  • @guyverhoeven DUDE OF COURSE JUDAS PRIEST HAS BETTER VOCALS!

  • @irpoytress HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH FAILLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!

  • @irpoytress Way to understand, Dumnass

  • @irpoytress trolls gonna troll.

  • I started listening to Iced Earth with Barlow, actually, Dark Saga was the first ever Iced Earth song.

Because of this, when I heard the album Framing Armageddon I was initially taken back because it featured Owens. For a while I actually really disliked that album, until of course I listened to it on a 5 hour drive, then it all started to make sense.

Now I actually really enjoy both voices just as equally as much.

  • FA was a near perfect album. I prefer Barlow over Owens but FA is such a beast of an album, I wouldn't want it to be altered just like Glorious Burden!

  • I think any real musician or anyone who actually learned anything about music knows that music at this level is not a competition. If anything, you can say you prefer Barlow's singing to Owens and viceversa. But this is not a contest, people, it's art.

Would be good if you guys learned this and stopped with the stupid remarks such as "owens is superior when it comes to the high stuff". That is so absurd. Maybe if this was a music school dealing with a couple of amateurs.

    It isn't.

  • Personally i like Barlow better, but Owens pulled this shit off better on FA.

  • This sound is perfect w/ Barlow or Owens...Even w/ Stu block should be!

  • I think Owens' voice fit this song better than Barlow's. Not rippin on Barlow, it's just an opinion. I believe that Owens was their best vocalist, but I can't say that, cause I haven't heard their new one yet.

  • Barlow's voice, Owens' style of singing (notice how Barlow somehow lengthens the vowels, especially in the beginning).

Also, as most ppl are saying, Owens is much better for high pitched songs,

and Barlow for the dark ones (the kind of dark that ghouls live in)

  • I like this version better... I just like Barlow's voice much much more than Rippers, although Ripper is very very good, but Matt just kicks ass :D

  • Great song, I think that in this song and also in the clouding Barlow is better but in travel in Stygian Owens wins.

  • pfff if anyone dislikes Barlow, I strongly recommend that they listen to Slave of the Dark! especially the live in athens version

  • I STRONGLY think that Matt singer sounds like shit.. I know it's only opinion.. but wtf is that?

  • Barlow is thte best this proof!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • jeez my new favorite song :)

  • I personally like the song more if ripper sings it. Barlow is surely a good vocalist but I simply love Ripper^^

  • Barlow and Ripper both suck, it's Bill Cosby that really got this band going

  • @gearsofwolf

They both suck ??!? Are you fucking nuts ??! Those are two of the best metal vocalist currently.

Please go throw yourself in a fire and burn. You are unworthy to listening to either of them and can't see real talent for what it is.

  • @FakePlasticHead obviously its a joke because Bill Cosby isnt a singer. And why would i be on her eif i didnt like them?

  • Piper Ripper all the way

  • god didnt give 5 people the strength to lead

  • I personally prefer Owens' vocals for this song. But as for who's a better voice for the band... I know some fan have their preferences but in my opinion, both Barlow and Owens complete Iced Earth. Sure there are some individual songs that sound better sung by one or the other, but all in all, both are perfect singers for Iced Earth.

  • @xRockandMetalx finally someone who gets it.

  • honestly i like more the owen's voice ://

    but barlow is great too

  • Matt's definitely got the better baritone voice in my opinion, but when reaching soprano range, Owens owns it. I prefer baritone voices though, so I really like hearing singers like Matt and Russell Allen.

  • @Schemerhythm

    You are totally right ^^

Owens can sing higher but his range is far from Matt his range.

Matt can go from low to high where owens can only from high to very high...

Thats why i prefer Matt like you do.

  • i think matt is a bette singer than owen in my opinion, but this is a owen song

  • Barlow is a really good singer and all one of my favs but This is rippers song

  • okay I know how its done he took the audio from the live version that Matt did in 2008 and he muted the crowd

  • Mathew is the one, guys..

  • Did they re do this

  • I like Barlow and Owens evenly, all in all. Though quite honestly, I don't much like this song compared to Owens' version. Then again, I guess I also can't envision Owens doing a very good job on all the songs Barlow did (aside from the Coming Curse, that one he did do excellently, imo). I guess it's just a matter of what I'm used to from the original recordings, versus any re-recordings, with a tiny few exceptions.

  • I like tim more... what are the other albums with Tim?

  • @Rahavin1 there's "framing Armeggedon Part 1", which has this song on it, and there's "Glorious Burden", which is all about history: Attlila, Waterloo, Deceration Day, etc.

  • both time and matt are to of the most talented motherfuckers out why label whos better i like both versions

  • @matt1980 tim**

  • From a technical standpoint, it could be argued that Owens is a better singer, but I've always loved Barlow's ability to emote well. He sings with such overwhelming feeling (not to say Owens doesn;t have feeling). His voice resonates with me emotionally, especially in The Dark Saga.

