  • Banelings can do this without having to micro like crazy to keep the enemy from finding out.

  • @Necromas What's you're fucking point jack wagon?

  • to show everyone how big of an influence he was to starcraft strategies and how big of a legend he is. blizzard had to patch crush interceptors and tournaments had to ban ally mines. those things are powerful.

  • One of the reasons he was the most popular player. Not only was the best, but the most fun to watch! Even if he is not the best anymore, I'll watch his games before another pro players.

  • What game was this?

  • @dragoons9009 Starcraft: Broodwar

  • @Guitar5hit No, what match? Boxer versus who in when and what league match?

  • ok sorry for calling it a bug. the more proper term would be "game exploit" mr. language police... Q: but why is it not so easy? A: you can't attack your enemy while in ally mode. and if he attacks you, you might loose a lot before unallying!

  • @Killerman2k not really you can still manual target allied units, you would just need more micro.. plus he only allies for a few seconds

  • Why is allie mining banned? It's a pretty good strategy.

  • @XaviorOne Potential TvP imbalance.

  • i remember the good ol' hunters days. where i used this bug myself an had some laughs. its not a easy thing to pull of. so i don't see why its illegal. my point being that it takes some skill. its not like its a auto-win.

  • @Killerman2k bug?? you are an idiot and a fail newb... its not a bug

  • @Killerman2k How is that NOT easy to pull off? Ally, unally, BOOM! Insta kill.

  • yeah it should be banned but you have to admit, it was creative!

  • it is banned. noob

  • i was agreeing with another comment, of course i know its banned.

  • it is banned

  • they did ban it

  • I can't believe the ally option was banned. Stupid rules like those will stop great moments like these from ever occurring again in Starcraft. Boxer has a creative mind.

  • sif they wouldnt ban it

imagine a huge battle where terran is getting owned and then you find all your units are dead cause of the allied mines

  • @evilfatsh1t Scan next time then :)

  • toss cant scan

  • @teddison11 But they can obviously build observers. Which any D level player should know to do. Doesn't matter if you're playing PvZ or PvT or even PvP, you always get observers.

  • Allied mines SHOULD be banned.

Starcraft is about skill of units and production.

Taking advantage of a system setting to change outcome of game doesn't require any skill.

It's cleaver and effective, but it goes against the game itself since there are no commands being issued.

    It's semi hacking.

  • allied miens are already banned from proleagues and ICCup

  • wow how did he does tt?

  • i wanna do this on bnet

  • BOXER IS GOD

  • ah, only boxer

  • Honestly I think this is comparable to stop lurkers.

I realize they're different levels of exploitation because one requires game settings tricks while the other only requires issuing commands to your OWN units in a certain way. I'm just saying that if the game were redesigned, either both functions should be built in, or neither.

Both exploits ultimately boil down to preventing your units from attacking until you want them to attack. You should be able to do that.

  • its too powerful

  • In a way I agree with you, in being able to stop units from attacking. However allying a player should not be the way to do it. If there were a way to issue a "stop" command to spider mines everything would be dandy. I suppose the rational is that the spider mine is just a remote drone, and if it senses an enemy, it attacks, whereas the lurker is an actual unit under your command, who could be told not to attack until ready.

  • the spider mine isn't a unit. It doesn't do what you tell it in any other part of the game, why should it start now?

  • wait when was this?

  • before it was illegal lol

  • actually i think boxer had to replay this match because it was banned at the time he used it but he didnt know

  • Lol thats awesome, I wonder if mid match he was thinking "is this Legal?" haha.

  • GG!

  • Using exploits = you're using your race 'rediculously well'?

Oh yes, you used to be able to crash the game and cause the match to restart if your zerg... I guess that's fair too.

  • hm? i don't get it. allied mines? how does this work??

  • boxer made ally with the opponent when protoss came up the hill. since the protoss was his "ally", the mines didn't come up. however when some goons came up, he disabled the ally status, obliterating the goons with mines.

  • ah, ok thank you ;)

  • @SoNyuhGeneration Hah, genius!

  • Most innovative progamer ever, No doubt of that :D

  • Even the commentators knew boxer used the allied setting.

Sinec they commented "He will release the allied any moment now."

  • You've been commenting on loads of videos of boxer... i've seen,it didn't say it was boxer play you imbecile,it said i presume it was his move- boxer's allied mines

  • I don't think that should have been banned... if that guy wasn't carrying an observer, he deserves to be surprised. This is really no different from unburrowing a bunch of cracklings or something in the middle of a group of units. In fact you could do precisely this with infested terran, or in SC2, banelings.

  • Bullsh!t. This is banned for a reason, maybe not cuz its imba, but becuz its not ment to be used in game. If u create One on One u cant preform this kind of move, for example

  • 1. They always play custom.

    2. There are a damn ton of glitches that are allowed.

  • You guys, Wall, Ominou, Xenero, seem to be missing the point.

Boxer opened his Ally settings and flagged the opponent as an ally so his units would not auto-attack.

Then, when the dragoons were all nice and gathered around his mines, he unallied the opponent, and the mines activated.

This is now banned because the alliance settings are not a fair to use as a weapon against your opponent.

  • cool

  • cool

  • Was allowed then,not now.

  • Why now it is not?

  • Yes if you were to do that in any tournament you'd be disqualified, and most people just consider it unfair.

  • Boxer invented this. Got banned obviously, like his cc crush of interceptors, which was removed from the game. Just shows how innovative he was though.

  • @jjay75 can you send me the url or tell me what to search for the Boxers "cc crush of interceptors"

    Thanks

  • @jjay75

  • Yeah, there's no way that's allowed anymore. Not in pro games at least

  • thats not cheating, its called smart playing

  • that's not cheating but it's sure cheap. but terran players supposed to be tricky, that's what the blizzard ppl said.

  • its cheating anyway, call it exploit or BUG! Mines are supposed to attack the first target they see and ally option is not meant to be used. It was banned after this incident.

  • There are lots of "cheats" people use in pro starcraft, allied mines was just to powerful and had to be banned. turrets are supposed to attack flying units (unless webbed by corsairs). There is a legal bug where you can put a observer over a turret to make it stop firing. If a exploit or bug improves the gameplay, they keep it. This isnt meant to be towards you really, but everyone here who thinks that you shouldnt exploit or use bugs.

  • what boxer does is he allies the enemy (without shared vision) and attacks one zlot at a time with his vultures, then right when units get in the middle of them he unallies and blows the mother fucker up

  • wth.. I thought it was NOT permitted to use the "allied mines." when was this game played?

  • long time ago probably 2003ish I would guess

  • he still lost :p

  • wtf!! is that by constantly pressing "s" for stop on the mines?! while h'es controling other units?!!!! HOW THE HELL?!!

  • no...you ally the enemy

  • that is genius..

  • can you explain how that works?

  • Allying your enemy disables the activation of the spider mines

Once your enemy's units are stepping right on it

You unally which will activate the mines (in this case goons are to slow to react from the mines)

Then you get a blue gooey mess

  • you check the ally box with the enemy then use "A" to attack his units, so he wouldnt know, when his guys are all over the place you un-check the ally box.
