Okay i love macs, but there is no excuse for the price! If HP can sell a laptop with a 17 inch screen for $600, apple can do it, IF they wanted to!!! Apple knows their customers are devoted to them and that they will buy them, no matter what. They simply charge whatever they want because people will pay the higher price for the better experience.

you proved my point in the last sentence, but they dont charge whatever they like, they have to charge to be able to compete, because, they cant charge 600 bucks, because they dont own 90 percent of the market. This is simple grade 8 economics man.

I see what your saying, but apple COULD afford to charge $600, with the billions they have in reserved revenue, but they dont! If apple even sold their computers for under $1000, even for a limited time, their market-share would skyrocket because everyone, no matter how much they say they LOVE pc's, would love to get their hands on a mac. unfortunately as of now, that'll be at least $1200 for a decent current-generation mac.