  • i noticed some people build their judgment on how angry is the artist, neglecting or just not noticing the true identity and nature of each artist... they sound so funny and rediculously ignorant, not to mention unprofessional... but then most people today are like that, and this saddens me, exept it doesnt becoz i dont care, im just posting my opinion

  • rippers one is better:) i think? havent heard this song in a while? does ripper sing it as well? if he does its the better one, barlows not angry enough

  • I know this stuff is really getting old, but like every other son of a bitch out there on the web I too have an opinion that I am prepared to type into the little blue rectangle. Tim did the song WAYYYY better than Matt.

  • @ValoSGonzalez He was the original too but it sounds even better with both Matt and Tim.

  • why is it that matt's version gives me goosbumps and the other version doesnt? specialy the second verse "and now we muuust wipe the tears away..."

  • I got into the band after Barlow left so I really loved Owens but since then Ive come to putting Barlow one notch above, as for this song its Owens song I highly doubt the ripper can pull off lets say A question of heaven as well as Barlow because thats a Barlow style. I love both singers and I love Iced Earth one of my favorite bands \m/

  • Jon Schaffer has a new project called Sons of Liberty. Anyone who is an Iced Earth fan should check it out, it's awesome!!

  • Okay, I love Barlow, but I simply have to give the nod to Owens for this song, he sounded WAY better than Barlow did when singing this song, as he did with Ten Thousand Strong, Barlow is a great singer, but I feel he should stay away from any songs that were done with Owens at the helm.

  • I definatly prefer Matts voice to Tims, but that doesnt mean that Tim isn't a great singer. He is really one of the best in the world. It's too bad people talk shit about him.

  • Matt sounds like Paul stanley. And quite frankly what is metal about sounding like kiss. lmao

  • @metalhedchris Did you just compare Iced Earth to kiss? You obviously dont know what the fuck you are talking about so shut the fuck up.

  • Fuck I wish I knew what PA settings Matt B uses. I can totally hear where he starts overdubbing, but before that its either his epic voice or some well done reverb.

  • why do people argue voices its all a matter of opinion Iced Earth Iron Maiden Helloween I liked all there Vocalist people can get mad I think there fucking Great bands.

  • i liked both mat and tim's versions its a matter of taste not arguments.

  • matt is batter then tim over

  • TIm Owens Will never be as successful as Barlow nor will ever be as good look at barlow hes been in iced Earth for a very long time and did 1 pyramaze album look at owens his Band beyond fear 1 album and hasent done a thing with it since then and judas priest he was let go Cuz Rob Cam back so if anyone says Tim is better sorry hes not maybe in those high pitch screams which are annoying sometimes listen to the song dead meat by judas priest that song he show some heavy stuff

  • i think Barlow is better but i can understand People might find Owens better thats COMPLETELY based on opinion and there are no facts.

its like letting Priest fans discussing with Maiden fans who got the best vocalist.

  • @Guyverhoeven I like the Tim Owens version better because I think his vocals fit the songs better.

  • Actually ever hear travel in stygian with Matt singing it he can keep a constant high note through that whole song.

  • i think that Barlow is a very different singer than Owens. So the songs of the the one just cannot be singed by the other

  • I think Barlow is better at singing at low levels than Owens like at the start of this song, but when it comes to the high stuff owens is far superior, like in Ten Thousand Strong, Barlow could never sing that song as well as Ripper

  • Um have you heard the live performances of ten thousand strong, Barlow destroys Rippers performance. Also to Metalrain6, Jon writes the music for the music NOT for the singer. He writes it so it can be done with other vocalists, if needs be. I liek both singers myself, each brought their own sound... and all but the first are good. Greely was too weak. Barlow, however is my favourite all time singer

  • If you are talking about the Graspop performance yes I've heard it and I thought it was pretty poor, sorry. The song doesnt suit his voice at all and he really struggles with it (Ripper does when singing it live as well tho but not quite as much)

Both vocalist are amazing and overall I do prefer Barlow because the slower songs are my favorite like Watching Over Me and Meloncholy and he sounds absolutely amazing on them live and in the studio recordings

  • It was better than Ripper's version. He gave it what it was missing with Ripper, especially for a live performance. It suits his voice perfectly, especially these days now he's matured as a singer. His best song by far is a Question of heaven though

  • I agree bro,

Matt is an overall better singer that Tim.

    His range is amazing!

And ryte now he is my favorite metal vocalist as well,

Well its actually a tie with Bruce Dickinson

But I think Matt has a better voice than Bruce

But bruce has more character and personality in his vocals.

