn't it be nice if composers just wrote in c g or f

  • My favorite 2 keys are B flat and E flat. lol.

  • yes it would, i would not be suffering over my songs right now.

  • fucken awesome

  • thanks

  • Nobody does ragtime better than you, Allen! I'm anxiously awaiting news on the CD. Anything happening with it?

  • Roseanne, I just got a new job. It will be some time yet before I can get to a studio and record. Thanks!

  • I have nothing to say.

I cannot express your style in words, except for godly.

    Again, my honor to comment.

    Excellent. Godly. allendale1962.
