  • @gunsreviews I grew up with Prince. U seen like young dude no disrespect but u have no clue about reviewing Prince albums. I am 47 years I been listening to Prince for 32 years now, Dirty Mind is not his first album. His first album is "For You" 1978 second album "Prince" 1979. Dirty Mind is his 3rd album.

  • i want to hear what you can create since your ssso talented : )

  • And you are?

  • Dude, I was 14 when this came out-if u want me to review it, I will.It was a classic album. This was porn on Vinyl. For a 14 year old WAAAAY before the internet this was a must have.Prince taught me about the birds and the bees & then some.It stretched the imagination.it may have been his 3rd best album of all time for the rawness and relevance of it at the time. There were NO black artist doing what he did. it bridged rock and R&B in an erotic way. Sign & 1999 would be 1 & 2 with Doves 4th IMHOP

  • i just imagine how it was back in the day because there was NOBODY I MEAN NOBODY who did the WilDEST things that Prince did! i'm 19 but oh man! i just wish i was 4rm that time 2 witness something so spectacular like tHE PRINCE "HEYDAY" if ya kno wut i mean.WOW!!! I LUV PRINCE!!!!

  • u needed to have lived in the time . U are to young to relate.

  • I love the track Partyup.

  • Man, I appreciate you reaching out to "different" music, but if you're going to do that -- especially with older material -- you should really put yourself in the MOMENT. Use your imagination. Imagine yourself THERE. In 1980. Look up the music that was being played. Read their lyrics. Then imagine hearing this album. Imagine what it would do you. Imagine how hungry it would have made you for more music like this. But you're right: Controversy is better, but only marginally so.

  • I was first exposed to Prince...exposed! When I saw his video performance of Uptown I think, or maybe Dirty Mind on TV, late night video show or something, he freaked me out...creepy, homosexual looking dude... I thought, wait, there's Queen... and now Prince...?!

  • Great review. Thank you for posting. This is the ultimate Prince album beacase it's way before it's time. I think Prince made alternative music before there was alternative music and "Dirty Mind" proves that.If anyone loves the early albums you will really love his B-sides - Pure Gold!

  • @evilclowngr

"I think Prince made alternative music before there was alternative music."

Exactly!! That's why alot of people didn't "get it" back in the day when he did a 380 turn with this album. It was indeed way before it's time and Prince was definitely pushing the bar (bigtime) when he release "Dirty Mind" back in the fall of 1980. This album is a masterpiece because of it's "in your face" rawness. There was no other album like it during that time, when it came out 30 years ago.

  • Wrestle that mic! Pin it to the ground!

  • Dude, Dirty Mind (song and album) rules!

  • If gunsreview only put the affort in his stuppid reviews what prince came-up

    with cookin' up DIRTY MIND

gunsreview GET a LIFE you butmunch

  • At the time of it's release this album was WAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY ahead of it's time and very innovative. Personally for me this is when Prince "found" himself as a artist.

  • yo dude of coarse u dont get it, i can tell you werent there at the time. when a real prince song came on back in the day before purple rain, his concerts, his songs were a buzz. you couldnt believe you were hearing it. New school cats cant relate to the real. no disrespect dude but you had to be there, besides princes early early stuff was really for the women. da dudes didnt get it till 1999. everyone cusses now> NO one cept redd foxx, dolamite, pryor, etc cussed then. check the

  • *LOL* Where does this guy get off even posting this review? Like he knows about this shit?

  • Alright i can see where you and alot of people can say that as i am only 18 and no i didn't live through the years consederid Prince's ''Heyday'' But i do love Prince's work i have all his cd's from For You to the so so Lotusflower, I Did my research on him and i love the man he's one of my faves i would say i know my stuff whether you think so or not

  • Alright, I'll give you a break. You got credit for discovering his old early stuff which was his best. I'm just gettin ornery in my old age. Something I swore I'd never do! *LOL* I've turned into my dad!!

  • @GunsReviews I think the part of your review that is missing is a matter of perspective. You weren't even born when this came out. You have no idea of what the "musical climate" was back then. Prince was a breath of fresh air...Disco was on the way out and people were looking for something new. His previous works had a bit of disco in them and Dirty Mind went totally the other way...AND WORKED. I would dare say that Dirty Mind paved the way for the Prince we all know and love today.

  • This was not Prince first album to talk about sex. His very first album a song feature on it was titled SOFT AND WET. All of Prince albums are great. You are just too young to appreciate his greatness!

  • I still have this album .. a lot of great songs on it

  • Soft and wet was his first top 40 single and his first dirty song. 1979

  • my fav with lovesexy

  • I wanna be your lover, controversy, Dirty mind, 1999 were the best

  • That whole second side of the album (Uptown, Head, Sister and Partyup) was said by some to be too vulgar and dirty - But I loved the album....quiet as kept I love all of Prince's work from 1978 to 1996