  • See I don't actually like Dickinsons voice that much. But I just prefer Matt to all other vocalists, though Lance King and Warrel Dane are close second for me

  • I Agree with you about what you said when it comes to Greely was too weak. HE could not sing all that good. I think it would be epic if they completley redid Stormrider with Matt. I'd like to hear him doing Mystical End, The Path I chose and To Curse The Sky which was originally sung by Gene Adams. I think that Barlow does a WAY better job than Greely and so does Ripper for that matter.

  • Barlow did the path i chose at alive in athens......near enough studio perfect, as iced earth are.

  • i agree. but nobody can emphasis emotion and agressiveness at the same time as much as barlow can.. that's why i LOVE barlow's voice over ripper in iced earth.. but i can't see barlow singing the ending for framing armageddon as ripper did.

  • @UnleashMoonlightFire, i think he just wanted to make it different than rippers', as his high pitched voice on horror show, like on dracula and Wolf, demonstrate that he is capable of doing it, and sounds great at the same time. I have listened to their entire collection, and Barlow can handle the highs just as well as the lows.

  • @UnleashMoonlightFire I agree, I heard Barlow doing Ten Thousand Strong live, and I'm sorry, it was a miss for me.

  • @UnleashMoonlightFire That's because Ripper and Barlow made songs their own. Ripper could never do Dracula like Barlow, and I don't believe Barlow could do High Water Mark as Ripper can. Both were awesome, but I prefer Barlow over all.

  • @UnleashMoonlightFire barlow has overall better range including vibatos at higher pitches

  • @UnleashMoonlightFire

    You are right.

But Ten Thousand Strong isn't a high stuff song.

The guitars doesn't play higher then normal

So when matt would have sing this song he would have done it a few tunes lower then Ripper

Now that Ripper started the song so high Matt tried to do the same

But when Matt do the vocals lower you will say:

That's not how it supposed to be

I think that when Ripper didn't sing that song it would be a great song with Matt on vocals

It's just how you like it

  • @UnleashMoonlightFire You should listen to Gettysburg 1863!

Chapter 3 (High Water Mark) especially near the ending o.o. There you will be definitely impressed !

But Barlow is unbeatable at the hellish themed albums and so on (dark low pitch hellish voice - I just say Dante's Inferno! I couldnt imagine any other vocalist on that song.)

  • @Fleshshredder They started doing it live with Stu Block :)

  • @Fleshshredder I actually prefer the Dante's Inferno sang by Stu :D

  • @UnleashMoonlightFire

    >Barlow could never sing that song as well as Ripper

You obviously never seen them live with Barlow. He did sing it and he sang it extremely well. Given, I hate the song personally, he raped that song. Sure, his face was red and he had to give it his all, but I think it sounded a lot better than Ownes (personally). You should hear Barlow sing Dracula and then listen to Ownes sing it (live). Ownes = I cringed. Barlow = I cried.

  • i think Barlow is the superior singer and works much better with IE than Ripper, but this song just sounds much better with Ripper, as was intended. Although, I like Barlow's Setian Massacre much more than Ripper's

  • tbh in my opinion i first heard ripper on the framing armageddon album fucking loved it then i heard matt barlow singing and think he's a class singer but tbh id rather have tim and i think matt has ruined the framing armageddon album as it suits tims voice much more better not putting matt down like since i think he's a good singer and all but somethings really should be left alone and rippers voice was perfect for the FR album i think

  • Ripper owens has done good for himself ya know it aint easy to step in as frontman in bands such as judas priest and iced earth he is truly an amazing artist. (all respect cast his way)

  • I strongly prefer Owens to Barlow. Barlow's voice certainly as unqiue as Rippers, but I think Ripper has am amazing chemistry with Iced Earth. Too bad.

  • Barlow's voice is darker. I like that. But, This sonf sounds better when Owens is at the vocals. :P

  • Is it possible... this song has emotion in it?!

Barlow can cut it where Tim can't even pass with a nuclear powered ice breaker!

  • Haha ye- Wait...what? XD

  • lol i don't get it either!...

  • it got cut off a little at the end. can you upload it fully?

  • Barlow is my favourite singer. And I think he takes the biscuit for this song. Owens is good, hell he wouldnt have been in The Almighty Judas Priest (Take a bow now) if he wasn't, BUT Barlow has tones that no other singer has, his stuff with Pyramaze is awesome too

  • i like this version more...matt is iced earth...i don't wanna say that ripper sucks, his performance in Ten thousand strong is amazing, but he is not barlow...u know what I'm trying to say...

  • the best vocal matt excelent

que via iced earth con matt barlow el mejor vocalista que puede haber en iced earth.

  • I preffer barlow on this but Tim def does setian massacre better

  • I think tim's version is better, but I think it's because the song was originally made for him. but I think matt could have done better than this too

  • schaffer did the same thing when ripper replaced barlow. its not that he doesnt have respect for their work, he just re-records to get people use to the new singer. he also did the same thing when Barlow replaced the singer before him.

  • Matt is simply better than Ripper!

  • I think they're both amazing singers, two of the best in the metal industry. I just think Barlow was better suited with IE. I'm glad Owens started up Beyond Fear and his solo album. He'll do good, making his own sound.

  • Stu Block has an amazing range, but not the varying tones that these 2 guys have.

  • I think owen's version is better. Matt is better in "The Clouding" and in the "Setian Massacre" but Tim owns this song.

  • Fine performance!!!! I saw Iced Earth a few months back, and they blew me away as always!! I like Ripper too, but I think Matt sounds better

  • matt blows tim away on this song

  • Probably the best song from Framing Armageddon. Much better with Barlow.

  • Seriousley? What was so funny about the Castlevania concept? I bet MAtt could really deliver a superb vocal preformance and make the Belmont story come to life. Or, if they did a Zelda one the Link story. I bet Jon would never go for that. LOL. What do you think?

  • Man that will suck! But, hey think of it like this if Crucible was originally going to be a Ripper album, just imagine what the next I.E album will be like! IT will be for MAtt all the way! Hey thanks for the friend invite. Only one thing, though before I add you, I am only adding users 18 and up to keep things safe. I just want to be safe is all. Hey I wonder wouldn't it be cool to meet Jon? That would be killer! Hey what would an I.E Castlevania concept album be like? Would it be any good?

  • I don't know. LOL. Hey I am psyched to hear the next ICed Earth album whenever they bring it out! Are you looking forward to it as well?

  • me emociono quando ouço essa musica... principalmente nessa versão.. com os vocais do Matt...

  • barlow kicks ass on this song !!!!!!!

  • Oh my god oh my god oh my god.

Right after a sucky monday on school im gonna see these guy's (again) with saxon!!

God it would rock if they play this song or i walk alone.

  • i think matt sounds better in this song but i also think ripper blaws matt away on 10 thousand strong

  • agreed

  • Yeah that makes sense. I think that whenever they make another Single they should maby have four tracks per version. An exlcusive for Ituens and one for the CD. I wonder which game console do you prefer PS3, Wii or Xbox 360? I have a PS3 and love it alot!

  • PS3 all the way!!! i switched from nintendo back in the dayz of the 64. Cuz nintenso tols Squaresoft to fuck off. so they took final fantsy to sony

  • I agree! IF they make it for PS3 and ONLY PS3, then they could go all balls out! I wonder do you have a PS3 and if so, do you go online? IF you do, I will add you but, only if your 18 or over. I am trying to keep my friends list on their all adults and no kids. Blame me?

  • I think they should have put this version on the CD version of the single as well as Itunes. That would have made the package a much sweeter deal in my book. I wonder why they choose to make it an Itunes only exclusive?

  • and now hes planning on re-recording framing Armageddon for a Boxset with Barlow doing the vocals on both this and the new album. (Which I cannot wait for). He's doing that because of continuity reasons (Plus I Might be the only one but I perfer matts version of this song over Tim's although tim is a great singer. Its just a personal preference I guess.

  • This my favorite song from the Framing Armageddon album. I love Matt Barlow and his singing and I'm glad he's back with the band. But just something just doesn't sound right, I like the Owen track better then Barlow's I don't know why but it's just missing something. It's still a great tune though.

  • You've forgotten the last few seconds :'(

Could you send me the whole Song from Matt?

  • I think Matt has a darker, more atmospheric voice. On the contrary, Tim´s voice and singing style is alot more electrifying and aggressive. Tracks such as Order of the Rose, and Framing Arm. are written for Tim, while Matt excels on the older material.

  • as much as I love Barlow's voice (and I *really* do, he's one of the best singers ever), this song was better sung by Tim Ripper Owens

  • Thanks for uploading this. I was upset that Jon didn't allow this version to be on the EP cd that I purchased.

Once again, thanks for this man. Such an amazing song and Matt has the best metal voice. I have Matt and Russell Allen as metal vocal immortals. \m/ \m/

  • damn if i had matts voice, i would sing-talk everything!!

  • WOW amazing job matt....i wish yu held the scream like ripper had

  • I agree

    Matt is a great singer

But he just doesn't have that same face-melting evil scream that Tim has.

  • Matt does have a face melting evil scream. Just listen to anything from Burnt Offerings, Dark Saga, Something Wicked, and Horror Show. He definitely has the evil scream.

  • Your right he does have a great scream himself

But its just not the same as Tim's

    Like

    Take The Clouding

    Theres a version of Matt's and Tim's

Halfway through when it goes to the heavy part Tim lets out this crazy scream/laugh thing. On Matt's version theres also a scream but its just not as powerful to me.

He's a great singer in his own right, but their voices are too different.
